My friend and I arrived at the Hotel at 5.30am on 10/9/2011.We should have arrived at 16.30pm the previous day. This was due to flight delays. We were so exhausted we went straight to bed.We got up at 11.30am to see our Rep and asked if we could have a lunch as we had missed dinner the night before and breakfast. The Rep asked the Hotel receptionist and was told catagorically NO by a lady who I believe was the owner. We found this very upsetting as we had not eaten since the previous afternoon and it would have cost them no extra as lunch was only a buffet. We found the majority of Hotel staff surly, inflexible and unfriendly. The only helpful person being the cleaning lady.
The food in the Hotel was generally good although a bit samey. The Hotel was in the middle of nowhere and to go out in the evening you had to take your life in your hands and walk 25mins down a dark lane to the seafront as the courtesy bus only ran twice a day the last time being 4pm in the afternoon. There was no entertainment at all in the Hotel. On leaving we were given a packed lunch consisting of a small roll filled with 1/4 slice luncheon meat and 1/4 slice processed cheese,a small pear, piece cake and water. It was disgusting. We would definately not go to this Hotel again although Crete in its self is a lovely Island.

Ideal for a relaxing Holiday
7 / 10
Aug 2010, sky50

My husband and myself have just returned from a weeks' all inclusive holiday at the Oceanis. We had never travelled to Greece before and we were not disappointed. The Oceanis is in a perfect location for a relaxing holiday. The Hotel is located on a hill top with sea views and surrounding area but not too far from Heronissos and its pretty beaches and nightlife. The hotel offers local and international cuisine and also caters for vegetarians.I found the restaurant staff very friendly and helpful in particular Stefan who also had a sense of humour.I would like to thank the lovely Georgia who worked behind the pool bar for always serving the customers with a smile and for being so helpful.
The Reception staff in particular the wonderful Tula made us feel extremely welcome and we appreciated any advice she gave us.
There was also Michele the night staff who spoke fluent Italian who also informed us of places to visit. He always made time to speak to us.
The cleaners came frequently and our apartment was always clean and fresh. The air conditioning was welcome although please note it is paid locally.
For those wanting evening entertainment then the Oceanis is not for you as there is no entertainment , however it was not missed as it was extremely pleasant to socialise in the evenings with other guests.
We came home relaxed and refreshed after a lovely holiday and will certainly be going back to the Oceanis for two weeks instead of one.

Rude Staff
3 / 10
Jul 2010, jaz+stu

My partner and I visited Oceanis Hotel last week for 7 days all inclusive, and as long as we stayed away from the hotel we had a lovely time.
Nearly all staff (except one receptionist on night shift), were rude and insulting and made it very clear that they would prefer not to have guests and that you wouldnt bother them. By the end of the week we were spending most of our time in Hersonissos just to stay away from their miserable faces! My partner and I used our manners from the minute we replied and were still asked to use our manners by one of the receptionists!
'All Inclusive' at this hotel unfortunately does not mean all food available throughout the day. Breakfast served 7.30-9.30, lunch 12.30-2.30 and dinner 7.30-9.30, outside of these times the only food available is a dry half a sandwich, or an icecream that you have to pay 3 euros for. I found the food fine and usually quite pleasant, lovely fresh salad and hot food too. Bread, brown and white available at every serving. My partner however found the food was too repetative and there was not enough choice, so we ate out a few nights and found some great places to eat on the sea front in Hersonissos. The water machine is stricly available to fill small cups, NO BOTTLES, or you will be asked to 'read the sign properly'. The pool bar is usually left un-attended so be ready to serve yourself. Drinks included in the 'All Inclusive' include Raki, Wine, Beer, Ouzo and soft drinks. NO VODKA, NO WHISKEY, and these are served (when staff can be bothered) untill 11pm, not a minute past. When we were refused a drink at 11pm we were told 'If you dont like it, dont come back'. During the day you will be given small soft plastic cups, and when asked for a normal glass the staff reply with ' Only if you bring it back '.
The room was basic and comfortable, however the smell of the drainage was a bit strong in the bathroom at times. Aircon wasnt available unless you payed 6 Euros a day, the fridge also needed paying for and a safety deposit box costed 10 euros for a week. There was a TV in our double room.
The only entertainment we stuck around for was 'Greek Night', which consisted of 3 dancers standing together and clapping their hands for an hour or so, but we didnt mind as we liked to go out into town.
A taxi to Hersonissos cost 8 Euros each way, but in the day there is a free hotel bus at 10am that brings you back at 12.45, there is also a second run later in the day.
One day there were two power cuts, one in the morning for around 3 hours and one in the evening, during which the water was also cut off for a few hours. When approaching the receptionist for an explaination she immediately became snappy and defensive and said there was nothing they could do so we should speak to our rep (which is fair enough, but our rep was also useless).
In conclusion, the area was beautiful, and when walking anywhere the scenery was fantastic. The staff were so rude, ignorant and generally dismissive of us, and actually all other English visitors we spoke to. My partner and I read bad reviews of Oceanis Hotel and staff after we had booked our holiday, and hoped they were not representative of the hotel anymore. Unfortunately this was not the case, and if we had not made the most of the area around us, our holiday would have been spoilt by the staff and the general lack of hospitality. It was definately not what we expected of all inclusive, and will definately go for a hotel with higher that 3 star rating as it will hopefully mean that 'All Inclusive' with ACTUALLY BE 'All Inclusive.
If you can avoid this hotel do, but Hersonissos is a lovely place to visit.

my friend linda and i booked this holiday hoping like everyone, to chill , relax and have a bit of fun.The hotel was nice clean and basic, but it was as if someone had picked it up and placed it on farmland away from everything else.In the brochure it said it was ten mins walk to the beach, no, more like 25mins down a dirt track. we felt out of it and trapped couldnt go anywhere at night unless taking a taxi which was eight euros each way. the hotel bar was pleasant enough but no entertainment at all and the food was awfull.

disappointing

Oct 2009, senior citizen

we read previous reviews after we had booked our holiday and were slightly dismayed but thought well it,'s too late now we'll form our own opinions.
the accommodation, namely the room is adequate. however the bed was like sleeping on a board, the shower was intended for 2 foot high people as there was no high fixing for it and flooded the bathroom every time it was used. the toilet seat slipped to one side every time you sat on it.The rooms are clean and the bed linen and towels are changed every other day.
We were half board and again the food is adequate, and if you enjoy salad you're well catered for. The choice is quite limited, but what there is , is well cooked. However the flies are disgusting and the dining room is full of them, you spend most of your time swotting them. There is a bar in the hotel but it was closed the whole week we were there and you have to use the pool side bar. We mainly used the taverna up the hill which is very pleasant, but a very steep walk!!
It is a good 20-30 minute walk down to the beach and the return journey is all uphill. The bus stop to pick up the local buses is a fifteen minute walk away in a different direction to the beach.
We did 2 excursions while we were there, The Landrover Adventure, which was 70 euros and worth every penny. It is an amazing day, the drivers are fantastic, and what you see of Crete is absolutely incredible. We also did The Unknown Crete excursion which cost 49 euros and was a waste of money. There were 3 stops each one 10 minutes from the previous. One of the stops was a vineyard and wine tasting. You got to taste 3 wines only. We also hired a quad bike for a day and that got us around all of the local roads and to a few different beaches.

  • Advice: nice harbour, plenty of good eating/drinking bars

Overall good hotel but the staff where completly helpless.

Stayed at this hotel for 1 week in september. The staff where completely helpless. If you asked for help they would always tell you to come back the next day. We went half board but upgraded each day to all inclusive which only cost 10 euros each each day. The food was only greek food. It was not international. The pool area and outdoor area was lovely. This hotel is not ideal if you are taking kids there is not much to do. The main town is about a hour walk from the hotel it cost 8 euros in a taxi. There is a free bus that goes from the hotel 2 times a day. We went to the water park it is a great day out the is a coach that picks you up from the hotel an takes you to the water park 29 euros each this includes your admission. takes about a hour. The hotel is clean. Just a few flies in the food area. Because we had night flights we booked to keep our room on for the extra day with a 20 euro charge we payed the 20 euros the day before. And on our last day ARIS wanted to speak to us because we couldnt keep the room on he moved us to a digusting room away from the hotel which was dirty the shower was freezing. There was a lizard in there when we walked in. We were distgusted on were we had been given a room. so we give the keys back 7 hours before we left the hotel. There was a lovely cafe about 5 min walk up a hill. the food was lovely there and the staff where really friendly they had a screen for football matches to. There was a supermarket next door to the cafe.
Overall i would go back to hersonasis just not to the same hotel. I would go go to the main town were it is more lively and more things to do. This hotel is ideal for a relaxing break if you dont want to go anywhere.
There is also a lot of polish dutch and french at the hotel.

  • Advice: Lively at the town for night life

POOR FOOD & LOCATION
3 / 10
Jul 2009, Hughes4607

I don't usually write reviews about hotels but having recently stayed at the Oceanis (July 2009) I felt I had to write a review so everyone knows what they are getting!
I stayed at the Oceanis from 30/6/09 until 14/7/09 on a half board basis.
Firstly the bad points:
1. A 30 minute walk to the nearest beach and up hill on the way back.
2. No choice of food and all very basic. Catered mostly for Germans but worst of all was the flies all over the food, hot and cold and nothing done by staff to improve this
horrible problem.
3. Cost of aircon (6 Euros per day) and cost of fridge (10 Euros per week). A bit excessive and when the night temperature is 30 degress + aircon is a must.
4. Mostly Germans and Polish stay at the hotel and catering is mostly for them. This includes food and drink.
5. Staff were Ok, I've had better but a smile helps!
Good points:
1. A free bus service to the local town, although the times weren't great and sometimes very crowded.
2. A clean and tidy hotel with towels and linen changed regularly.
Not quite Fawlty Towers but not far off. I certainly wouldn't go back but you pays your money and its up to you.

Stayed in crete for the first time...
7 / 10
Sep 2008, Mr C Anderson

Stayed in crete for the first time did not really know what too expect but from what my partner had to say i went with the flow,(she had been to the greek islands 47 times)so i had a good guide 'ha ha,well on arrival i was plesantly suprised it looked lovely and georgio was very helpful we dropped our bags off and hit the bar which is a lovely setting on a night we met alex nice lad friendly and emanuell who is a cracking bloke always smiling works his socks off as do they all .
our room for the first 4 nights was a family apartment'georgio stated that we might have too be moved as this was a family apartment'which was basic shower was stiff 'not used in a long time'but overall clean great view standard family room.
after 4 days we were moved into a main apartment in the hotel complex more up to date 'reason being they are updating the family apartments'.
the hotel offers internet, bus trip daily into hersonnasis, pooltables, table tennis, game machines, the food on general i thought was basic not a great choice and one area which has to be improved, basically salads, pork, chicken, pasta, fish, very basic we went all inclusive and to be honest i wish i had not, but for £300 for a week you can't grumble
on the drinks side, raki, ouso, beer, brandy were free up till 11pm.
there are local tavernas which are a short walk up the hill and towards the beach the people are so friendly and welcome you with open arms, the taverna up the hill was our choice 5 minute walk, internet for the kids play area and goofy the dog ha ha'oh and a few stray cats, the beach is about 15 minutes walk and is full of bars and restaurant's and you can walk into hersonnassis if you like which would take you about a hour but if the sun is shining who cares and it is on most days into the 90's.one other thing this is a quiet location if you want the night life it's a taxi which is 7-8 euro's which after a week all mounts up great relaxing holiday but until the food is sorted out i and my partner would not visit the o'ceanis again only on that basis tho.

Very happy with our holiday. It was listed as 3 star so that's what we expected and got - all very clean (towels even laid out beautifully), well prepared food with plenty of variety ( you don't have to eat everything every day!!) It was away from the noise of the big hotels with a lovely walk past the farmland to the coast and those who didn't want to walk seemed happy to order taxis. Yes, the taverna up the hill was lovely in the evening.
All the staff were really friendly and helpful ( it does help to smile at them, be pleasant and make an effort with a few words such as calemera and F. Harry. stow!)
In fact, the 2 of us got a beautiful apartment for 4 on the edge of the complex with a fabulous double balcony and sea view. It paid to smile at the man on the desk when we arrived in the middle of the night.
Thank you, guys.

The hotel is really bad! It's not a 4*hotel! It's an international hotel.I talked to some visitors from Germany, UK and they were disappointed as well. The rooms are horrible, the conditionier works just in special hours! You have to go and ask for a remote control for conditioner or tv!!!!
The rooms are dirty. They are cleaned every day, but I could see no difference whether it was cleaned or not...
There is little choice of food!!!!!!!
I could give 2* for this hotel only!
It is suited among farms, the sea has no beach! You have to go and look for it!
I do not recommend it to anybody!

I must admit that i had been prepared for the worst after reading some reviews here. But i had a great time! And so did my family. And so did everyone else who went there. Why? Because this is a lovely hotel with great people and fantastic service. It is rated a 3 star but i would say 3+. Very clean accomodation and really delicious food.We were under an all inclusive - an excellent choice since the restaurant buffet provided us everything. There is a beautiful pool bar where you feel relaxed and staff is very friendly. The hotel is not in the center of Hersonissos a little bit far from the center but only 5euro taxi service downtown. The property must have been renovated lately since almost everything is new nothing to do with the comments i read in various sites. I will go back for sure probably again this summer or September since i enjoyed every minute of it.

Stayed at Oceanis Hotel in July 2007...

Stayed at Oceanis Hotel in July 2007 and May 2008, we found the staff very friendly and the hotel very clean. It has been re-decorated and a lovely hotel in a rural setting. It does say in the brochure that it is in a rural part of Crete. The beach is a 15 minute walk and a nice quiet beach too. Do not believe the other bad write ups, they are not true. In July 2007 it was 45 degrees here and there were no bad smells and the toilets were cleaned every day and bed linen changed every other day.
