Fantastic hotel for the second time.
from chichkhan
The Chich Khan hotel is fantastic, lovely clean rooms (daily maid service), big clean swimming pool & fantastic service from all staff. This was our second stay in this hotel, we went last year in June & enjoyed it so much we booked again with another couple of friends for this year, just as we expected we had a fantastic time. The staff work round the clock to make sure your happy, the all inclusive option is brilliant, all drinks free including cocktails & a good variety of food. The animation team work their socks off to make sure theres plenty on offer for both adults & kids. The bar staff are excellent, they come round & collect your empty glasses straight away & ask if you'd like another drink... can't say enough good words about the staff. Brilliant hotel, lovely clean resort... loved it so much we're booking again for next year & we only got back this morning! Anyone who says a bad word about this hotel or the staff are obviously mad or are WAY too fussy!
Not quite up to expectations of a 4* hotel
from ChipsStone
Just back from a week at this hotel. We can't really grumble 'cos we had an enjoyable time here, but a week was enough. Really the Chich Khan was a 3* pretending to be 4*. Although the hotel was very clean, it was a little shabby and rough round the edges. Many of the facilities that had been advertised in the brochure were there but not available to us in early April. We had taken our teenager (15 & 17) son with us and they found that there wasn't enough for them to do especially in the evenings apart from bar football and a couple of pool tables minus some of the balls. All of the free sporting equipment was packed away from 5pm. Although the animation team were friendly and worked very hard, their shows in the evening were embarrassingly poor. The rest of the staff on the whole were quite friendly. The bedrooms were roomy, basic but clean and comfortable. The hotel was large and rambling and at first a little tricky to find your way about. Meals were just ok. Somehow you got the sense that they were working to a very tight budget. There was quite a good choice though so most times you could find something that suited. It was a bit 'canteen-ish' and at times a bit mad when everyone arrived at the same time. Apart from the men having to wear long trousers for the evening meal, the atmosphere was very relaxed and informal. With All Inclusive we got to have one A La Carte meal at any of the Iberostar hotels in Yasmine Hammamet. We went to the Averroes for and Italian – food was nice but only very small portion of each of about 12 dishes and long waits in between. Yasmine Hammamet is a purpose built tourist town with very little charm. The Marina will be nice whenever they get round to finishing all the building work. The beach (2 streets away) is potentially very nice with miles of white sand but for April looked tired and shabby. The New Medina and CarthageLand theme park are just a few minutes walk along the road. Wouldn't trust the rides at the theme park - safety isn't a strong point in Tunisia. The Medina is very nice but be prepared for the typical onslaught of hasslemongers! The weather was a bit mixed. Quite cool and breezy for first few days and then warmed up to 23 degrees but still with a coolish wind. Take something warm for those occasions. What made this holiday for us was the Thomas Cook Prime Time Courier, Brian. Though we don't quite fit the criteria for Prime Timers (ie; we're not 50 yet), we were invited to join Brian on his almost daily outings. With lots of local knowledge, he was a friendly source of information and facilitated a way of discovering both the Tunisian way of life and creating a more relaxed way of getting to know your fellow holidaymakers. There were a good number of excursions available through Thomas Cook, but were also available through local agents based at the hotel. Taxi's are pretty reasonable but ensure the meter is running or agree a fixed price before setting off. It cost about £2 - £2.50 into Hammamet old town. The transfer time from Monastir airport was about 1hr 20-30mins.

We are just back from a week staying in the Chich Khan and totally agreed with other people's comments regarding the hotel. The hotel is in an excellent location although at the beginning of April not much was open! Our room in the hotel was very comfortable, clean and spacious with a fantastic view over the pool area. I found the fridge and hairdryer provided in the room very useful. The pool area was clean and tidy and well maintained, There were ample sunbeds and no need to get up early to reserve with your towels! (but it was April!) Meals were great, there was a fantastic range of foods available and if you couldn't find something to suit then you must be extremely fussy. All the food was piping hot and the turnaround of fresh trays being brought out was excellent. The waiters were all very friendly and courteous and were always happy and singing while clearing the tables. Shopping - its bartering and if you don't feel comfortable with that then you won't enjoy the shopping. There is a potential to feel quite intimidated at times but usually a firm NO THANKS does work but I would not recommend any female going out and about alone. A few handy tips! 1. Don't exchange to much money at one time. You can only exchange 30% of it back when you leave the country and the exchange rate is not set so they can give you what they want! 2. If you go on a 1/2 board basis you can upgrade to all inclusive if you ask at reception. We paid 30 Dinars per day per person and it was well worth it. 3. There is a chap called Brian who works for Prime Time through the company Thomas Cook. He does fantastic walkabouts in various locations giving you handy hints and tips about the areas. The walks take about 1hr and there is no charge and we felt they were fantastic. He has a board up in the Reps area and he welcome's anybody for his walks not just the over 50's 4. There is a big duty free shop when you clear customs on your way back home. All the usual stuff available and they take English money as standard. 5. If you want to buy fags they do really good offers on the plane on the way out to Tunisia. We got 400 Regal Kingsize for £25.00 which was cheaper than the duty free at either end! If you want them buy on the way out as there is not much left on the return journey! I would recommend this hotel to anybody looking for a friendly, centrally located hotel with good service, good food and a very relaxed atmosphere.
Complete Relaxation
from caz2604
I went to the Chich Khan with my fiancee as a last minute get-away beofre our baby is due. For the purpose of relaxing this was the ideal destination. I had heard all the stories about people being pushy and it is true but a few stern no's and they would back off, I certainly wouldnt let it stop you going. There didnt seem alot to do in March as it is not there summer season but all I was interested in was realxing so we spent our days lazing around the hotel. The weather was pretty good, about 20 degrees most days. The hotel was great it was clean and the rooms were comfortable, the staff couldnt do enough for you and the food was fantastic, something different on the menu every day. I cant fault the hotel or staff at all, we were very well loked after. The odd Dinar (40p to us!) here and there was very welcomed and ensured priority service daily! The destination is not really my cup of tea but I am glad I went for the experience and everything is really cheap so take a spare case for shopping!! If you are looking for complete relaxation and maybe the odd night out or day trip then I would reccomend Tunisia and the Chich Khan.
great hotel to stay
from Mhairi-f
this was my first of three trips to tunisia in 2006 and was by far the nicest hotel. I would recommend this hotel to anyone going to Tunisia. I went with my 2 daughters 9 and 12 and had a fantastic time. The staff were helpful and courteous and certainly helped make the holiday one to remember, in fact we are going back in July 2007. The entertainment team worked very hard to make our holiday enjoyable, especially Kakao, Willy, Chico and Nino. These guys worked very long hours and were a pleasure to be around. Food was not bad and there was a lot to choose from. The bar staff were fantastic and I would recommend the Chich Khan cocktail. (YUMMY)The resort of Yasmine is gorgeous especially down by the Marina. We spent many a night in the café bars down there. Weather in July was hot and sunny so take plenty of high factor lotion especially for the kids. All in all I would definately recommend the Chich Khan.

I always go all inclusive for 2 weeks every year, and can say I know what you should get from a 3/4*. After booking Tunisia I heard more bad than good reviews, and was expecting 2 weeks of hell. We arrived at 3am, but the staff had sandwiches and bottles of water ready for our arrival. Excellent start. RECEPTION made you feel like you were bothering them but would still help you if poss. PORTERS and WAITERS and BAR STAFF excellent and loads of them. ENTERTAINMENT staff were excellent, not to pushy to get you to do the daily activities, though will always ask if you want to do it. I went with my mum and son (2) and thought the men would be sleazy, which they were for the first day or two, then they are nothing but nice when they get the message. They go out of there way to be friendly and make sure you enjoy you stay. The usual AI night activies, mini disco (my son wouldn't do it but I did) and then a show performed by the entertainment team, no tacky get the audience up stuff, really good shows i.e comedy, cabaret FOOD was FANTASTIC lots of variety, even the fussiest eater would be ok and best of all no repetition which you would normally expect over two weeks. No travellers stomache (which I get everywhere and expected to get in tunisia). Ice cream all day aswell. DRINKS no international alcohol, at all, even if you want to pay. BEACH the sand is like play sand the water is warm and shallow and you are guaranteed a lounger and umbreller and it is not to busy. RESORT is good for families and couples, but not young couples wanting to go out to lots of bars, as there is not any nightlife to speak of. I would 100% recommend this for a real relaxing holiday. For families you can go the medina to shop, eat, and just null around taking it easy. By the harbour there is bouncy castles, ball pits and hugh play area for the kids and so cheap 10p for 10mins when quiet they just lets the kids play on. I never normally do reveiws but I heard such bad things about Hammamet that I had to as it was such a great holiday.
Holiday Review

Holiday Review Hotel Iberostar, Chich Khan, Yasmine Hammamet, Tunisia We stayed as a family of four (2 adults, 2 children ages 6 &7) 2 weeks, all inclusive, traveling with tour operator Thomas cook and airlines First Choice. It took approximately over 1 hour and 30 minutes to travel from Monistar airport to the holiday resort. Once arrived at the hotel, the porter took the bags to the reception and is allocated room. You will have to give a small tip, 1 dinar (50p) . At the reception, you are greeted by one of the hotel receptionists, where they give you a small introduction of t the hotel, and coloured bands that you need to wear around your wrists. The plan of the hotel, can be quite confusing and several occasions we got a little lost finding simple areas of the hotel. There is no map provided, so you will have to try and find your way around the best you possibly can. The room we had provided came with no balcony, it was more or so open planned, and privacy was limited with the bedroom as this was shared with two other beds for children. The room is provided with toilet, mixer shower, bath and basin and a small welcome pack of toiletries. Each day, the hotel provided a maid service, where they replace towels, bedding and also on several occasions left pretty flowers on the bed along with making the bedding in the shape of a ruched style flower. My children had taken cuddly toys with them, and the maids would tuck them into bed, which was kind of cute. The maids were very friendly. They prefer if you leave the room whilst tidying up. The times of the maid service was in between 10am to 4pm. The hotel provides a safe for a small deposit near reception, where you can keep valuables in. This safe works on two keys, a master key which is kept at reception and a personal key of which you safe keep. You can also hire beach towels from the hotel for sun lounger and beach use, this is a deposit of 10 dinars per towel, and they will give you a card of which you then hand in at the animation box near the stage outside for your towels. The breakfast, dinner and evening meal is held in the same restaurant at different times of the day. Greeted by the animation team and waiters of the restaurant the buffet style consists of different ranges of foods each day of the week. For breakfast, a range of pancakes, croissants, scrambled egg, selection of fruit and cereals are offered. For dinner and evening meal there is a range from chips, potatoes, and beef in red wine sauce, chicken and meats like rabbit and squid. They offer an excellent range of salads, sauces and breads. There is also a great chance at individual times to catch up on food offerings at the snack bars and café at different intervals, servicing from pancakes, pizzas to simple sandwiches. The bars also offer a range of drinks from non-alcoholic favorites such as ‘pokemon’, to a cocktail mix full of alcoholic such as ‘Bronx’, often served with a slice of fruit. The hotel offers three pools, a large one besides the pool bar with volleyball net; they also hold morning and afternoon water-aerobics with ‘nemo’ the instructor. The baby pool besides the small play area of swings and climbing frame, it has also the kids club near, with ‘kimo’. The heated indoor pool, with toilets it leads into the fitness area and hotel hair and body salon. The hotel offers a great kids club with activities like crazy golf, swimming. Adults will have a great chance to sign up to activities to along with taking part in dancing with nemo and dj bibi, the fun doesn’t stop as the evening entertainment shows offer a kids disco, performance acts, karaoke, and tombola. All staff are very friendly, fun and very helpful. I would recommend this hotel to any family with children, as this hotel makes sure there is plenty to do, along with an excellent range of family trip excursions, and attractions along the main hotel street, covering the ice rink to and fun fair Park within in the medina. Near the hotel there is a supermarket for all your extra needs, police station and local pharmacy.
Brilliant Holiday
from Roseyann
We returned from Tunisia and the Chich Khan after two wonderful weeks in September We had done our research on the hotel before we arrived and had obviously checked the visitors reviews, some of which were less than flattering However on our arrival we were most pleasantly surprised. The staff were excellent ... from the maids and reception staff to the waiters and animation team who all worked very long hours but always had a smile on their faces The food was great, there is a good choice every day and my husband made a point of being near the pool about 4pm so he could enjoy the pancakes served in the pool bar Our room was very comfortable and the air conditioning was a must as the first week we were there it was very hot The hotel is in a good situation, not far from the beach, which far from having a problem with seaweed, we found very clean and the sea was ideal for children as it did not suddenly get deep but shelved gently. The noddy train (or wally trolley) as our rep Hannah called it ran right past the hotel into Hammamet every 30 mins for the very reasonable price of 5 dinar return per person The animation team led by Mourad worked tirelessly to encourage people to join in the sports events during the day. Willy managed to get me doing aqua aerobics every day which certainly helped to keep the extra pounds off after all the lovely food The children were well looked after by the lovely Olfa and the entertainment in the evening was very good, also run by the animation team. Thanks to Kakao, Willy, Nino (or Nina as we came to call him because of his love for dressing up in ladies clothes), Miko, Samuel, Bibi and Ali The walk along the promenade in the evening was a delight. If you walk to the marina there are cafes where you can sit with a coffee and watch the world and his family go by. This was our second trip to Tunisia and by far the best I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel or resort to anyone thinking about going to Tunisia. The people are friendly and if you speak a bit of French or German you will get on famously We are looking forward to returning sometime in the near future

Travelled in july 2006 party of 2 adults,2 16 yr olds and 2 12 yr olds. Read really bad reviews had thought about changing our hotel, but boy are we glad we never. Room was great Food great a little bit repetitive but was fine by me, a great selection especially for breakfast. Entertainment great all day and night especially kokawi? Pools great, did not venture to the beach though. The local medina was fine loads of junk to buy and you can use english money. Take bottles of english whisky as they will pay you about £40/50 a bottle. A taxi to hammemet is really cheap and lots of bars there. A 25 min taxi journey was £4.50. Really nice hotel/service/entertainment.
We stayed less than 24 hours!

I should say that I have tried to be objective in this review and the following is only based on our experience. We went to this Hotel on 3rd July 2006 which was about one week before the high season officially started. Firstly, it can't be denied that the staff at the Hotel were extremely friendly and went out of their way to try and help. I guess the reason we did not like it was that it was so far from our requirements. Having had two very hectic holidays and working hard to renovate a house we wanted to get away for a week of just "chilling out" in the sun at a nice Hotel. When we saw that the Chich Khan was a four star all inclusive it looked just the ticket. We booked independently via the Iberostar website. We communicated wit the Hotel by email before we arrived and they asked us what sort of room we would like. They also arranged a taxi to collect us from the airport (cost was 60.00 Euro) When we arrived it was extremely hot and the air conditioning did not appear to be working in the public areas, (reception etc) that the air conditioning only ran during certin hours! This meant it was hot and very stuffy and not that pleasant as a lot of people had been smoking in the area. We were allocated our room and were very pleasantly surprised to find we had been allocated a small suite. Pity that only one of the toilets worked but that was not so terrible as there were only two of us. We went down to the pool but could not find a decent sunbed, again, not too surprising as it was now after lunch. However, I was not happy to learn that if you did not get to the pool by 7am to put your towel out the likelyhood was that you would not get a sunbed at all! There were only a very limited amount of sunbeds with shade as well so we were starting to wonder........ The "All Inclusive" bit......... Make no mistake, this is not like the all inclusive you would get at a Sandals resort but then to be fair it is nowhere near the price either. Basically it just means full board plus some drinks, beer and local stuph plus soft drinks. The beer was ok and we are not massive drinkers so that was not too important. I did try one local soft drink but it was awful, they all seem to be based on cheap, very very sweet, syrup type drinks that are mixed with water. The "included" watersports are volleyball and the like. The only place that you get the fully included wtersports such as jetskis etc is with the Sandals resorts and they are all longhaul. Other offerings are standard sort of things you would expect in a continental hotel, pool tables etc. The food, well that was what made us decide to move, it was awful. We went in to dinner about 8 oclock and I can only compare it to a cross between an Asda type cafe (on a good day) and a school canteen. It was noisy, lots of cuttlery being banged around and most of the food seemed to be gone, what was left was dry and unappetising. There was a smell that you would associate with a school canteen, not sure what it was but smelt like boiled cabbage. There also seemed to be rather a lot of burgers, pizzas and chips. The "Entertainment" The team there really do try hard but I am afraid they seem to miss out somewhere along the line, I honestly dont think even Butlins would employ them but 11 out of 10 for effort. We watched them with a rendition of "Grease" well that was the music, trouble was they coudn't dance and they couldn't sing or lip synch either so we were really wondering what it was they were trying to do.From talking to other people there tho I think they are great for kids. We spent one nite trying to sleep in a part time airconditioned room, not nice. The next morning we went down early for breakfast as by then we had learned that if you go early there is more chance of something to eat. The whole thing was not much better, poor quality food, lots of flies etc etc. Watch out for the "fruit juice" it is a sickly sweet cordial with water, not real juice at all. With no chance of a sunbed as it was after 7.30am we went a few hundred yards down the road to another Iberostar Hotel, the five star Solaria..........and that is a different story altogether! To summarise: If you are looking for a high quality, maybe a little luxurious, Hotel with good food and ameneties this is not the place for you. The Chich Khan would be more on a par with a 3 star Hotel in most other countries. Apparently this is the same all thru Tunisia. If you would normally go 4 star then book 5 star. However, if the slightly "butlins" type atmosphere does not bother you and you like lots of noise and dont mind too much about the food then it is great value for money. The staff are very very nice if somewhat overworked, the pool is nice but overcrowded. The rooms are good. The beach area is very good. Any seaweed that does come up is cleared overnite with JCB's (this is only in season tho, the rest of the time it is just left there) The hotel were quite concerned that we were moving even though it was to another of their Hotels, I am sure if they could have done anything to change our minds they would have, so, if you need a room change or whatever, do not be afraid to ask!
just got back from a two week xmas break at this hotel and can honestly say it was the worst hotel we have ever stayed in over 35 years of travel.the gala dinners on xmas and new years eve were a joke....the food was awful the whole place needs a good cleaning and scrubbing... more
