The Pythos apartments are set in one of the most beautiful areas of Cephalonia. Although fairly near the airport the occasional aircraft noise did not I feel distract from the overall tranquility. I think it would have been a great advantage to travellers if they had been provided on arrival with a map of the area showing beaches, tavernas, mini markets, bus stops etc. Personally I found that the accommodation was clean, but the food available at the pool bar was limited and really expensive (not mamas home cooking by any stretch of the imagination). I did not find the people running the complex to be very friendly or accommodating but my grandson and I very much enjoyed the company of our fellow visitors to Cephalonia - thanks hope will meet up again none day.

The resort is divided into old and new apartments and this was not specified into any brochure when we booked with Kosmar. We stayed with my husband at the old apartments and we were shocked to enter the room and find that there were NO WINDOWS!!! The icing on the cake was that there was NO AIR-CONDITION! July being one of the hottest months in Greece we were roasting in our sleep. I am originally Greek and haven't seen anything like it!!! Wouldn't go there again.

A very quiet area and as others have said, a degree of walking is required to get anywhere. Not a problem for us, but something you need to be aware of.
Maria and her family will do anything for you, but be aware that their grasp of English is not strong and as a result they do not interact with the guests. My children (13, twins) could have done with a pool table, but the short walk to the nearby Astra Village satisfied that need.
You will need a car as the best restaurants (of which there are so many) lie outside the village itself.
Kefalonia is fantastic, you must go and Pythos is a good base but the catering facilities are very basic with no kettle, toaster or proper cooker. That said if you want a quiet base (as we did) then you will be hard pushed to find anything better.

Pythos is heaven, it is peaceful but if you want to get around the island you do need a car.
There are a few tavernas scattered around Svoronata. Pythos serve good food all day so if you want a relaxing holiday Pythos is the place to stay. My wife and I have been to Pythos eight times and are going back again in July 2006.
The pool is cleaned every morning and all the surrounding areas washed down the staff are all very helpful as well I am sure anyone who stays here will want to go back again.

Myself and my 8 year old son were made to feel very welcome and we enjoyed our stay at Pythos.
However I would not recommend to anyone who dislikes walking as we found we were a bit secluded and spent our euros on taxis into nearby Lassi and Argostoli. But car hire is available at affordable prices. I recommend to anyone who wants peace and quiet and to indulge in the Greek way of life. It's just a shame we have had to return to our hectic way of living in the UK.
Going back in September. P.S, Self catering facilities are basic but apartments are spotless and safe. Owners cannot do enough for you.

Excellent apartments for peace & quiet place is kept spotless at all times, Drink and foods are reasonable and the staff are very friendly. Apartments are basic but comfortable, the only problem being a hand held shower.
The island itself is very expensive and I would not recommend it for disabled or people who have difficulty walking.
Travelled with Kosmar who changed our flight times 3 times before departure and we had to go to the airport 4 hours before our flight home with a 2 year old this was not an easy 4 hours in such a small airport.

The location of the Pythos is peaceful and remote - the setting really lovely. However, the lack of a good holiday rep was much felt by many of the guests. As the apartments are so remote it would be really helpful to be informed as to where the nearest tavernas, shops, beaches etc are. There was no welcome meeting and most guests relied on being advised by departing guests. The owners were quite pleasant as long as you had no complaints or requests otherwise their knowledge of english suddenly detioriated! The rooms were basic but very clean. No kettle or much crockery etc. The pool bar was very expensive and the food menu very boring and not greek! Except for the greek salad. Having said this we made the most of our holiday, fellow guests were really friendly and the setting is gorgeous - just a little extra effort from the owners and perhaps a little more friendliness would definately go a long way.
