Good hotel, shame about the weather!
from Lcsunny
Myself and my partner and my family, 8 of us in total ranging in age from 13 to 49, stayed at this hotel for a week over New Years Eve. We had a really good week apart from the awful weather. We only had one good day out of 7 and apart from that it was cold and raining. According to the locals that is normal in Tunisia in Dec / Jan so people thinking they are going on a winter sun holiday be warned that is not what you will get! We couldn't complain about the hotel though. It is a little dated but was kept very clean in the hotel and around the grounds. All the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpfull and we were totally looked after for the whole week. Small tips to the waiters along the way make a huge difference! The New Years Eve gala was a 7 course sit down meal and it was excellent and there was entertainment throughout the night. Yes the entertainment isn't great but they try hard and if you get into and just try and see the funny side you actually have a laugh with it! The indoor pool isn't a great size but we did avail of the onsite massage, beauty salon, and hairdressers which were great and very good value. For the men as well they could go next door the the 5 star hotel to watch the premier league matches which was great. We went to the nightclub on site once on New Years Eve. It is a nice club but the drinks at the bar are expensive. The food did get a bit repetitive near the end of the week but there was plenty of it and a good selection, more if you were willing to be a bit adventerous! But lots of salads and bread and chips and chicken and fish and desserts etc so no shortage of food. The wine was decent enough and the vodkas in the bar were a healthy size to say the least! The beer was ok as well and then there were plenty of minerals and tea and coffee and hot chocolate. The food laid out for snack late in the afternoon was handy as well with a good range of cakes and crossaints on offer. The hotel is about 25 minutes walk or 5 minute taxi ride (taxis are very cheap) down to the Port which is lovely but yes the shop keepers can get a bit annoying trying to get you to buy stuff. Over all though all the local people we meet were very friendly. I would recommend this hotel but really only in summer time as it is not warm enough for a winter sun holiday and on the rainy days there was very little to do. We did get some sun on our last day and went horse riding on the beach which was a lovely end to our holiday.
Christmas in Tunisia
from Cazshie
I too was surprised by some of the negative reviews of this hotel. Yes there were one or two problems, I agree it is more 3 star than 4 star and yes activities are limited out of season .. however .. the hotel itself is kept clean, the staff are very friendly and for a cost effective all inclusive package I was reasonably impressed. I went with my partner and her son (18) and our two kids (aged 2 and 5) so a reasonable selection of ages. It was over Christmas so most of the summer activities were closed which, to be fair, was expected. I do agree that the evening entertainment was pretty poor for adults but the kids seemed to enjoy it. The other downside of the entertainment lounge, as a non-smoker, was the lack of ventilation which resulted in a very smokey atmosphere and not ideal for kids. Maybe we've just been spoilt in Scotland with 2 years of smoke free pubs and clubs but even with half the lounge designated as non-smoking it didn't make much difference. The on-site nightclub was quite well laid out and I suspect would be quite busy in the summer season. Food I thought was quite resonable. Not fantastic but more than enough choice to suit most tastes. I'll admit there wasn't a great deal of change to the daily menus but there was a nice selection of salads and meat dishes with plenty of cakes and fruits for desert. Waiters I found to be friendly and helpful and kept your glasses full during the meal. All-inclusive means a limited selection in drinks though with wine, beer, cola or water being the main options. They did not have a problem with you taking away any unfinished bottles to the room. In the bar it is pretty much the same selection with a vodka thrown into the equation. As mentioned before though, what do you expect for a budget all-inclusive price? Plenty of tea and coffee available in the restaurant and bar (hot chocolate if requested) but no tea/coffee facilities in the room. You could take drinks from the bar to your room though and they had no problem with me requesting a tray in the restaurant to take coffee and a plate of croisants and pancakes up to the room for the family at breakfast time. After initially being given a room that was too small for our needs a word at reception had us moved straight to a much larger room with a nice balcony and a sea-view. No arguing, no extra costs, we simply said we needed bigger and we were given it. The bedding and towels were changed every day and the chambermaids (are they still called that these days?) were always friendly and helpful. The indoor pool isn't the biggest, but my guess is that everyone is at the outdoor one when the weather is better and the hotel busier. Some very good beauty therapies on-site for the women, which the better half enjoyed (the men could give the full body massage a try) and they are a fraction of the cost you'd pay back home. Location wise it was pretty close to the marina at Port El Kantoui which is a nice place to visit and reasonably hassle free for a wander round the shops. All in all I was happy with the room, happy with the food on offer, happy with friendly staff and happy with the location. On site entertainment was my only real gripe but there is nothing stopping those without young families getting out and trying off-site entertainment venues. Oh, and before I forget, make sure you do the camel ride advertised at the beach side of the hotel.
3-5 Experience
from foxeeylady
The hotel itself is lovely, our room was spot on, and we had a power shower. The grounds where kept clean and tidy. The downside was the food, it was so boring after 2 days of the same stuff, it is very bland and boring, so we went into the Port alot and eat in the irish pub which do lovely food. The entertainment was awful, it was so stupid and boring, also the nightclub will only open if enough people go in, and the bar closes at midnight. And the one biggest thing that ruined the holiday was the mythering filthy men that begged and touched you to buy crap from their shops, I nearly knocked one out, and always be on your gurard with your money and handbags. The hotel staff are very helpful, and if you give them a little tip each time they do something they will be your bext mate forever. I would advise you to take cough medicine, head ache tables and a inhaler, as I got the flu and was bedridden for 2 days, and most people in the hotel had some kind of bug.
Lovely holiday

We are just back from a week in this hotel and we had a great time. The rooms were a little old fashioned but very clean with everything you may need. The staff were very pleasant and the location good. I was pleasantly surprised with the food, there was plenty and a really good variety. The children loved it and it we thought it was really good value for money. We hope to go back next year.
Fantastic
from Ishalious
We have just returned from 1 weeks hols at this hotel, I must say after reading some reviews on here I was abit scared to go to this hotel. It was fantastic, the people, the hotel, the staff and services received. I don't know what some people expect for a 4star, all-inclusive hotel for gbp350, but I expected a lot less as for that momey are they expecting "The Sandals resort" or something. It was great and I would go again for sure.. People that have a good holiday, very rarly write reviews, you only tend to write about the bad things. I wanted to write this review to give the hotel some justice. Wicked time. Do go to find out for yourself, great for children as well.
hated the place
from dustNottingham
We have just returned from this hotel and can only say it was the holiday from hell to us. Everything seemed great on arrival, the reception staff were good the hotel was clean, the rooms basic but you only want a place to rest your head anyway but htey were clean, bathroom was lovely, but then we encountered the rest of the staff, the bar staff would take your order then disappear on one occasion it took 35 mins to come with one beer and we hadnt even ordered the 2nd drink, they would take orders off others around us and would serve straight away, we then went into the restaurant, cant fault the staff there they were really nice but the food was very basic and the same each evening, but they had no crockery, cutlery or glasses, one evening we even shared between 2 of us a plate for our evening meal and also ate a meal out of a bowl, we went without drinks during as they had no glasses and also food would be cold whilst you waited for cutlery. Wethen encountered the towel service it was 5 denas deposit for the towel which would be replaced each day, but we were only able to get these 2 and never got them changed again for the week, but this was also the case for the room towels then on going to the pool you were charged for using the sunbeds. We just got to the stage of eating out although we were booked for all inclusive as it was far less hassle.
just enjoy

An average hotel for the money you pay. Recently i went in SAADiA HOTEL SKANES this was terrible. Making the SOL amazing. The hotel is on the beach and plenty to eat and drink. Rooms basis but clean. Nothing to worry about booking this hotel you will enjoy. Entertainment was awful but a laugh. Just go have fun, beleive me i have found there is much much worse.
Great value for money

Stayed here for 1 week and had an idea what to expect from previous reviews. Ok so the food is standard buffet style but there was always plenty of choice and the waiters were extremely friendly and helpful, especially at breakfast. If you choose to eat when the restaurant first opens, then expect it to be busy, but the queues can be avoided by waiting half an hour - easy! We found the evening entertainment a bit disappointing but the staff try really hard to mix it up a bit and the kids really enjoyed their mini-disco every night. We spent the days on the beach which is fantastic. Get your towels down early (before 8am) if you want a decent spot - if you can't beat em...join em! Daily room service excellent, plenty of bath towels and the maid did a great job. Of course, tipping a dinar here and there always helps and the hotel staff really appreciate it. Remember 1 dinar is just 40p to us...but the equivalent of much much more to them. Overall - highly recommend this hotel and will stay here again.
Good family holiday on the beach
from HappyHolidaysDorset
Stayed here for a week in July, with our two children, 8 and 11 who had a great time. No the hotel is not 4 star but for the money it was worth it. Paid £1300 AI through just sunshine. We wanted a week of R & R and thats what we got. The kids were happy staying in the pool all day and did not want to join in the kids club. We were a little confused about how things ran at the hotel as there was no information anywhere, but having read trip advisor I was aware of this. As the breakfasts are not up to much, save yourself for lunch by the beach which consists of gorgeous freshly made pizza and bagettes and as much as you want. We all loved this. By late afternoon we would then go for drinks and snack in the restaurant by the pool, the food was self service but the drinks waiter service which meant that you didn't have to que for beer/wine. Evening meal was self service buffet, a little bit of a bun fight on the first night. We were asked to eat at 8.00pm but they were happy for you to go in earlier, by going in at 7.45 you avoided the crowds. Ample offers of beer and wine to go with the meal, our glass never empty. Overall we had a good holiday, yes bits of the hotel could do with updating, some of the staff could smile (reception/bar), but the hotel was clean, entertainment staff tried hard and the kids enjoyed watching, location great and beach clean, 5 mins walk to couple of large shops and 2 min taxi ride to the Port with its many shops. If the price was right would go back again.
very disappointed
from arnieb
Traveled with my husband, 5yr old and 7yr old. Very very disappointed not even a 3*hotel Air-conditioning ineffective, the temp reached 45.7 with wind from the Sahara and no respite, rooms not cleaned only the beds were made up. There were Ants in the beds and carpet,at night there were geckos on walls and ceilings. Food buffet type lots of queuing for sub standard food. Bottled water only after 2pm?? Otherwise more queuing. Pool not clean lots of scungy stuff around edges and a sea with jelly fish. However most of the Staff were friendly. So so glad to be home but disappointed that our quite expensive annual holiday was a let down by such issues.
