Waka Gangga Hotel

We stayed for 3 nights at the Waka Gangga resort in the middle of anywhere as our driver put it. This was absolutely true, we were in the middle of the ricefields, overlooking the rough waves of the ocean. The hotel is aboslutely amazing, location is perfect for a relaxing hide-away. The restaurant is good, beautiful pool which is nearly on the beach, you have a great view of the sunset from everywhere, villas are really nice designed and we loved the garden shower and the huge bath tub. Ten individual bungalows surrounded by small rice paddies and water gardens, a small swimming pool and a spectacular restaurant on a raised structure overlooking the sea. The rooms are well furnished with spacious walled in open air bathrooms. The staff were extremely helpful and unlike a previous reviewer we had no problems getting the horse ride on the beach and the massage included in our package. My husband and I stayed at Waka Gangga in Nov 2006 for our second honeymoon, and were very disappointed. The place has an ideal setting, and the rooms were designed with taste, but the staff and service were what made the experience disagreeable for us. I went to Waka Gangga's website directly, but was directed to a travel agent called ABL to book the special "honeymoon package" that was being advertised. In Yeh Gangga, a seaside village whose name is literally translated as the "River Ganges", Waka Gangga is one of a kind, and spectacularly so. The beach here is memorable--black sand and tympanic waves aren't for everyone, and this is not a shoreline for swimming--and the resort's bungalows are flanked on the north by gorgeous working ricefields. We visited in May 2006 and were the only people there. We thought it was a delightful quiet retreat and ideal first stop after a long plane journey. The room was superb, tasteful in beautiful woods and canopied bed and a superb large garden bathroom - the best we saw on our trip. The views from the room which has large picture windows, were great - rice fields and sea to the front, rice fields and mountains to the side. There are lilly ponds around the "resort" too. We booked ourselves in for the first three nights of our holiday in Bali, and loved it. After a 40min drive from Denpasar airport, the place is so secluded that most taxidrivers don't know it, but its well worth the wait. Impeccable service, great value and brilliant after a long flight from the UK. Huge rooms, with windows on three sides, and a great design - you could not see any other rooms from ours, just endless paddy fields to the back on stepped terraces (like in Ubud) and the crashing waves to the front.
