Rydges Amora Beach Resort Hotel

we were booked for 10 nights in august here, building work, dirty pool, ghost town!!, noisy and stagnant airconditioning, smelly towels just yuk, desperately phoned our travel agent and got moved to the kata thani resort in kata noi absolute heaven. one thing about the amora the staff were pleasant but they didn't seem suprised when after only 2 hours we checked out. sorry but the hotel is awful.

We were disappointed at our stay at Amora resort for a number of reasons. The low point of our stay was when the power went out for many hours. When we asked why some rooms appeared to have power and some didn't, we were dealt with rudely by reception staff and made to feel as if we were telling lies. Unfortunately there is also very little to do around the resort and anything requires travel, with expensive taxi rides into the main town charing 200 Baht, one way, to go about 1.5 kilometres to the nearest place where there is... more

This hotel was adequate, but not amazing. The two pool areas are nice, though the bar at one pool was closed indefinitely when we were there. Very short walk to excellent beach. Get up early if you want to stake out a chair. Great massagers in the woods between hotel and beach. Two things really bothered us about this hotel: the beds were like sleeping on concrete (we woke up with sore backs each morning!), and the meals were rubbish (and breakfast not even included). We stayed at the Amora Beach resort for 3 weeks and loved every minute of it. Bang Tao Beach is the best beach on Phuket....clean, quiet and has all the amenites you could want unless you really want the craziness and stupidity of Patong.... they do have a shuttle going there 4 times a day. This hotel had almost all Europeans....French, Austrians, Germans,Brits, Russians and us (a Canadian and Mongol) ...No Americans or Aussies!! In a country where everything seems to be a great value this hotel was no exception. I stayed here for 3 nights and the total with tax for all 3 nights was only 180 US. I couldnt even get a super 8 for that in America. After leaving though I did have some mixxed feelings on this hotel... Pros.. Great location on a wonderful beach. Price was very low . My husband and I went their in this May. We cannot believe the beach is just the backyard of our hotel! Just 5 min's walking there we could relax on our own beach. Also they have so many free facilities such as the windsurfing boat :) In the small forest to the beach there are some really nicely massagers who really gave us a good time. I find it amazing that one reviewer rates this hotel so lowly based solely on the food and service. I find it even more amazing that people travel half way around the world to live and eat in a hotel. I pray you don't get put off by such negativity. This is a superb hotel, an oasis of calm where one can walk into reception and walk straight out the other side and onto one of the finest beaches anywhere. My husband and I have been at the Rydges Beach Resort in december 2003. The Bang Tao Beach is one of the most beautiful beaches on Phuket. It's quiet and the the beach is about 8 km long. Unfortunaly the breakfast buffets is bad and so was the service. The cheese and the salami wasn' cold enough. If you are coming at 9.00 a.m. for breakfast the cheese is melt away and the the salami smells like cheese since those two things were together on a plate. The hotel is on lovely grounds. The rooms are big and spacious. The beach is lovely. If you are looking for someplace quiet - this is it. You will hear only the birds and the waves - no cars. However, for some un-understandable reason the hotel is against air conditioning in its public areas. This means that when you have breakfast, sitting outside is the cooler option and drinking tea or coffee is for those who realize they will probably have to shower after breakfast!!! We found this hotel by chance in 2001. It was just the place we wanted and we spent a fantastic 10 days there. On Sunday 17th October we are going again for 8 days and we are getting the same room as before. This hotel is further north than the "action" area of Patong and Karon but having seen what goes on in those places, we really are glad to be away from it. If you want a lot of night-life this is not the place for you but if you want a luxury hotel with great facilities and a fantastic beach, you and your partner will love it.<br... more
