We stayed here in October 2002, I know this is a long time ago and things can change a lot in those years but we really enjoyed our stay. Staff are really friendly and most speak fairly good English.
Tried my first Sushi in the Japanese retaurant, and Lobster in the fish restaurant. There are various restaurants to use in the hotel and they vary in price but considering we stayed for two weeks, our full food and drinks bill for the time was around £400. Not bad considering what we ate!
Thailand was the first place I'd ever been where you wake up to find condensation on the outside of your patio doors!!
The hotel is close to Patong if you want the buzz of town or you are missing MacDonald's etc.
Tuk Tuk's are really cheap taxis to get you around and they are a bit of fun.
My advice is take a nearly empty suitcase with you for all the stuff you end up buying. I had a Chinese Silk Suit made to measure in 2 days for around £40.
