Excellent stay in Dusit Laguna
from NealLosAngeles
We stayed a week in this hotel and really enjoyed it. There is some construction going on in one wing of the hotel. There are a few different buildings and we hardly heard the noise as we were in one of those other buildings. If you want to book a tour or trip/tour like a speedboat trip to Phi Phi island, you can get a much better deal haggling with the local folks on the sea front than purchasing in the hotel reception. The quality is the same. We reserved two ajoining rooms for our kids which the staff could not arrange when we arrived, so they upgraded us to a large suite which was wonderful overlooking the sea. The staff were very helpful & friendly.
Nice place but ongoing contruction

This could have been an excellent experience. The staff were friendly, the restaurant food was good and it is a generally nice place to stay. We checked in, they did not have our reservations, but we had our confirmation. They had no rooms so we were upgraded to a suite. How bad can that be? The room was great. Plenty of space, two balconies and a great view of the sea. We were thrilled. There was only one small problem. We were unpleasantly surprised by the surround sound construction going on in front of, behind and below the room. The commentor below can now be happy that the rooms are being renovated. We had a great stay until 10am in the morning and after 5pm. From 10-5 the noise was incredibly loud and the pounding caused the building to shake. Plants and light fixtures in the room were shaking and there was no way we could stay in the room during this time. It took no time for our headaches to occur. We had been told the hotel was full so there was no way we could change rooms. So we wandered around the resort and waited until it was safe to go back. The construction is likely to continue for a while. I saw a brochure on buying a villa at Laguna Beach. It looks like the new villas are adjacent to the Dusit Laguna rooms. If you are planning to stay here, I recommend asking up front about the construction/renovation status.
Dusit is the best
from A TripAdvisor Member
I absolutely loved the Dusit Laguna, and everything surpassed my expectations - the hospitality, breakfast buffet, pool, and my room near the Horizon Lounge. Our view off the balcony was unbeatable! Sometimes some rowdy kids ran by and woke us up, but other than that it was perfect!
Absolutely Beautiful
from CowsRule
We have just returned from our holiday to Phuket and what an amazing place. The people, places to see and places to stay are all of a top class. We stayed at the Dusit Laguna and it was simply breath taking. By far the best place we've stayed yet. It's in the Laguna district which comprises of 5 hotels all seperated around ajoining lagoons. The Dusit was the best place to stay for us we were all looking for a beach get away where we could just relax away from the busy shopping atmosphere. It took about 1/2 an hour for us to get to Patong by a van. The hotel pool is beautiful although the hotel only has one pool and some other hotels have 2 or more, it is massive and not over crowded. There are a couple of shops on sight as well as a tailor and just a few minutes walk up the road or 30 second trip by the complimentry bus is canal village which is great. The resurants at the Dusit are top class and the Italian was our favourite it was just lovely. We went out most nights therefore we didn't get the chance to eat at the other hotels however when we go back next year we will be trying them out to. The rooms are really big and the bathrooms are huge to. They use all the best fittings and the house keeping people do a wonderful job. We stayed in a Ocean view deluxe room as all the Ocean front ones were booked out. However now we've stayed in the Ocean view one's thats where we'd stay again. They are close to the pool and most other amenities. So all in all the Dusit was a great resort and i couldn't recommend it enough nor could i fault anything. We will be back same time next year as this is when it's low season and things are cheap and quiet.
Wonderful rest

We stayed for eight nights at the Dusit and were delighted with the choice of this hotel at the Laguna. It exudes an understated charm and provides a tranquil setting for a peaceful holiday. The lobby is an open colonial style overlooking lush gardens and whilst the rooms could do with a little refurbishment, the traditional style provides comfort and elegance. There was a good choice of breakfast items and we found the food in the Italian trattoria outstanding. Spa treatments are excellent if pricey and there is a range of treatments available in the open-air too. The beach is like paradise but the waves at this time make it impossible to swim. The shuttle boat takes guests to the other resorts but as it can be a little slow, walk to them instead. The canal village has shops and supermarkets with good prices. As for the Sheraton, althouogh the pool is good, this hotel has a "chain" feeling and would be extremely uncomfortable during high season. The Banyan Tree looks wonderfully inviting but SO remote and tranquil...... Some cavills: the reception staff could be better (other hotel employees however are exemplary), the tolietries need re-thinking as does the timing of the shuttle boat. Do not come here if you want night-life as it is some way from local bars and restaurants but as a resort for relaxing and unwinding, it could not be bettered.
Major disappointment, need renovation ASAP.

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel in may 2006. We made the reservation through the dusit webpage, they had, what we thought at the time, a good price including half board. But what they did not informed about at the time of reservation was that the dinner was "set menus" in the resorts own restaurants. Normally you can use all the restaurants at the laguna hotels. Booking a nice 5* star hotel we thought that the dinner would be a buffet, our fault I suppose that we did not ask about it before we made the reservation. First night we tried their italian restaurant where you could chose between 3 different set menus - the food and choice was ok. The second night we tried the thai restaurant rhuen thai, wich many people have raved about, but for us it was a major dissapointment. There was only 1 set menu and the food.......without a doubt the worst thai meal of our trip. I suppose that it all depends on what you are used to eat, but we just came came 5 days in Bangkok where we have eaten in very upscale resaturants and this was nothing like it. Our room was located on the 2nd floor. It was very clean and the interior nice allthough old and used, not really what you would expect from a 5 star resort. Bathroom amenities average for a 3 star not a deluxe resort. The hotel itself was the first one it the laguna resort build almost 20 years ago and it really needs a facelift. 10-15 years ago I can imagine that this was a 5 star resort but today its very worn down. With the wonderfull luxery hotels in the laguna resort we could just kick ourself that we booked the dusit and not one of the others. Bang Tao is a wonderfull beach, but already in early may on days of sun and no clouds and no wind the waves were gigantic. During the monsoon months I would not bring kids to this beach. In general, we really liked the beach and probably we would come back to the laguna area, just not the dusit laguna.
loved the dusit

I got married at the Dusit Laguna Resort in Phuket - staying there from 24th March until 2nd April. It was the most fantastic experience in my life, and the hotel staff could not have done more for us. The scenery is fantastic - a golden sandy stretch of beach directly in front of the hotel, and lots of sunbeds to use for free. The pool is lovely with different areas to play water polo etc. I would definitely recommend this hotel to everyone. There are lots of restaurants to eat at in the hotel and the other 4 hotels in the complex and lots along the beach, which are cheaper and just as nice to eat at. The breakfast buffet is fantastic, with a real honeycomb dripping honey each day!! Well worth the money, and lots of memories to leave with
Great Hotel...
from SSS2005
My wife and I really liked our week long stay at the Dusit. We had an Ocean View Deluxe Room on the second floor on the North Wing of the resort. The room is very nice and new and all the facilities are top class - spa, pool, dining & bar. We decided to pick the Laguna resort as it provided us with the privacy of a top class hotel complex with the choice of restaurants... as you can eat at any of the 5 hotels which are part of this resort. We visited the other 4 hotels for drinks/meals but overall Dusit fir our needs perfectly. The entire hotel is no more than a few hundred yards from the beach. The pool overlooks the beach and it is the only hotel there which is not cluttered with shops. The service was great and their pool side restaurant is highly recommeneded for lunch. A few tips - Lotus is a great restaurant for a meal outside the hotel. Get a taxi from outside the hotel to take you back to the airport as they charge THB 500 vs the hotel who charge THB 900+. We rented a taxi from the Canal Shopping Centre for THB 1000 for 4 hours. This was a great way to visit some of the other parts of the island.
Nice garden & beach, but big, crowded and needs refurbishing
from supergirl_munich
I stayed at the Dusit Laguna over New Year's Eve 2005/2006. Overall, the hotel is beautiful, but old and could use some remodelling. The garden and beach are great, service there is perfect. The Bangtao beach itself is wonderful, but at the hotel it's really crowded, too, and it's hard to find a lawnchair unless you reserve it at 8 in the morning! Also, seems like 75% of the guests are newly-rich Russians. The rooms are okay, not spectacular - I would not quite rate them as 5 star. Service is good, but seems like they rest a little too comfortably on their ratings. For what it is, it's definitely overpriced! Having all the facilities of the Laguna nearby is quite nice, though - there are tons of restaurants in the other hotels that you can go to. The party on New Year's Eve was too much for us (too expensive - 250 USD per person!), in the crowded, over-decorated lobby-turned-into-a-ballroom. They tried to sell it as mandatory, but we managed to "escape" and went to a little restaurant by the beach 5 mins away - wonderful! Just walk the beach north (to the right) and you'll find some great food for good (small) price - quite a difference from the overpriced hotel food... There's one exception though: you have to try Ruen Thai - their food is out of the world! All in all, I would not go there again, I think - but either spend more and stay at the Banyan Tree or Amanpuri, or a little less and go to the Chedi, which I loved two years ago!
Laguna Phuket's best
from speedytimmy
After spending a week at the Dusit in late November/early December all I can say is I think this is one of Laguna Phuket's nicest hotels. I didn't get a chance to check out the Banyan Tree but this rates well above the Laguna Beach Resort, Allameda and Sheraton. The lawn and beach area at the Dusit is great and the beach is free from the clutter of on beach restaurants. I'd suggest booking an ocean front room for the price difference. Breakfast is nice, but spend lunch/dinner at local places - Lotus by the Sheraton is top notch. Tom ... something ... by the Laguna Beach Resort is O.K. too. Change money in Canal Place - better rates. Shop at the supermarket there too for water, drinks, snacks. There was minimal if any construction others have noted. The Dusit was a peaceful and wonderful week. The Sheraton looked a little dated with a number of things under construction. The beach at the Laguna Beach Resort isn't nearly as nice. Allameda would rate for me 2nd after the Dusit. The Sheraton really isn't beachfront (the Laguna's is that nice). Dusit as wifi for a fee. Free supposedly in the Canal Village bakery - missed that while was there - would have taken the 2 minute walk with my laptop! Enjoy!

Booked ten nights at the Dusit as a first Thailand trip for my partner after four nights at the fantastic Bangkok Intercontinental. I have been to Thailand many times and stayed at the Dusit's in Pattaya, Hua Hin and Bangkok, I’ve found them all to be wonderful and I... more
