Negatives: Disappointingly small balcony, standing room only. Bathroom looked in need of a makeover. Air con didn't work for first two days despite reporting it immediately. (Came to fix it at 11.00pm!) Had money stolen from our room. Staff were unhelpful (and spoke... more

This hotel is fabulous and the staff are wonderful too, felt I had to write after reading bad reviews just before my boyfriend and I were due to fly out. On arrival we were shown to our room which was a standard supreme which is their most basic room, now I’ve stayed in... more

After staying at the Kata Thani further down Phuket this hotel seemed very average.
No particular problems with anything. Pool needed some maintenance work (missing tiles and some dodgy looking electrics).
Would personally advise the Kaat Thani instead of this hotel.

Excellent location and nice simple hotel. The staff were very friendly, and the hotel always clean and well presented. There is a steep incline to get to the lobby from the main road, so not ideal for people with mobility difficulties. The resort is quiet with good access... more

Excellent clean & friendly hotel
Stayed here 03/10-13/10/07 and had an excellent stay. Upgraded prior to arrival to a Diamond Suite. Was a bit unsure after reading some reviews and seeing some photo's but the room layout looked great on the web, so went for it. Was extremely pleased when we arrived. Was taken from the lobby up to a private check in area at the grand wing, and was given a refreshing drink in a pineapple. A great start. Was then taken to our room (2106) which on entry was very nice - very clean and spacious. Fantastic walk in closet with seperate bathroom AND shower room. This really was a superb feature. The bathroom had a sunken bath with shutters when opened which overlooked the sea. Beautiful. Outside our room was a fantastic pool - the grand wing pool (there are 3 pools at the hotel), and the grand wing pool is stunning - with a lovely waterfall and slide. There is also a pool across road on the beach front by one of the restaurants. This is also stunning. Excellent service from start to finish, and the hotel even knew it was our anniversary (although our welcome cake said 'honeymoon' lol). Petals on the bed on arrival too. The grounds are spotless and the hotel itself is lovely. Good fitness centre and excellent shuttle bus drivers. Only went in one restaurant which was nice but there are better. Would recommend this hotel definitely - far enough away from the hussle and bustle of Patong but close enough if you want it to be. Beautiful - would certainly stay at again. After staying at the Cape Panwa last year I was aprehensive this would be nowhere near as good but I wasn't to be disappointed.
outstanding resort
stayed here with six people and not one of us could say a bad thing about the diamond cliff. staff are very friendly so the service was superb. food on site was ok but you could get better in the main street for a lot less. pool with swim up bar was awesome as was the waterfall. location was good at the quiet end of patong beach but you could get a tuk tuk for around 100-120 baht dont pay any more than that from there, you never had to wait they were always there. only problem was walking up to your room late at night as it is a steep hill and the free shuttle finishes at around 11pm. overall would highly recommend and would go back in an instant. ps wasnt overpriced for what you get.
Fantastic Hotel
My wife and I stayed at this hotel for ten nights in September. From the moment of arrival we knew that this hotel was quality. We were taken to the bar and given drinks while the night manager took us through the resort map and facilities. Our room was just beside the main restaurant and one of the pools. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was really great too. The resort is very quite. Definitly recommended to anyone looking to relax in a tropical paradise. Our only regret was that we had to leave...
A Fabulous Gem
We loved this hotel, our room, which was a standard overlooking the middle pool, was just wonderful, I was thrilled when we first walked in. All the little extras are a lovely touch and added to the feeling of being in a luxurious hotel. The staff were very friendly, helpful and efficient e.g.reception happily checked our ongoing travel arrangements while we relaxed and left it to them. The location is just right a maximum 5-10 minute stroll to the main hustle and bustle of Patong or a short ride in one of the many tuk tuk's waiting outside. We visited in the rainy season but the facilities of the hotel meant that this didn't impact at all. We left the Diamond Cliff to go to Phi Phi but were really sad to leave as we enjoyed our stay so much.
lovely staff, location & facilities
The staff really make this hotel, they are all so friendly and cannot do enough to help. Although the room we stayed in had seen slightly better days, it did not detract from our stay. Lovely location out of the way for peace and quiet but easy to get to Patong for night life if you want. Good selection of 7 restaurants 3 excellent pools Stayed with husband and 2 teenagers aged 17 and 15 years who loved this hotel.
I would definitely recommend Diamond Cliff
The Diamond Cliff was absolutely fantastic! We loved the Thai restaurant on the property which has a beautiful Thai dance/music performance every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 7:30.. For some strange reason, there were not many customers at the restaurant. The food is great. The spa was also fantastic. The prices at the spa were very reasonable compared to other highly rated hotels. The rooms here were also very posh and comfortable with beautiful views of the water and cliffs. We were surprised that "low" season had so many tourists... we could not imagine being here at high season.
Excellent in nearly every way
We arrived on our honeymoon at the Daimond Cliff around noon and despite having to wait an hour or so for our room to be ready (we were aware of this beforehand) the desk staff checked us in and gave us all the information we needed whilst we were waiting so time well spent. The room was exactly as described and had some nice touches to show that they were aware that this was a honeymoon (rose petals shaped in hearts and a lovely cake). Only let down of the whole time was the initial view from this room being that of palm trees obscuring the sea (first floor of the grand wing). I rang reception and asked if we could move and was informed that we could on Friday (this was Tuesday) due to the other floors being fully booked until then. We were given another room as promised and this had a far better view of the bay. The rest of the resort was outstanding with only minor cosmetics in some areas not meeting the high standards of the majority. There are three good pools, but the best has to be the waterfall pool in the middle of the grand wing complex, where we spent many of our days. The staff were all extremely helpful, polite and made every effort to accomodate any requests throughout. The choice of food and drink was very good in all areas including the on site restaurants, of which there are seven, as well as room service and the pool bars. The hotel is close enough to Patong centre if you fancy a spot of nightlife, but far enough away if you like a bit of peace and quiet. Of all the hotels that we saw, the DC certainly looked and felt like it had the best character and setting being built on the hillside and with a variety not common elsewhere. Not ideal for anyone with difficulties walking, although the shuttle service up and down the hill until midnight circumvents that problem (unless you're a night person!) One element which was slightly lacking was anywhere to go within the resort itself of an evening. The Library bar which was advertised as having a late night social atmosphere and piano music has now closed and been replaced with the seaview bar which has no entertainment, but this didn't alter the overall feel of the holiday. All in all a thoroughly ideal place to stay for those looking for a bit of peace and quiet and relaxation away from the rat race with a bit of luxury and ambience. Very much recommended
Nearly a disaster....
We just got back from this resort this morning from 11 nights which was "supposed" to be our honeymoon. We had flown all day and arrived in Phuket about 10pm. We checked in and were given free drinks in pineapples and escorted to our room. I near died when we arrived in our room. No rose petals, no honeymoon cake, no room upgrade for our honeymoon (all of which were advertised in the travel brochure) and our room was very tiny, overlooking a carpark and the back of the ocean view coffee shop's kitchen. The shower was over a tiny tub and there was what appeared to be a streak of blood on the wall in the bathroom. I was severely disappointed in tears and rang reception. I had trouble breaking the language barrier but I got out of them that they had no idea that this was our honeymoon. I didn't understand this because we had specifically booked a honeymoon package with flight centre. I went and had a shower, still disappointed, got out and we decided to order some room service. No room service menu anywhere. We had to call room service who came and gave us one. By the way room service is not very good - small meals badly presented. If you have ever stayed at a shangri-la, you would understand (their room service is phenomenal). We climbed into the rock hard bed with no quilt (only a silly sheet), me still in tears and decided we would wait to talk to our tour representative the next morning. We did this and he couldn't even convince reception that it was our honeymoon and that we needed to contact our travel agent to sort it out. No offer to use the reception phone so we used our room phone which all in all ended up costing us about $58 aussie dollars. We were eventually told there had been a surname mix-up and our package had been given to someone else. They agreed to move us with the honeymoon bonuses. So we packed up and switched rooms which did have the promised petals and cake etc but still no room upgrade (they were apparently booked out). We were in the same room as before just with a better view. I think the room we stayed in was a "super deluxe" which is just [--]. I do not recommend. The balcony doesn't even have a decent awning for which to dry your wet clothes under. We just decided to cop it but I was so immensely disappointed that we didn't get the upgrade. This room was so not appropriate for a honeymoon. I wanted a romantic tub and big bed and spacious bathroom. Instead I was cramped in something smaller than our bedroom at home. We immediately noticed in this room that the toilet had a problem when flushing. It just filled with water. On two occassions, it completely overflowed flooding the bathroom with about 3 inches high water. We had to call the engineer to fix it but it still did the same thing about 2 days later. I wrote a letter of complaint to the general manager who responded with 14 red roses for me, an apology and free tickets to the resorts songkran festival. Other than the troubles we had with our accommodation, I couldn't really fault the resort. It is in a top location, great views, top staff, amazing pools (especially the waterfall) and good restaurants (the chinese was incredible). We did end up seeing the room we should have got (which was in the Grand Wind) and had we have got that room I would be nothing but praising this resort. It was top notch and very spacious. Shame we didn't get the upgrade. Upon checkout, I noticed our bill said "honeymooner" at top and I asked the lady in reception if they had known all along that we were honeymooners. She called someone over as I was very angry and they showed me what they had originally received from flight centre which was documentation requesting our booking with absolutely no mention that we were honeymooners!!! She showed me a later email from flight centre the day after we arrived correcting the documentation to say we were honeymooners. "Too late" she said. Had they had known when the first documentation had come through that we were honeymooners, they would have held the room upgrade for us. So officially, Flight Centre stuffed our entire honeymoon up. Beware when booking with them. The [--] about giving our package to someone else was a lie spun by Flight Centre to cover their mistake. Absolutely disgusting.
Nearly perfect............But a very bad start.
In almost every respect this hotel was fantastic, apart from the fact that we felt that they tried to rip us off by initially allocating us a lesser room than we had paid for. We stayed at this hotel between 2-11 April 2007. We booked a package via Flight Centre, as it appeared in a Qantas brochure. The deal was 10 nights for the price of 5, with an upgrade from a Super Deluxe room to an Ocean Suite. The O/S is about twice the size of a S/D, and more modern. After a fairly long days travel we arrived at the hotel at about 9.00pm, and we were very warmly welcomed. We were taken to room 1312, which was a really nice room, but having done my research, I recognised that it was clearly not the type of room that we should have been upgraded to. I went and spoke to management, who accepted that this was the case. They stated that they were sorry, but there were no Ocean Suites available. I told them that this was not good enough, and that I had only gone ahead with my booking on the basis of the package deal. They insisted that they could do nothing until the next day, when they would see what was available. This process continued until 10.00pm. I insisted that I speak with the duty manager/supervisor, and I was told that they would call my room. They had not done so by 10.30pm, so I went back down to the lobby, and told staff that I would wait until the manager was free. The manager spoke to me at 11.00pm, and repeated what I had been told earlier - that the problem could not be addressed until the next morning. She also said that the upgrade was conditional on rooms being available, which I hotly contested. I repeated my case, and said that if the problem was not rectified I would be contacting both my travel agent and Qantas and complaining. The manager went away until 11.30pm, and came back with the offer of a Junior Suite (1804) for the night, and a reassessment the next day, which I agreed to. The J/Suite was magnificent, and we remained there for the rest of the stay. We were not charged for this upgrade, and it was not discussed again. Unfortunately, the first night was a really, really bad way to start off the holiday. In every other respect, the Hotel was fantastic. Each of the three pools was great, the place was spotlessly clean, and the location at the Northern end of Patong was just a nice distance away from the madness of Patong. I could not fault the hotel generally. But for the events of the first night, I would have unreservedly given a 5 star rating for this hotel. What annoyed me was the feeling that they had tried to rip me off. If the upgrade was not available, and they had advised us of this, I would not have minded so much. What I did resent was the fact that they tried to pass a lesser room off as the better room, and it was only because I had done my homework that I was aware of it. What also annoyed me was that once they immediately conceded this fact, they continued to argue the point for over 2 hours. Bottom line - great hotel, but the experience was badly blemished. Maybe we were just unlucky, or there was a misunderstanding somewhere, but it felt like a rip off on the first night.
another day in paradise
This resort is surely paradise on earth. my partner lynne and i decided at short notice to take a holiday and phuket won because of the great deal we got. we stayed at the diamond cliff for 9 days in october 2006 and the experience was just wonderful. The resort is a short 10 min walk from the centre of patong beach, so it is relativly quite and relaxed. the resort has 3 pools, 1 with a small slide great for small kids10 and under, not much fun for teens or adults, but it also boasts a swim up bar in this pool. Our room was upgraded to a diamond wing suite with a partail ocean view as part of the deal we had. the room was large with a nice sunken bath you could open the shutters and look out over the ocean from. the room did also overlook a shdecloth roof that housed plants etc, which was slightly ugly, but it did have vines etc growing over it and soon will cover the whole roof area i suspect. Staff were very friendly and helpful, nothing ever seemed too much trouble. the resort is as the name would suggest, on the side of a cliff, so the trip up and down to reception is helped by the little trolley bus that always was at hand. the only time we ate in any of the 5 resturants was for the free 7 course dinner that was also part of our package. breakfast was also included in our deal and it was superp every day. full buffet plenty of fruit, cereals, everything you could want. lynne and i ate up big and went without lunch most days. dinners we just walked down to patong beach and ate ate one of the many food outlets. found that 3-4 streets back from beach front the food was better, hotter, and cheaper. Lynne had a slight fall out the front of the resort and the staff attended to her and called the nurse over to check her over, no serious damage done. Before we left we were given the phone number of a local man that will drive you around the whole day for around 1000 baht (approx $35 aussie) which is an absolute bargain. we used him twice 8 hours each time in a comfortable aircon waggon. his name is Mr May and his number in phuket is [--]. his wife nooch takes bookings and it is a great way of seeing the island, just work out all the places you want to see and he will take you there and give you a locl view to everything. We are not that much into shopping so the touts at patong beach became very annoying to us but just say no thanks and walk on was the best option for us. We went on day trips almost everyday and found that booking tours etc was about half the price in the town than at the resort and usually the same tour was had. we went on 2 tours that included people from our resort and when talking about prices as you do, ours were about half the price.
