I used to work for Thomas Cook and got a discount with this hotel. This hotel is beautiful and the staff are lovely. There was an Italian restaurant within the complex which is very romantic - the bed and breakfast basis is definitely the way to go. Breakfast was via a buffet - a wide array of foods / drinks, both Thai and English were available.
Rooms were superb and the bathroom was lovely - all very hygienic and cleaned every day, often twice a day. The view we received was of Patong Beach and the photos we have are amazing. The only thing I would deter would be the room service - tasty but pricy - it’s worthwhile venturing out and exploring Patong because food outlets are diverse and range from cheap to reasonable. There is one place in town were a music group perform nightly - the name surpasses me but I think it was Balai Laa or something along those lines. Fresh fish is aplenty (I had lobster for £15) - but it also serves pizzas, burgers, spaghetti etc.
The hotel was located on a hill - it wasn't too long to walk down but you might as well take a tuk-tuk - there was plenty based outside the hotel. To go into downtown would take 2-3 mins and cost about £1.00.
The beach was slightly muddy and there are jellyfish within - I would recommend a trip down to the phi-phi islands for a day (where the Beach was filmed) - we snorkelled and it really is a very stunningly beautiful beach. A bit touristy now, of course, but that doesn't make it any less gorgeous. Don't go with the tour operators to book this - in town, we found a lovely girl who worked for a company called Swiss Travel which was located in one of the shopping arcades in the middle of Patong Road. Her tours were very cheaply priced - the other one we did was a jungle trek with white water rafting - definitely not for the faint hearted.
It’s worthwhile venturing out when in Thailand - we didn't spend too much time in our room but the entire trip was amazing. A fusion between total luxury at our hotel as well as the culture outside (the people are amazing) - that why I'm travelling back long term next year!
