I stayed at the Royal Cliff for fourteen nights in a cliff terrace suit. The room and the view was beautiful. We were overlooking the beach. There was lots of different restaurants you could choose from and they were very expensive, but its what you expect as its a five... more

Having been to The Royal Cliff Beach Resort five times now speaks for itself. Our last visit was for four weeks during Christmas and New Year. Magical doesn't describe it enough! We normally go during June/July so this was a first for us. The Royal Cliff Grand is the place... more

Stench and Stains
There are 4 different hotels within Royal Cliff Beach Resort - namely Royal Cliff Beach Hotel, Royal Cliff Terrace, Royal Cliff Grand & Spa and Royal Wing & Spa. Readers, please be careful not to confuse these hotels when reading the reviews. I stayed at Royal Cliff Beach Hotel for two nights in October 2006, for business appointments. Positive Points: - Nice ocean view - Spacious room/balcony (I stayed in a "mini-suite" with 2 beds which I believe is the smallest room category) - Good variety of delicious food (Breakfast buffet and roomservice menu include Thai, Indian, Chinese and small selection of Japanese dishes in addition to usual Western food) - Fairly courteous staff (although many of them spoke limited English, with very thick accent...and I was a bit baffled when a boy who carried my bag looked about 14 years old) Negative Points: - THE STENCH. Lobby, hallways and the guest room...everywhere was filled with the mouldy, musty smell. It was unbearable. - Furniture was old. Some parts of the room were dirty. A couple of hairs left here and there, including in the bath tub. A piece of plastic wrapper under the coffee table. A pistachio nut shell under the bedside table. None of them belonging to me. Coffee mugs in the room had stains. Worst of all, the bath tub, too, was covered with brown spots which must have been the accumulation of soap scums and lime scales over the years. Of couse I had to give up the thought of nice hot bath, but still had to stand on them to take a shower. - As someone else wrote, the resort is not near the city centre. I wanted to have a little walk along the beach in the early afternoon and asked a young lady at the information desk how I can get to 'Walking Street.' (On the map, the street was right next to the resort .) She looked surprised and said, "You alone? walking? Noooo...it's dangerous. You can take a taxi." I explained that I simply wanted to walk around and she recommended "a park in front of the resort." However, I somehow didn't like the idea of walking away from the ocean when I (well, my company) had paid to stay by the ocean...so ended up reading a book in my smelly room instead! I am glad that I was there only for two nights. I liked the food, though.
The worst 5 star hotel we have ever stayed in!
We stayed in this hotel for 8 nights in July. THe room was quite spacious but old. Generally speaking the hotel is in need of renovation. The staff were really rude and unhelpful! The bathrobes the hotel offered resembled a cleaning lady's uniform (made of very thin cotton with holes). The bed linen was with holes as well. The territory was not lit up at night except for a few palm trees at the pool. The breakfast was OK, but the same every day and on the 3d day you simply get sick of it. I was really surprised when I found a price list of every item in the room including ash trays, soap boxes, towels etc. as in a cheap hostel! Will never stay in this hotel again should I ever return to Pattaya.
Good but not real 5*
We stayed at Royal Cliff Terrace for 10 days in July 2006. In general we thought the hotel was very good. Rooms were large and well furnished. Some of the restaurants were very good indeed and the wine list was better than any I have seen in Thailand bar the Boathouse in Phuket. Thought that some of the attention to detail that you expect in a 5* hotel were missing though. We have 2 young children and found the place not very child friendly. For example it was very difficult to get from Terrace Hotel to rest of resort without encountering stairs. And what really surprised us was that when you came to a flight of stairs while pushing a child in a buggy the staff just watched you struggle! We found the hotel to be a bit petty about things also. For example they would charge you 20 baht for a bucket of ice from room service and they would not bring you a bottle opener to try and stop you bringing any of your own drinks to your room. Another classic was the baby sitting service-they charged per child per hour. So a babysitter for 1 child was 150 baht an hour and the same sitter looking after 2 children was 300 baht an hour! Silly. In summary it was a nice hotel but could be a really nice hotel if they thought a little bit harder about the service side of things. Thai hotel chains like Central and Amari are much better on the service side.
Loved the Royal Cliff
I have travelled the world and stayed in some beautiful places. however The Royal Cliff surpassed all expectations. The rooms were beautiful, the staff excellent, the food great. I will return again and again, the Royal Cliff and staff made me fall in love with Thailand. Thank you so much.
brilliant hotel
my friend and i stayed here for a fortnight and i can honestly say it is the best hotel i have ever stayed in.a four poster bed in the room ,a fridge bigger than the one at home, everyone was really great.the pool was fantastic with the butler service you didn`t have to get off your sun lounge rall day.we stayed in the rainy season but it only rains for an hour a day so this did not spoil the trip.the only down side was getting a car to the town,it`s about 2 miles out .they were charging about 3 quid when the baht buses were about 70 pence.tip : wait in the bar with a beer till a baht bus drops someone off then hijack it back to town, will save you about 40 quid over two weeks!!
woderful and luxurious.....
royal cliff beach terrace R&I Strachan from lancs We stayed here in April 2006. Wonderful and luxurious and big and airy rooms, we had a mini sea view suite . Hotel prices for food and drink match those at home but we used the shacks on the beach front at lunchtime and found the secret gate for the evening........Behind thelarge water feature to the front of the hotel there is a car park to the right of this a large grey gate with a side door which says Dear, hotel guests please do not use this staff entrance!!!! we used it and found a street behind the hotel with bars shops taxis etc. bars- large bottle of beer 55baht hotel 180bht bars- cola 20bht hotel 150 bht taxi to pattaya for 2 100 bht hotel taxi 200bht there is also a laundry, chemist, three tailors 2 supermarkets and half a dozen restaurants and bars. well worth using the secret gate. ( a couple from Essex told us about it - thankyou ) As the hotel is a bit remote this find was great!! We also went to the Vietamese restaurant on the 23rd floor of the Pattay hills hotel about 15 mins walk behind the the Royal Cliff hotel Marvellous views of the whole of Pattaya Bay at night, the views were breathtaking and the food medium priced but excellent both euopean and asian. Don't use the Boss tailor in the hotel expensive and very poor quality.
Best of the Best Resorts
Royal Cliff Beach Resort is certainly the best of the best resorts in Pattaya. We stayed in the Royal Cliff Beach Hotel, one of the 5-star hotels in the resort from 16-23 March 2006. The pristine swimming pools, always smiling staff, fabulous food, cosy ambience, truly private beach, well-equipped sports and fitness centre..... Everything is excellent there. We hope to go back soon. Ranganath G
Royal Beach Cliff Hotel a Total Nightmare… Avoid!
I always stay at the Marriott in Pattaya but this time I booked too late and could not get a room so I called my travel agent who also said the same thing… no rooms they are fully booked. When I was in Bangkok at the JW Marriott I asked the front desk to try to book me in but again they said there are no rooms at the Pattaya Marriott. So I go online and book a room at the Beach Cliff… there are a few different hotels in this beach front area… on their map it looks like it’s at the end of Walking Street but it’s no where near and it’s really miles away. When I arrive at the Beach Cliff I can already start to feel I’m in trouble… I check in and the front desk lady starts telling me this big list of rules, what pools I can’t use, what I can’t eat, where I can’t walk… and best of all… “you like lady at night you mus pay 500 baht for her in you room ok” oh great like the 6064 baht a night isn’t enough I got to pay them more to bring a girl up to my room? OK I just ignored that part. She takes me up to the 6th floor and as soon as we enter what is to be my room I’m hit with the stench of mold! I started to sneeze and told her “the room stinks of mold… she just looks at me… ‘you no like room?’ I tell her no it stinks of mold… do you know what mold is? She just gives me a blank stare. Then a manager comes up who says “I take you to room with no smoking” I tell her it’s not cigarette smoke… it’s mold… she again doesn’t know what I’m saying or is just acting dumb about it. The next room she takes me too again it infested with mold. Then she takes me to another room… this room does not smell as bad but it looks like -- and the furniture looks like something out of a 1960’s movie. She then leaves me in this room… I just sit there and think about it all…. no -- way I’m staying in this over priced ---! I go down to the front desk and tell them I’m not happy and am leaving… “Ok you check out?” yes I’m leaving…. Then she hands me a bill for one night’s payment!!! I can’t --- believe this place has the nerve to try to now charge me for a whole night and I’ve been there less then an hour in their mold infested hotel. She tells me that since I booked the room I must pay… I then politely said yes but your rooms are not up to standard of a quality hotel… I would not have this problem with the Marriott where I have stayed many times. I will pay you only 2000 baht… she then goes “ok you pay 3000 baht” what a joke this place is! I just pay it and get out of there.. I was lucky they gave me 50% off the charge… I don’t know if I can do a charge back since once they got your card number when you check in and your signature it’s hard to dispute it… and they know this and take advantage of you in this way.
So Good We Keep Going Back
A first class 5* resort set about 15 minutes from the hustle and bustle of Pattaya city. We've been back 5 times now, the staff at this hotel are what makes it memorable. Nothing is too much trouble and the staff to guest ratio is far superior to European standards. Rooms all tend to face the bay of Siam and provide stunning views and sunsets. Room service is really excellant standard of good value and great for breakfast if like us, you can't face a dining room in the morning. There is a great spa in the Royal Wing, i would recommend a massage which they do on the 6th floor terrace - overlooking the bay - sheer bliss.... Although the hotel provides a chargable limousine service to the city centre from the hotel, you can hop on the local cabs (open air pick up trucks) for about 6 baht each way. Whatever you do, i am sure you'll enjoy the service at this hotel.
fabulous Hotel...
This hotel is fantastic, staff are so helpful and friendly and make a fuss of you... Its very clean and bright! So many restaurants in the complex serving great food, prices are cheap considering its a 5 star hotel. My partner and I stayed there for 2 weeks recently and I can not say a bad thing about the Royal Cliff... You can get a bus into Pattaya which is only 5 mins away for 70-100 baht. We loved Pattaya and Jomtien so much that we bought 2 properties there and are going back in December...
