We honeymooned here for a week in August 2006 and had a perfect week of peace and luxury.
The food was first-class in the help-yourself buffet part, with everything for breakfast that you could wish for - from British to Thai curry. The restaurant is air-conditioned but it was pleasant sitting out on the balcony part.
For lunch you can visit the poolside restaurant for bistro style snacks (i.e. nice but not huge portions).
There were two restaurants serving evening meals - one down near the pool which was very expensive by Thai standards and the other (which we ate in several nights) was a £10 International cuisine night which varied each night from Thai to European to most things! The highlight was the puddings - you name it - they made it from rich choc pot mousses to divine little mini cakes - all small enough so that you could take several to sample a range. Even then there were 15 to choose from.
Outside of the hotel there were only a couple of local places to eat but they were fantastic value and good quality.
The location of the hotel is remote and well away from the main town of Krabi itself so is not ideal if you're looking for a more vibrant holiday.
We used the hotel transport (payable locally to the hotel) for day trips. The best trip we took was to James Bond Island which included a boat ride through the mangroves, a canoe trip under the limestone caves (paddled by a guide - ours was about 80 and remarkably strong..) a trip to the rock filmed in The Man with a Golden Gun and a visit to an elephant park (which is not for everyone).
Another highlight and a must if you love cooking or like us just can't was a half day's Thai Cookery course - 6 courses per person and you get to eat them! Be warned though, do not eat breakfast first as your hostess expects you to try and eat everything!
The staff at the hotel were brilliant - nothing too much trouble and extremely polite. The rooms were spacious and immaculate. A nice touch on our arrival was fresh petals scattered on our bed, flowers and fruit so worth telling them about anniversaries etc.
The hotel has its own beach and is only a few minutes’ walk; although staff will offer to take you in the golf buggy should you wish. There are free loungers on the beach and several water sports are on offer and should you not like sand - a pool is a few metres away too though we preferred the warm sea.
The weather was variable - always humid and sunny with a sudden downpour in the afternoons but we did go in rainy season.
We absolutely loved this hotel and wouldn't hesitate in going back.
