Wexford Court Hotel Reviews

6 / 10
Dec 2006, Mrs J Birch

For a low star hotel and not a big hotel either, I found this place a nice place to stay.
With the view over looking the bay on its own was worth the cost. Its not the Ritz but its clean comfy and not over priced.
It's worth checking out if your going to Montego Bay. The food was good too.

First time in Jamaica
I thought the hotel was clean. The staff was somewhat cold, not sure if it is cultural or not but hospitality wasn't in their best interest. We went for price and for the price, the hotel was clean and in a great position for the view. I did visit an all-inclusive hotel while I was there and enjoyed it much more.
Not the Wexford!!!!
The staff is extremely rude! Our room leaked and the counter clerk simply stated, "I'll get back to you." We met this wonderful woman, Ms. Dolly. She owns a store on the "Hip Strip". Ask for her when you go to make purchased (prices are very reasonable). She offered to contact the owner of the hotel, who is on the Jamaica Tourist Committy. Obviously she did and staff came to investigate the situation and completed the repair (two days later). Jamaica is a beautiful place to visit, but overall, the natives are not very friendly.
You get what you pay for.
I stayed at this hotel for 5 days, and found the accommidation exactly what I expected. It kills me that Americans go to other countries, and expect things to be exactly like the states. When deep down inside they know that theres not very many countries that could possibly accommidate them like the states. Jamaica is a beautiful country, and I think when you travel there, you should have the attitude"When in Rome"etc. So Americans should get off their "high horses" if you know what I mean. When visiting other countries, they should embrass the differents and enjoy.
Wexford NO!
This place is crap. The people were OK, the bartendress was rude and uniterested. I had to help the "bellman" with my own bags, since he was so old, he was having trouble walking up the steps. The room was dirty, the tolilet leaked...no clock in the room. Wake-up call was 20 min. late, not that I needed it. I did not sleep. The music from the disco across the street was SO loud. it kept me up all night long. The bass from the disco sound system was actually vibrating the water in a glass on the bedside table. The place reminded me of a hotel that rents rooms by the hour. Maybe they do! Also, would not recommend ANYone walking outside the hotel after dark. Very unsafe. Got accosted a half-dozen times by cabbies & drug dealers. The Pelican next door, rather like a Denny's...has GREAT good, great service.
Hated The Wexford
The people working at the hotel were rude and just plain nasty. The food was not good at all, we could not get any calls out to the US until we had to argue with the staff to do so. Jamaica just isn't what we expected starting with the hotel. We expected to hear some reggae music or different music from what we here daily in the US. The worst part of the trip was whenever we walked out of the hotel we couldn't make it from one corner to the next without being interrupted by people trying to sell you something or just following you. It was a bad experience and I felt really bad about the trip because it was a surprise graduation trip for my daughter, she hated it and we will never travel there again.
best choice on a budget
The Wexford is the ideal place for doing Jamaica on a budget. You cannot beat the location...next door to the Pelican and Burger King.....across the street from Marguaritaville....1/2 a block from the Brewery....about a 15min walk to Sam Sharpe Square(the town). You will find the duty fre shops, craft market, KFC, Pizza Hut and McDonalds. There is a public beach across the street. There you will meet some interesting characters. They are harmless, but, if you are concerned there is always uniformed police officers walking around day and night. The rooms are clean and include the basic necessities....A/C, cable TV, phone. Pay the extra for the oceanview, the view of the ocean and the sunset from your private balcony is well worth it. IF YOU WANT TO BE PAMPERED THE WEXFORD IS NOT FOR YOU....ON A BUDGET, THIS IS IT.
Not a good experience
We stayed 4 nights in Negril before going to Montego Bay for one night. If you have the option to stay in Negril do it, do not even mess with Montego Bay. We stayed one night at the Wexford and it was not the best. We had ants all over our bed, nightstand, and curtains as well as a leaking ceiling in the bathroom. The hallway outside our room was covered with empty beer bottles and old room service food. The staff was nice but the rooms were not. I would look to stay somewhere else.
Not for high matienence
This is definitely not the place to stay if you are high matienence, and I have to admit I'm a little high matienence. The staff was nice but the accomodations are very 1 star. We had a bug problem (roaches) and was given a can of RAID, at least that had it to give. Very noisy because it is right on the strip. Overall, the trip was great and a humbling experience. Keeps you humble and thankful of what you have.
Returning for a second stay
We stayed at the Wexford for one night in 2000 at the suggestion of someone who lives in Jamaica. Everything I remember about it is lovely. Great location...nice staff...cooperative drivers (honest and reliable)...lovely veranda with rocking chairs for a complimentary cocktail. We met some Jamaican ladies who were so nice that I still recall their conversation. We are returning again next month and I cannot imagine staying at any other hotel in MoBay. There really is no reason to go anywhere else. I don't recall any traffic noise...just the beautiful view...Certainly is worth paying a few extra dollars to sit on your private balcony and look upon the Caribbean right across the street. For the money, you can't do better and could probably do a lot worse. I like to go where the locals send their friends. Don't miss eating at the Pelican next door. Go to Margueritaville for drink on the deck overlooking the blue waters below. But,while the food is good, it is expensive. I understand that Doctor's Cave beach is close by so we are planning to go there for a swim. No problem, mon. At $90 a night you can't beat it. Hope you enjoy it as much as we did. Send in a review upon your return so I can see how you liked it.
Would go back
My boyfriend and just returned from a 5 night stay at the Wexford Hotel in MoBay. I would stay there again! Not your 5 star hotel, but very clean and neat. Service was good, but if you need it pack an iron. You have to call the front desk each time you need it and then they want it back. One night we had to wait about half an hour for it. We did not spend a whole lot of time in the room. We really enjoyed our time in MoBay as well as the time at the Wexford. I will go back. If you need to be catered to like a 5 star hotel would then don't stay at the Wexford.
