Jul 2006, Miss V E Millwood

I had the most amazing holiday ever, In Mo Bay we went to margarita Ville everyday for the beautiful view and having a swim in the sea and jump on the trampoline. Also Doctors Cove Beach you couldn’t ask for a more clean beach, bars and restaurants. The vibe was so nice... more

Great for the price
I stayed May 27 to May 29. This hotel is a great price in a great location. Get the room with the balcony. Lots of shopping in walking distance. Margaritaville is 3 minute walk up the street. The hotel restaurant had great food, especially breakfast. If I go back to Montego Bay, I will stay there again.
Hated it
I had reservations for Doctors Cave Hotel for March 22-25 but I would not stay there even if it was free. We had to pay the total amount upfront and when we went to the room, it was dirty and hot although the airconditioning was on. The manager was notified and tried to convince us to stay. Obviously, he believes that everyone wants to stay in those conditions and unfortunately some members of our party had to stay because all the other hotels were filled due to Easter and Spring Break. The room that they were placed in was the filthiest room I've ever seen. The carpet was nasty, the walls had what looked like blood on them. It was so bad that those guests had to ask the maid to clean the walls and the fan. 3 of us were lucky enough to find other accomodations and we were able to get a refund only because the other members of the party had no choice but to stay there. I would NEVER recommend this hotel to anyone. Message to the owners! Please clean and renovate ALL of your rooms.
Love the Location,Questionable Hotel
I love Jamaica!! But this hotel? Is a very basic, budget hotel that not too many people would have stayed at after the first day. It has your basic ammenities to get by (pool, bar,rest...) but unfortunately almost everything was closed for renovations when we went. Because there were open halls and terraces we saw stray cats running around the hotel, not used to!! There were all inclusive hotels, but only one ( breezes ) downtown where we were. My husband and I like to explore, and try different restaurants and activities, not just the tourist stuff,so it seems a waste to do all incl, for us. But besides the hotel being...basic, we were within walking distance to Margueritville and thats all that mattered!! We love this place!! We ate, drank, and hung out here every night here. The beach is a short walk away and the pool hall too. Jamaica is alot of fun and there's lots to see, I would stay at this hotel again, because of the location, but also because I know what to expect, and the location is worth the... simplicity.
For Music Lovers
I stayed at Doctor's Cave Beach Hotel during a business trip 8 - 12 January 2005. First of all the hotel is not on the beach as the name might indicate. It is a 4 minutes walk crossing a very busy road. Unfortunately my room was facing said road and the pool and restaurant with music constantly playing at a fairly high volume until midnight. Do ask for a room facing away from the road! On the positive side: the rooms are adequate, with tv and safe (for additional charge), telephone and ample wardrobe space. The "Jamaican Breakfast" was excellent, however it was not available 3 out of 4 mornings. The dinner menu is fairly limited, however the fish from the buffet on Saturday night was absolutely delicious. The friendliness of the staff varied. The receptionist was really friendly and helpful, so was Paul, the porter. Some of the restaurant staff improved as they got to know you, however sometimes tended to ignore people and had little coordination in who served which table. Winston was the friendliest of them all. The DJ was good on Saturday night and got me to dance even though I was tired after a delayed flight - great variety of music! All in all I would recommend it if you like the local touch to a hotel and take advantage of the location close to the "hip strip" as opposed to some of the exclusive hotels are out in the middle of nowhere and not encouraging to go out and experience the "local vibes".
Enjoyable Stay at Doctor's Cave
For our first trip to Jamaica, we selected Doctor's Cave Beach Resort. It proved to be an above average Tourist Hotel in nearly every respect. The staff was friendly & helpful, the housekeeping service was excellent, and the location proved ideal. Our room was moderately comfortable and the adjoining patio had a beautiful view of the gardens. The central location of the hotel made it convenient to walk to three excellent restaurants: The Town House, Marguerite's, and Ma Lou's. All in all, Doctor's Cave offers good value for their service and amenities.
Clean and Cozy
I spent a few days at DOCTOR'S CAVE BEACH HOTEL, Dec. 26th 2004 I found the place to be clean and cozy. If you are looking for a clean place to rest your head and take a shower without spending a lot of money this hotel would be ideal. The staff were friendly and courteous. I traveled alone and felt very comfortable. The restaurant was great too! I enjoyed the hotel evening entertainment Limbo contest and Reggae dance lessons. I look forward to a return visit soon. Definately budget friendly.
An horrible place to stay
It was my first trip to Jamaica with my husband, he made the bad mistake of chosing that hotel online, I think that he did not read the reviews on the hotel. My God, that place was killing me from the breaskfast to the dinner, what kind of food are they serving to people!!! The staff was completely indifferent, you seat for 30 minutes in a restaurant without seeing any waiter coming...... I would not ever recommend it to any of my friends. And the last night before I left I went to the bathroom and there were two big red cokratch running ....... (when I read here that the place is clean). And this way they have to leave a note below the door of the room to remind people to leave before 12 pm is so vulgar, people who make reservation know normally when to leave, there is no need to push their back. .... I'm sure of one thing....we will never go back there again.
excellent for the price
Dec 1/04 - Dec 8/04 Doctor's cave beach hotel was a wonderful budget hotel. I had my doubts about this place but after my stay I have nothing bad to say about it. The staff was very professional and curtious at all times. The hotel was very well keep as well as the rooms. The cleaning service came around every day to make the beds and supply clean linen. The grounds of the hotel was very safe and to my surprise the garden was beautiful. The pictures on the internet are some what out dated but everything was just as lovely apon arrival. There was a very well keep pool, jacuzzi, and even a weight room that stayed opean until 11pm. We had a blast on tuesday and saturday night at DCBH during the free rum punch parties. This is definitly the place to stay if your looking to spend less while getting plenty on rest and relaxation. However being in Jamaica was somewhat of a turn off. The shop owners and people in general from the very young to the very old harrassed us each and every time we left the comfort of the hotel. Poverty is in abundance in Jamaica.
Good Little Budget Hotel!
Wanted to spend a few days in the sun, but not break the bank doing it. Doctors Cave Beach Hotel fit the bill. The location was perfect for going to the beach. It's literally a 2-3 minute walk away. The hotel was safe and clean. Don't expect lots of pampering, but the staff and locals are very friendly. Lots of families were in residence during my stay. The local vendors are aggressive but respond very well to a firm "No Thanks". The hotel even had Internet access. All and all, I'd stay there again.
Not bad for a budget hotel
I stayed at the Doctors Cave several years ago when I visited Jamaica. The staff was very nice and the room was clean and well-kept. Granted, the place is not a luxury hotel; do not go there expecting it to be. It is a very nice budget hotel located close to downtown Montego Bay and right across the street from the beautiful Doctors Cave Beach. Expect to be harassed by the locals as you walk down the street...prostitution is a problem on Gloucester Avenue, and someone will surely want to sell you ganja (marijuana) before you get too far. Still, if you are looking for a comfortable yet relatively cheap place that is near the beach, shopping and restaurants, the Doctors Cave is an ideal place. I had a room that face the back yard of the hotel, so noise was never a problem. My only complaint was that the TV was supposed to be full cable, but the only channel that I could get was HBO.
