This was the most fantastic holiday I have had for years. From the moment I was greeted by my chauffeur till he dropped me back, it was a holiday of a lifetime. I cant recommended this bit of paradise enough. The all-in-inclusive package was worth every penny. The food... more

This is the best holiday we have ever had! We have been twice, with and without kids and are planning our third visit. The resort isn't extensive, but I can't imagine that the Datai or the Andaman could offer any better. Our meal plan was full board, which included all... more

Perfect!
Honeymoon here 10 nights Dec 05. Found the place to be all we wanted. The beach is huge, so it's easy to find a quiet spot. The whole setting is very romantic. Find it hard to see where people are not happy. The staff are amazing, they are so polite and willing to help in every way. They really can't do enough for you. We had no problems getting into any restaurants, although we did hear others that did. We did the upgrade to AI each day and made sure we booked our meal before we booked the AI on any given day. Food is exceptionally good. The choice at breakfast is massive too. The rooms are great and not at all out of date. Very large. Maybe they could have had a little more storage, but it's hardly a big deal. If you're inspecting the decor on the stairway on holiday.......well, that's best left unsaid. Suffice to say, I didn't see a fault with it and I'd go back tomorrow. It is a very quiet resort, there is no bar atmosphere in the evening. Not what I'd look for on every holiday, but perfect for the honeymoon. Same goes for the pools, sometimes it can feel like a library around the pool and you're afraid to make any noise. We found the Aussie's to be a little more relaxed (younger generally as well) than the (stuck up/older) Brits, but that's very general! The only downside I can think of......there are one or two at reception who simply don't understand what you're asking of them. Once you know them, just stay clear and ask the more switched on people when they are there. But otherwise, cooks, gardeners, waiters, conceirge, room boys are so very helpful and polite.
Great stay
Stayed a week at end Nov 05. Great resort, wonderfully friendly staff and great service. We had a fine big room and although a little tired had everything we needed including 2 flat screen TVs and CD and DVD players. Only drawback was that we were on the top (4th.) floor and there is no lift but not a major problem. The new pool is smashing and the fresh fruit skewers followed by cold towels twice a day is a nice touch. The beach is long, white and beautiful and as the hotel has a monopoly on it, very few people on the beach. The sea is fine to swim in if you are energetic enough. The organisation of the Rhu "fine dining" restaurant is a bit strange in that there is a need to book in advance for dinner, but we booked late without a problem, while others did have some difficulty. Food generally was very good, but as far as I could see there are no pig products available so no pork bacon or sausages for breakfast but otherwise the buffet was very good. Little to do for kids. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel highly.
Not a 5 star hotel at all
We were looking forward to our 2-night stay at the Tanjung Rhu at the end of October - but were really really disappointed. - The rooms were large but really need updating. - The corridors leading to the rooms were dark and dank and really needed a lick of paint. - No lift meant a climb up three flights of stairs. I was not that bothered but felt very sorry for the room service boys - As already mentioned in other reviews the restaurants were all fully booked. We had paid extra for all-inclusive and were told we could not get a table at 'the Rhu'. After a little pleading we were told we could have an outside table. This in fact was much nicer than those inside, which looked like they were situated in a corridor! - The beach was poor, shelving very quickly so not that suitable for young children - The main pool was crowded; no body used the lagoon pool in the center of the resort so my husband and I retreated here. It did feel a little as though you were swimming in a water feature! - Room service was delivered with a smile but the food was very poor In fact I was so upset by the whole experience that we de-camped to the four seasons down the road for the day (an amazing place - needs to be seen to be believed) and only ended up sleeping here. The service was indifferent as well. Room service was delivered with a smile but very slow (probably because no one could get in a restaurant) On the plus points: - If you can get into 'the Rhu' restaurant the food and service is amazing. Unfortunately that only holds about 20 people per night. - Not a pretentious resort - A good family resort I had just spent a week at the Datai, which was amazing. The Tanjung Rhu is the same price and a much much much lower standard. Not what I wanted at all from my holiday. For the price I believe this is really bad value for money. We will definitley NOT BE BACK!
Absolutely Wonderful
My wife and I visited the resort in the final stage of a three centre honeymoon. The moment we were greeted by the jag at the airport we knew that we were in for a treat. We did have concerns before arriving. A couple had warned us in penang that they cancelled the rhu because there was building work on site. The days we were there you would not have known about the construction. It was well screened and there was barely a noise. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The courtyard layout is fantastic and the view out to the bay is breathtaking. You get a real sense of peace and tranquility. If you want to relax/chill out the rhu is the place. We found the food to be a good/consistent standard. There was little in the way of entertainment but you do not go to a resort like the rhu for cabaret. Would recommend to anyone who needs to get away and relax. We made use of the spa which was nice but no better than what we have experienced at home. We stayed 4 days, a week would probably be adequate. A visit to the shop would be recommended. There are some lovely pieces that are made in the artisans hut. Agreat way to finish the honeymoon. We were very sad to be leaving the resort. The only thing I would recommend is getting a taxi driver to bring you on a tour of the island. It is an inexpensive and a nice way to see the island from a local perspective.
Heaven on earth!!
This resort was fantastic, the attention to detail and service were second to none. with fresh fruit and in the room each day and freshly laudered robes each day.- the room itself was superb, with 2 awesome pool was wonderful, the nearby spa facilities were out of this world a real treat and a must-do whilst you are there. The 3 restaurants we dine within the hotel were fabulous. I would strongly recommend this resort!!
A little disappointed
The recent bad reviews on this hotel has prompted me to share our experience when we were there for 10 days in Sept. What we found rather disappointing was that despite their knowing that we were on our honeymoon, we were allocated a Bayu Senja room adjacent to rooms that were being refurbished. The mistake we made was not asking for a room change at the outset (which on hindsight we should have) as we were rudely awaken on the 5th morning of our stay to the sound of drilling and the smell of paint fumes permeating thru the AC unit. On requesting that we switched rooms, we were moved to another room at a different block with a partially obstructed sea view and a leaking AC. This time we daren't complain as we were grateful that we no longer had to put up with the drilling noise and the smell of paint. We also found it strange that on several occasions some people were turned away from the Rhu when clearly there were a number of free tables around for the whole time we were there. Not sure what the rationale for that was. Then there was this one incident when a friend of mine (who was staying at the resort the same time as us) had asked to see a doctor. The person she spoke to on the phone claimed that there were no clinics open anywhere in Langkawi at that time (about 5.30pm local time) and that it would cost her RM 400 to get a doctor to make a house call. I knew only too well that was rubbish and immediately went down to reception to enquire where the nearest late-hour clinic was. Thankfully we found a helpful soul in a receptionist called Chandran (I think) who not only told us where to go but was also kind enough to make an appt for her for that evening. The visit to the clinic set her back by a mere RM30, nowhere near the RM400 she would have had to pay for a house call. I can only conclude from our experience that the level of service at Tanjung Rhu isn't consistent. We generally found it to be average for the kind of money we paid to stay there - I have experienced consistently superior service at Thai resorts of similar rating. Safe to say, my husband and I too will not be staying at the Tanjung Rhu resort the next time we are in Langkawi.
luxury , stylish and personal touch
My boyfriend and I stayed at the Tanjung Rhu Resort last week and we had an amazing time! It was wonderful from the moment we were welcomed into the impressive lobby by the friendly staff who bring us direct for the check in the room and offering us tasty drinks together a cold towel to refresh ourselves. You walk out from the lobby through one of the restaurants and you are then outside, high above, overlooking the swimming pool and the beach & ocean. I do not agree AT ALL with a few people who said that the rooms at the Tanjung Rhu are 'tired' and service are poor!!! We had a Bayu Senja the ocean view and it was great - very modern design, spotless, with a big, comfy bed and the freshest linen ever. The bathroom was great with lots of luxurious products, bathrobes and even a little vase with bath salt blended in fresh flower petals in it - the smell was incredible! In a previous review someone said that the service bad. For heaven's sake, this is the first resort in world wide that I travel that the staff greet you with smile during the day and night and offering you assistance without needed to be ask. Our room was really wonderful though because we could lie in bed and see the ocean out the window. My boyfriend still says those nights at the Tanjung Rhu were the best night's sleep he has ever had! The beach is great - clean, private and uncrowded and the pool is fantastic. also the food at The Rhu restaurant was so good with live string quartert playing the wonderful music. Also on my boyfriend's birthday I asked if they could do anything so they delivered a cheese cake to our room with candles and a message from me written on it! on that particular night it was pouring rain (a rarity thankfully) and the poor guy still brought it to us - all the staff were so helpful! P.S. Order the Dayang Bunting drinks from the Sunset Pool - the freshest and most succulent drinks ever!!!!
Perfect
Simply unbelievable. We stayed in the cheapest room, which is call Damai, and I just don't feel like coming back home anymore. If the cheapest room is so heavenly, I really wonder how will the more expensive room be. The staff were fantastic, awesome service, and they are really professional when it comes to pampering guest. We have checked out from the resort more than a week now, but we still couldn't stop talking about the wonderful time we had in Tanjung Rhu. And we have just make our reservation again next year.
My first and last experience at Tanjung Rhu
My first trip to the Tanjung Rhu was horrible and completely marred by the bad service attitude and overall substandard experience. Having heard and read such inviting and seemingly great reviews about the place, I decided on a trip there for my first wedding anniversary with my husband, only to be dismayingly disappointed! I have decided that I would never go back to the resort ever! To begin with, I was greeted by a rude and obviously irritated reservation hostess when I attempted to make a reservation at The Rhu resaurant upon my arrival. She was not only unhelpful but totally condescending. As you might have guessed, The Rhu restaurant was fully booked and I was turned away. I proceeded to ask for vacancies over the next couple of nights, only to be nonchalently told that they were unavailable as well. She seemed reluctant to offer more information than asked. I felt almost bad for taking up her time with my meagre request. I reluctantly returned to my room for room service instead. However, the guy who picked up my call, seemed distracted by whatever was happening at the other end of the line. I placed my order, only for it to be greeted by silence. Without any decency to respond to my order, I had to repeat it again, this time more assertively, before he managed an irritated and unmotivated reply. He was, clearly, not paying attention to my order. My food came after an hour, however it was cold and clammy. This is completely unacceptable considering we had paid more money for a suite at the resort than we otherwise would have. If this is the 5 star experience to be offered at the Tanjung Rhu, then I seriously question the 5 star expectations and standards of the management at the Tanjung Rhu!
Truly bad service
Dear Reader: My family spent 7 days in Novemebr 2005 at the resort. The resort clearly does not deserve a 5 star rating. The staff is not attentive and the overall experience is clouded by repetetive negative experiences: - room not cleaned by 2:30 PM even though we left the room at 8:30 AM - running after waiters for coffee in the morning at breakfast - breakfast buffet is below average: long wait for eggs, sweating cheese in the hot air, salmon in the open hot air without cooling. - wherever you want to eat in the evening requires advanced reservation. you are lucky to get a table! - once in the restaurant you can observe guest being turned away even though plenty of tables are available and remain available for the remainder of the evening. - very long wait for food at dinner. In our case it was 75 minutes in one case. we then demanded to speak to the F&B director who came to our table. He responded rather distant that my complaint is not his business and should be addressed to the "Management". If the F&B director is not part of management, I wonder who is? - Leaking water into the room during rain. - No elevators, which meant climbing up 3 flights of stairs in a non-airconditioned stair case in 100% humidity and 30 Celsius. - very poor drinking water quality (lots of chlorine) - very dirty sea water(especially during low tide), which every staff member you ask has a different explanation for. - During a buffett dinner you may get a table assigned and then you sit and wait...and wait for a menu, and some plain water. the opportunity to order any other drink is rare. you have to hunt down the waiters. - the bedsheets had not been changed after 3 days. we asked how often the sheets are supposed to be changed. the answer was: every day. So the same day our sheets were changed. we received sheets with either ketchup or blood stains on them. We have highlighted all of this to the hotel more than once. Many apologies but no change! Concluding I have to say: Please stay away from this resort until the service attitude has changed significantly!
