Great Views

A very enjoyable stay. Practically all the rooms have balconies overlooking the Bay. Try to ensure you get a bay view as the few rooms at the back of the hotel had very indifferent view. Hotel very clean, service OK, position good for beach but a fairly steep climb back . Pool could have done with more sun shades. Most guests were staying all inclusive. We were only there three nights and took advantage of the dinner option. Seven euros for a three course buffet meal with wine included, excellent value. Would certainly stay here again. Bus into Palma just one euro. Visit Palma, wonderful little city, I was pleasantly surprised. Tony Cheshire UK

we have just returned from a very relaxing and enjoyable stay at the blue bay hotel on a bed and breakfast basis. Considering the price we paid to be honest were weren't expecting too much but the hotel surprised us. The staff were friedly and helpful. The room we were in was lovely, clean and comfortable with panoramic views over the bay.The corridors are carpeted which does help to keep the noise to a minimum, the entry to the rooms is by card not key which helps-also. I would say that the breakfast was more than adequate, with a hot buffet - cold buffet - and all the fresh fruit and yoghurt. ( i have a gluten allergy but never went humgry ) Yes there is a steep hill but if you take it steady its not that mammoth a task to climb it.( and it helps to get some calories off!!!) Cala Mayor itself isn't chic or swish but there are some fine little restaurants - and with Palma being so close and the bus service so good you're never far away from 'chic' if you want it - all in all we have really enjoyed the stay and will definitely go back
Lovely Hotel Perfect for 3*

Really nice hotel, great views and nice cool air cnditioning that wasnt too cold. each room has a lovely little balcony and two chairs for late drinks. the staff were a little mixed in their attitudes to helping and the evening food can be left all together - DO NOT GO FULL BOARD THE FOOD ISNT WORTH IT! I would suggest you stay for breakfast though as the food is ok and theres loads of choice plus you cant really go wrong with cereals meat cheese and eggs! The guidebooks arent written in English however if you go to saint augustin high st there is a travel agent who speaks perfect English and can artrange some great excursions. The trip to Inca market is worth a visit.
Really fine place

After reading some of the reviews, I was really worried. Although I only stayed two nights and this was not a main holiday but a few days in the sun to celebrate my mums birthday with my sister. I went with my then 9 month old son. They provided a lovely clean cot in my room, the room was clean - small, yes but who stays in their room? The bathroom was clean and fine too. They have plenty of highchairs too and lots of fruit and milk for breakfast. We did struggle at dinner time though but I had brought some ready made meals just in case. Breakfast was lots of cheeses, meats, breads plus some hot foods. Being all inclusive makes you feel inclined to go back to the hotel to eat for lunch too but part of a holiday is to explore - so that's a downside. The hotel really is on top of a hill, and with a buggy is a bit of a nightmare. Cala mayor is more than the bit from the hotel to the beach and with a bit of walking around you can find some nice cafes, restaurants and shops away from the beach. The people at the hotel were fine, some staff more helpful than others. What I can't explain is the high numbers of (mostly british) tourists that spend every night in the hotel restaurant and bar - the food and entertainment are not worth staying in for, really not. There are so many nice bars and restaurants outside to visit. The partygoers did come back with quite a lot of noise in the early hours, but that's to be expected on holiday. So - don't go fully inclusive and find time to explore instead and you'll find this hotel does the job - I wouldn't stay if you have mobility problems though as it really is a far walk to the hotel up a steep incline. Although there is a regular bus service it isn't that easy to find out where it leaves etc.
Loved the stay at the Blue Bay Hotel
from MO&MIKE
We stayed at the Blue Bay Hotel 4th-11th September 2006 and thoroughly enjoyed the whole time. The Hotel is clean, our sea view room ideal with wonderful views over the Bay of Palma, the staff are friendly, the pool is cleaned each day and a lifeguard is on duty from 10am to 7.30pm, we were well impressed with that. People did moan about the buffet food, but...mostly we found lots to eat that we like, lets face it we were in Spain and certainly did not want the old English food each day. The beach in Cala Mayor is very nice and the hotel mini bus runs up and down hourly to avoid the steps!! Also there is a No6 Bus which goes yards from the entrance right into Palma and back. So all in all we will most certainly return.
very basic

My wife and I have just returned from 7 nights at the Blue Bay Hotel in Cala Mayor. The hotel has some nice qualities but unfortunately quite a few negative points aswell. The hotel is set at the top of a hill and the views from the seaview balconies are absolutely beautiful (the balconies are very small but the views certainly make up for it.) The hotel rooms are a nice size and the air conditioning was excellent which meant that we had some very comfortable nights when the temperature outside was very warm. The swimming pool area was very nice and set in beautiful gardens. On the negative side, the hotel is situated up a steep incline which means that you have to walk up a steep road or about 150 steps to get to it, although a courtesy bus will take you down to the bottom where the shops and beach are and runs about every hour. When we checked in to the room initially we thought the room was clean but when we took a closer look we found crisps in a drawer and very thick dust under the beds which suggests that the rooms aren't cleaned thoroughly. There was no hotel information in the room which we thought was strange and only one plug socket. There are two very small elevators in the hotel, one of which would get stuck between floors on a daily basis and looking at other reviews it seems that this has been a problem for atleast a year. We stayed on an all inclusive basis but the food stops at 21:30 and if you check in after that time they hotel staff will not provide you with anything at all which I think is terrible if you are all inclusive. The bar stays open until midnight but they decided one night to close at ten to, which is very bad if you're all inclusive and have effectively payed for a drinks service until midnight. The afternoon and evening entertainment was awful, no thought or imagination went into it whatsoever. The food in the restaurant was OK but some of the food wasn't labelled so you often weren't sure what you were eating (i wouldn't recommend it if you are vegitarian). Cala mayor it's self isn't really a holiday resort and there isn't much there at all but Palma and Magaluf are only 20 minutes away by taxi. All in all we had a nice week but we wouldn't stay at the Blue Bay again.
Nice and relaxing

Having stayed in Jun 05 too I think this is a great hotel. A very modern hotel with great views overlooking the sea I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking to get away from the stresses of life and relax! My friend and I both in our mid-twenties find this hotel a perfect place to relax by the pool (or beach which is only a 10min walk down the hill). I wouldn't recommend for families/children as the entertainment wasn't particulary good but we were always quite happy with it. Both years we met other people on their holidays and travelled into Palma or Magaluf for a night out or a meal just down the road in Cala Mayor. Perfect! Food was okay - its not gourmet cooking but there was always plenty to eat and I think for the price we paid for the holiday (both years) was great value for money. Highly recommended.
Clean tidy 3* hotel
from racrich
Stayed here for 2 weeks in July as a party of 5. The hotel is very very clean. The food wasn't great for the first week, neither was the entertainment, but once we hit higher season everything picked up. Refuse a bedroom at the back of the hotel, they are very small and almost impossible to even get your cases in and turn around, rooms to the front have lovely views out to sea. We experience problems with the lifts with people getting stuck regularly. Cala Mayor isn't the most beautiful of locations, but the beach is nice and clean. The beach is more like 1km away at the bottom of steep hill, take advantage of the free mini-bus that runs on the hour to get down and back. Cala Mayor is on the direct bus route for Palma Nova and Magaluf and a taxi fare to is around 10euro so the location is handy. All in all a neat tidy 3* hotel with friendly staff.
not to bad

Blue Bay Hotel Cala Mayor is about 500m from the beach and if you have a room at the front it is a very nice view. Food is ok’ish “very ish” but will get very boring if you are there for more than a week. The hotel is spotless and although we were there for it’s last week of the season the staff were fine “even though they were about to become unemployed!” It is not best placed if you don’t want an uphill walk at the end of a day at the beach but they do provide a free mini bus all day. The local town is very residential and to be honest a bit dull. But if you want a peaceful week in the sun with a nice pool it will do just fine. Don’t expect 5 stars from a 3 star and you will do ok, evenings in the bar can be a bit dull if you are on your own and yes they do seem to love the bingo but like anything you do with your other half, if you get on with other people you will make your own entertainment. We went in Oct. and it rained for 3 days, very dull! And only Euro Sport in English on the room TV! “they should upgrade the sat. TV” We had a nice time and met some nice people, but we would have booked a flight home if the weather had not picked up.
Very Clean Hotel
from A TripAdvisor Member
Just come back from a week here (although sent to Magaluf for the first 3 days due to water damage in the hotel in some rooms) and the hotel is really clean and presentable. Most of the staff are nice, apart from the really grumpy poolside barman! The rooms are really clean, and nicely decorated. Around the pool is nice, plenty of room and lots of sun loungers. Always lots of loungers free and it is hotel policy that you can't just reserve them with your towels in the morning which was great. There are lots of steps however to get to and from the pool, but there is a ramp for part of the way for people with pushchairs. Food was ok, nothing spectacular and never particularly hot. But the dining room is nice and clean and again, the staff are friendly. As the hotel is on top of a hill, there are millions of steps or a really steep hill to climb to get to and from Cala Mayor. There is a free beach bus though daily which makes going to the beach easier. The one negative thing about the hotel is the evening entertainment. There really isn't much. The bar area is really smoky, and there is only so much bingo a person can take. Not much happens and there aren't many nice bars in Cala Mayor either. The bar closes at midnight too so most people are off to bed then. Hotel really is fine, if you are looking for a quiet relaxing time, maybe one to avoid if you are looking for lively evening entertainment.
