Hi have just returned from this excellent Hotel in a great central location, it is very clean the staff are extremely friendly and helpful, the food is great and plentiful with lots of different salads and sweets yum. The location is great, near the beach only a short distance from the historical ruins, harbour and town centre there is a land train close by which takes you to the centre if you don't want to walk or dolmus passing by all the time. We cant fault this hotel at all, so don't believe all the negative comments or bad reviews you read, go and try it for yourself it is excellent value for money and we would definitely recommend it and wouldn't hesitate to return. the staff are fantastic and really make you welcome so thanks to Ozkan, Mehmet, Ismail, Ramazan and everyone at the Kervan for making our holiday so enjoyable. Good Points: Excellent location 15 mins old town, 5 mins local beach. Free shuttle service to Dolphin beach (other side of town) with free sun loungers. Spotlessly clean hotel, pool area very good. Staff very friendly (especially to kids). Food fair to good. Popular with Russian, Polish & German tour companies as well as British. Turkish baths in hotel excellent & the masseuse really knows her job.
Local eateries: Lots in easy walking distance, Baris restaurant on corner opposite (1 min) excellent for authentic Turkish food at low prices (kebabs & pides). Mehmet's on same road as hotel (1 min) family friendly, Turkish pan, hot pot, steak & fish excellent.
Kingfisher pub (5 min) friendly & cheap pub type restaurant.
Bad points: The hotel operates a no cash policy so all bills totted up by room number & paid at end of week which leaves room for error if wrong room number put on computerised system. Make sure you pay daily as when you leave if there is a discrepancy in what you think you owe they will NEVER leave it in your favour no matter how little & will stop you from leaving at the last minute.

Clean hotel, helpful, friendly staff. Not much in the way of entertainment but enough going off in close proximity.
Large pool with children's section, again, very clean.
Breakfast is wonderful with a variety of choices. Also a poolside bar with extensive menu. Reasonably priced.
Side is a warm and friendly place. Had an enjoyable week. Definitely go again.

The Kervan is one of Side's older hotels with approx 50 rooms. That said we found staff and guests more friendly than those of larger, better rated hotels.
The building is 4 story, the reception and entrance/exit to road level is on level 3. THERE ARE NO LIFTS .. so beware those with health problems or walking difficulties!
The swimming pool and restaurant are on level 1, so an ideal level maybe level 2: only one level to go either way.
Ritz hotel this is not. We booked knowing this was rated as 3star, so we were not expecting too much.
However, Kervan is tidy and clean, well maintained and decorated.
The rooms are basic but are cleaned to avery high standard every day, including a complete change of bed linen and towels.
The swimming pool has used some sort of floor tiling that does not get red hot to walk on, very welcome when you walk from sunbed to pool, or need to adjust your sunbed.
In-hotel entertainment when we stayed was crap/non existant. The pool side beer was undrinkable, all the other guests I spoke to agreed.
Now as far as the food goes, we were Half board; we always found something to eat, but both breakfast and evening food were a very lack lustre, bland experience (definately no ice sculptures or chef hand carving here!)
But adequate if you did not wish to venture out to eat.
Hotel location is very good: 20 mins stroll to Dolphin beach-free sunbeds. 20 mins stroll along the promenade into Side resaurants, bars/shops and harbour area .. although not unspoilt Turkey; for it is very commercialised, thoroughly enchanting.
And yes you will get pestered as you walk past shops but it does seem a lot less than previously experienced. Apparently (so a waiter was telling me) If they are reported for nuisance:
First offence, they get a warning.
Second report 30,000 Lire fine.
Third report closed down for 2days
..a new mayor is trying to make good impressions.
BIG QUESTION ...would we go back again?
YOU BETCHA WE WOULD!! Overall A Good Hotel, Plenty to see and do in and around Side!
