Now we've stayed here for the 3rd time now so we know what it's like both decent and bad points and consider ourselves not too fussy when it comes to get-what-you-pay-for-holidays. But everyone who goes here must be told of the disturbing trend of light fingered thieves... more

This hotel was lovely, we stayed there for a girls holiday, all 13 of us and i have to say, it was quite wonderful. This only negative comment I have is the strictness of the staff, break a rule, and you're out! Other than that the bar and pool staff were lovely and... more

I stayed at this hotel for 10 days and only realised just before going that it was only a 2 star hotel, direct holidays advertised it as 3 stars. The rooms are really dated like most hotel/apartments abroad. The beds were unsleepable on because they were that flimsy and... more

I don't want to knock this apart-hotel too much as you get what you pay for I suppose. The apartments (if you get a refurbished one) are bright and well fitted with plenty of room and large balconies. If you're imginative you can get by with the 2 hobs provided to cook... more

Do not stay here!!!
Whilst the apartments has a great location i have never experienced such an appalling stay ever! Myself and a few other lads aged 18+ stayed here for one week in july! For being in the centre of Playa del ingles next door to nightclubs such as cream and the Kasbah centre the staff were incredibly abusive to us for returning in the early hours of the morning! We were well behaved throughout with the mild exception of singing songs along the street at night time! After all the resort is swarming with teenagers lookin for a good time! The staff were both verbally and physically abusive to some of our party! when reported to the manager she couldnt care less! we were accused to have damaged the property and were shouted at and humiliated in public! It was later discovered that the damage was caused by another group unrelated to us and no apology was given!! No guests are allowed back to your apartment only people stayin in the resort! 4 out of 5 apartments we occupied had cockroaches!! No joke! The service was disgraceful and we were treated with absolute contempt for no apparent reason!! Under any circumstances do NOT stay at the corona blanca!!!!! this is 100% genuine!
just apity the hotel was not in playa de ingles
I cannot fault the hotel itself. Very clean, great rooms, central to Playa de ingles, close to the beach. However I was less than impressed by the resort of Playa de Ingles. It tends to have an awful lot of potential dangers, ie scamsters, pick pockets etc. Also you are frequently badgered and harrassed by those trying to get you into their bars, they will not take no for an answer and will follow you. As soon as youve got rid of one unwelcome annoyance another appears with their little leaflets for another seedy pub. There's a great selection of shops however as soon as you even glance at something on sale the shopkeeprs hassle you into offering them a price, have they never heard of browsing? This all made the Playa de ingles experience quite bad and I'll never return to this resort. It is definately NOT a family resort. and I would advise all of those planning to vist to think again or just be very careful when ther.As for the hotel........it's a pity you couldnt lift it and put it up the road in the more tranquil and relaxed san augustin.
first class
Just spent two lovely weeks at the Corona Blanca accompanied by my wife. The apartments themselves were comfortable, spacious and well maintained by a friendly cleaning staff. The reception staff were very accommodating and dealt efficiently with any queries we had. We were aware, through reading previous reviews, of traffic noise from the road. However, this was a small price to pay for the convenience of the location. The pool area is pleasant and well served by a snack bar. The adjoining Rimini restaurant is worth a visit ,both for the food and the panache of the waiters. We would go back to the Corona Blanca , even allowing for the noise.
Great apartments
CORONA BLANCA Me and my girlfriend stayed here between 28th july and 11th august. overall the apartments are very clean, and pleasing on the eye. the pool is of a decent size and there are plenty of sun loungers for everyone. on the down side we did see quite a few cockroaches including the one i was chasing around our bathroom at 3am. There is a tv in the room which you need to pay for costing 1 euro for 1 hour. our tv was off for most of our stay as the aerial was down. The pool side bar is good and offers good food and drink at a reasonable price.. The staff are all very friendly and the maids change towels etc every 2nd day. The apartments are situated right in the heart of the nightlife, where you can find the kasbah, plaza and irish centres. PLAYA DEL INGLES The actual resort is very nice and there are plenty to see and do both during the day and at night. Just watch out as most of the bars etc bring you 2 drinks when you ask for one and say its "happy hour", then proceed to charge you 15 euro for a pint of beer and vodka and coke so effectively its just a way of getting you to buy minimun 2 drinks which they bring at once and so you need to drink quick to avoid one getting hot. most place will try to rip you off, shops etc so beware, i've never experinced anything like it. The beach is very clean and busy. i would advise a go on the jet ski as it was excellent... 50 euro's for 2 people lasting 20 mins. the P.R guys are a real pain and can be quite rude so watch out for them, they are EVERYWHERE.We never went to the yumbo centre at night because although we were told its full of gays, who keep thereselves to therselves, we were told by others it was pretty full on and over the top. we did go during the day where it is a shopping centre with not much to do EATING There are loads of excellent places to eat and every meal we had during 2 weeks was fantastic (exept the chinese buffet next to the kasbah centre, so avoid that). I would highly recommend the mexican steak house just next to the kasbah, the food was brilliant. also mama rosa was excellent and friendly service. Rockin Jock's which is on ave de italia is also excellent and i promise once you go once, you'll go back as the staff are very friendly and accomidating, and food and drink are all very cheap and of high standards. Give it a go and see if im wrong! PUERTO RICO If you're going to puerto rico for the day dont go near the shops near the beach, they're a bigger rip off than Playa del ingles. the staff begin very friendly and once we handed over 70 euro for a camera which they described as very good with eveything you need, then proceeded to tell us it was actual crap with small battery life and no built in light etc....however they did have another camera which did have these features for only 90 euro more (clever eh). we refused and requested our money back which we were told NO!! they then became very cheeky and insultive, even threatening. They wouldn't even give us the crappy camera we had just bought and said it was worth alot more. We argued it out for about 45 mins before another couple came in and realising they might miss another sale gave us 40 euro back and a pair of binoculars!!!!needless to say i advised the other couple to get out anyway so i had the last laugh, they were raging, shouting abuse. We went on the glass bottom boat here too which was quite good, plenty of fish to see if thats you're thing. PALMITOS PARK/ AQUA LAND Unfortunately we arrived in gran canaria at the time whem some idiot started forrest fires (which he got 30 years for...now thats justice)so palmitos park had burned to the ground and wont be open for a year. we decided to go to aqua land on the second last day but the bus didn't turn up so we left it, only to find out on the way home from holiday that it was only 6 euros in a taxi...DOH!!! OVERALL This was a pleasant holiday which was ruined a bit by everyone ripping you off. the apartments were spot on so if you're going to these apartment dont worry, they're fine. If i was going back to gran canaria i would go to these apartments but i wont be back for a while as it just wasn't as good as my previous holidays to majorca, so i'll be sticking to there from now on
Excellent if on a budget
My sister and I stayed here the last week in June 2007 and absolutely loved it. We travelled with sunways.ie and the thomos cook rep's looked after us when we arrived. The apartment we stayed in was spotless and the hotel staff were lovely. The pool was beautiful and very clean with lots of chairs so that anyone who wanted one got one. The cleaning staff clean the apartments every second day and do a great job at it. It's location is also an advantage. It's 5mins walk from the Kasbah centre (English centre) and about a 10mins walk, if even, from the Irish Centre. You do have to pay for the T.V. but who wants to be sitting in front of that all day when you've such a great pool outside. €1 will give you 1hr of T.V. For anyone wondering, there is a fridge in the kitchenette area which is really handy for storing breakfast food and keeping water cool. The groups that I saw staying there were varied with older people, families with kids, to groups of guys and girls. I hope this helps you make your decision.
Lovely Apartment, Brilliant Location
My sister and I stayed in the Corona Blanca at the end of June this year. The apartments are lovely and really well kept. The staff were very helpful and friendly. We had no problems what so ever while we were staying there. I would recommend a lower level apartment because if was just easier on the first floor to get to the pool. The pool was clean and well maintained and there were people of all age regions staying there.
Great hotel on a budget
We stayed in this hotel at the beginning of June in room 305 which wasn't overlooking the pool but over looking the main road. This does mean that any rooms on this side of the building are subject to traffic noise, which can be noisy at times as it is a main route for the Global Buses, and they operate until early hours of the morning. I would ensure that on booking you ask for a pool view room as these are much quieter. That being said the room was pleasant, clean and tidy. The maids came in every other day to change bedding and towels, and to empty the bins. Did have a problem with the hob however as there was an intermitent fault which caused the fuses to trip on a couple of occasions, but these were fixed quickly. You would expect all facilities to be included with the hotel being self catering but there were some items you could have for an extra charge available from reception, such as a toaster for €12 per week. The reception area is exceptional. The majority of the staff speak very good english (even one member of staff is english) and are friendly and polite. There is also a Bureau de Change on reception which offers a reasonable rate of exchange. Safety deposit boxes are available from reception too for a small charge, €12 for the rental and €12 deposit which you get back on returning the lock. The hotel is located around the corner from one of the busier commercial centres, the Kasbah and this comes to life around 11pm. Touts for the clubs can be nuiscance but once you've said no to a few they soon get the idea. There is a taxi rank opposite the Kasbah and I would say to anyone visiting don't bother hiring a car, unless you're off up into the mountains or something, as the taxis are very cheap. Only cost €2.50 to get to the Yumbo. The restaurants are numerous around the hotel and Kasbah centre and you really are spoilt for choice. Some very nice Chinese/Thai buffet style ones and several steak houses. We visited El Gaucho on recommendation from our rep. Go for a steak or mixed grill dish. My partner had the chicken and it wasn't all that good. My fillet steak was cooked to perfection. We had starters, a main meal each, desert and a couple of drinks and it was just over €20 each including the tip. All in all a very nice hotel and good area to stay in, and if we were to visit Gran Canaria again and be staying in the Playa del Ingles area, we would definately consider a stay in the Corona Blanca.
Above average budget hotel.
We stayed in the Corona Blanca in room 217. This is on the third level overlooking the pool and I can recommend it. We found the hotel to be reasonably quiet, ( There is always someone who insists on coming home late.) Very clean and bright with friendly staff, towels changed regularly etc'. The hotel is close to the resorts amenities. There is a 'money change' just around the corner, which was a plus. Restaurants and bars abound. The terrific beach is 10 mins away and the long refurbished promenade is a great place for a stroll. Visit the Kasbah market and try the Padaban restaurant, unpretentious reasonably priced and with great food. The Chinese/Asian buffet bars are a good deal particularly for families. (Two excellent ones are down on the beach.) All you can eat for 6.95 euros with kids at 3.95 euros. What the Corona Blanca/resort is like at the height of the holiday season I can't say but we found it a pleasant visit in February. Dave.
Great budget accommodation
We had booked online in to the Parquemar Apartments but they said they had not received our booking. We then had to go walking around Playa del Ingles looking for a place to stay for 5 nights. Everywhere was booked up (or tied to an agent). Finally we tried Corona Blanca and were more than happy with our apartment. For only 54 euros a night we got a ground floor apartment looking out on the pool. Good size and facilities, quiet and cleaned every day. Check out is 12noon so still got a lie in on the last day. Reception took care of our luggage in the office and were more than happy for us to continue to use the hotels facilities. Highly recommended for those on a budget.
Ask for a low level floor if staying her
We arrived in Playa Del Ingles on 31st July, we arrived at Los Salmones initially which was an absolute dump so eventually got moved to the Corona Blanca. This is a nice hotel, with nice pool facilities. If you want a central location, this is it - it is right next to the Kasbah centre and the Plaza and just 5 mins from the Irish Centre. As it is in the centre, at night time is does tend to get quite noisy, which isn't a problem if you are out. However, if you get back before the nightlife shuts, bout 5am it is very difficult to sleep. We were on the top floor (level 8) and it was very difficult to get any sleep. However, if you are on the lower levels the noise doesn't seem to travel that far asit is more built up. The hotel is also on a main road, so it would be better to request a room that is not on the main road side so it will be a bit quieter. All in all, it was a nice hotel, very clean, friendly staff. Just beware of the street sellers, we were plagued by these girls who kept coming to our apartments trying to sell us bar crawls - they were there everyday and really annoying. Ps if your looking for a nice beach, tip is to go to ANFI - this is a private development, but a public man made beach. You can go for free with your tour operator if you are a family or over 30 as they want to get you to tour the private development. However, you can get the number 39 bus to Puerto Rico, (bus stop next to Corona Blanca) which stops outside ANFI, for about 2 Euros and takes about 30 mins. Worth a visit as the beach is nicer than Playa Del Ingles and Maspalomas.
