This is the third time I have been to Gran Canari but the first time I have stayed at Corona Blanca. Can I say it was by far the best I have stayed in.
As a gay couple we were treated NO different to the other guests and was made to feel comfortable all the time. 'gay friendly'.
It was very very clean, the staff friendly and helpful and near the Yumbo centre.
Yes there was a few noisy guests but they never bothered us so we didn't mind.
on the odd occasion we ate at the complex the food was lovely and quite reasonable, although again I would definately reccomend going to the local supermarket (5 mins away) for your water, food, beer ETC.
The maid came 3 times in the 7 days we stayed there and cleaned are room and changed the towels.
The only negative I would say is you had to hire the toaster out for 12 euro (With 10 euro deposit) for the week but thats it.
We are definately booking to go again to Corona Blanca next May.
Just one note: Instead of paying nearly 3 euros for a Tropical beer at the pool bar in the complex, go to the nearest supermarket and pay 75 cents, you have your own clean fridge and you can bring it down to the pool. nothing was ever said to us but we didn't flaunt it either. We never understood why the guests paid stupid money. We wasn't on a budget but it was silly to see the guests paying tripple the price for a beer.

This hotel was lovely, we stayed there for a girls holiday, all 13 of us and i have to say, it was quite wonderful. This only negative comment I have is the strictness of the staff, break a rule, and you're out! Other than that the bar and pool staff were lovely and friendly and the cleaners were a laugh, they even did our washing up! The rooms were comfortable and clean and the living area was large enough for 13 of us to fit in there before we left the place on a night out. It is VERY central so very handy to get to and from the centre. also only about a 10 minute walk from the beach. Cant fault it really!

I stayed at this hotel for 10 days and only realised just before going that it was only a 2 star hotel, direct holidays advertised it as 3 stars. The rooms are really dated like most hotel/apartments abroad. The beds were unsleepable on because they were that flimsy and they were twin beds. We had to drag the matresses on to the balcony because it was absolutely impossible to sleep inside as it was too hot and there was NO AIR CONDITIONING. On a better note though you get what you pay for, for a 2 star they were good and they were clean. It DEFINETLY ISNT A HOTEL/APARTMENT FOR A COUPLE, its perfect for a group of lads or lasses but personally id rather go to magaluf or Ibiza because all the (clubs were tiny) if I was going on that kind of holiday. Its handy because the hotel is right next to everything but this makes it ABSOLUTELY IMPOSSIBLE TO SLEEP, people were screaming and arguing till half 6 in the morning and the traffic outside was so loud and then builders started at 8:00am. Night times were an absolute nightmare. All the glass in the hotel is single glazed which dosent give you a feeling f safeness it would of been really easy for someone to slide the windows open and come in if they wanted to. There not much in the hotel except for a swimming pool which was always quite busy and a shop selling the usual grease on holiday. I would definelty NOT STAY HERE AGAIN.

I was a bit unsure about going to GC as im a total ibiza lover....but after a bit of persuasion on my friends part we booked for 2 weeks in the corona blanca....it was without a doubt, the best experience ever! It may just have been because we are both young and not ugly....but we had such a cheap holiday, only paid for about 2 drinks the whole time we were there.
the apartments were crackin.cleaned everyday, new towels and bed linen...the cleaners did our dishes from our 4am snacks after the very very short walk home from 'Chic' aka Cream....
so close to the bars its unbelievable....close enuf to nip home and change out of stilletos at 2am before going to cream til 6! despite being so close there was next to no noise.....! no air con, but we were lucky enuf to get a pool view room and when the balcony doors were open and the front door was open it was like a wind tunnel and air con wasnt needed.the night time receptionist/security man is a total legend...nicest guy ever if ur on his good side. rimini restaurant downstairs, really good food....very sleazy waiter!!!!!
Pool was imaculate....cleaned daily and enough sunbeds for everyone, and a man on tap for poolside massages! the only reason i didnt give it a 10 was because we had one cockroach on the very last night at about 4am and we nearly had a heart attack.....but one in 14 nights is pretty incredible.
i would recommend this holiday and apartments to anyone....not telling u which room tho incase u want to go same time as us next year!!!!!!!!

I don't want to knock this apart-hotel too much as you get what you pay for I suppose. The apartments (if you get a refurbished one) are bright and well fitted with plenty of room and large balconies. If you're imginative you can get by with the 2 hobs provided to cook with, as eating out was not much of an option considering a £1=1euro, but this is not Corona Blanca's fault.
If you want a swim (in the rather nice pool) you had better be quick because from around 8.00am you will find most sunbeds have towels placed on them, and the complex appears to be popular with young, loud Spanish groups who then monopolise the pool and surrounding area in the afternoons.
Maybe it is a symptom of the current financial troubles, but I found it extremely dispiriting to be faced with crowds of touts/drug dealers/prostitutes every time i walked out of the apartments after 7pm. This is particularly a problem around the Kasbah and Metro centres and i much preferred the more relaxed atmosphere of the Yumbo Centre which is only a 10 minute walk away.
As for noise, unless you are out every night until 4-5am yourself, then don't expect much sleep. The complex and the one neighbouring it seem to capture the music, riotous shrieking, Kareoke, etc, from the Metro centre and amplify it all up to your room. (Its not so bad on the street!) Everything is amplified into just one huge throbbing noise that could loosen your fillings, it must be the buildings acoustics. It really set my last nerve on edge.
If what you are looking for is a cheap place to get ready for, and recover from your party nights out, then i'd recommend Corona Blanca. If you want a relaxing time I would not, nor would I recommend Playa Del Ingles for that matter. I stayed in Maspalomas last year and loved it.

Spent a week in Corona Blanca in May.
Pros:
Location - walking distance to Kasbah, beach, restaurants, clubs. Only a 5euro taxi ride to the market and Aqualand water park.
Quiet complex for families & children's pool.
Cons:
Pool bar almost non-existent. So had effectively nowhere to socialise within the apartments and this caused Corona Blanca to lack holiday atmosphere.
Very strict on noise etc, sometimes overly so.
Reception not the friendliest.
Found a cockroach in our bedroom!
As regards the general Playa del Ingles area, it is tacky and the promotions satff are extremely ittitating and intimidating, to the point where one would not want to venture out of the apartment complex. Wayerpark is good, if slightly overpriced.Beach is georgous, but agin, prepare to be hassled.

Had a lovely time at the Corona Blanca, lovely big pool area and great poolside bar for snacks and drinks. The weather was a little bit disapointing as there was cloud for the last part of the week, but dont be fooled as i got burnt on the last day even tho there was no sun out. The overall accomodation was great, good kitchen area. Maid's turned out bed and gave fresh towels every other day it was kept spotless. The only disapointing thing about the holiday was the resort itself, i was a bit wary of going to such a large resort and i should have trusted my instincts. The hotel was next to a large commercial centre, we didnt hear any noise from it at all which was a relief, just the drunk Irish walking around the resort woke us up a few times a night. Myself and my partner felt quite threatend and utterly frustrated that we couldnt just browse around in the evening, some of the bar promotion guys followed quite a few times around the shops and pestered us continually so, we returned to the hotel with our own beer and sat on the balcony most evenings, i was also approached by the women who sit down by the beach and wait to tie bits of rope around your wrist and demand money, we again decided not to return to the beach due to this and stayed at the hotel poolside, which had free sunbeds, beach sunbeds at 7.50 e a day. We made a trip to Mogan market and it was a beautiful town and we both said we wish we would have stayed there instead, we wont be retuning to Playa Del Ingles for sure, but maybe one day we will return to a more easy going part of Gran Canaria.

Having been stuck in the cold British weather over the summer months we decided to take our little boy away for his first trip on a plane over the half term holidays. We booked cheap, well as cheap as possible on a half term break, and expected cheap when we arrived.
This was not the case!! The apartments were lovely. Very clean, house keeping were in our room within hours of us checking in to see if we needed fresh towels and the bins emptying etc, and after this they cleaned our room 4 times in the week we were there. There were no bugs at all, not even flys! The apartment was huge, and it was very much appriciated that my son got a camp bed instead of us having to keep folding away the sofa bed every morning and getting it out again at night!!
The reception staff were excellent, very good english and helped us with our many bus journeys around the island to explore.
The hotel has computers in the reception with internet access and even games! (not that we used these, we were on holiday!)
The commercial centres were within minutes of the hotel. The noise at night was minimal and i only noticed the traffic on one morning and it wasnt enough to keep me awake.
There is a spar next to the hotel which is very useful. The beach was about 5 minutes walk away, and it was well situated for taxi ranks and bus stops.
The only downside is there being no courtesy room. We booked our room for an extended check out for about 25 euros, worth it as we werent getting picked up until 6.30pm.
I would recommend a trip to Aqualand and Palmitos Park in Maspolomas, and the Friday night show at Sioux City is fabulous, plenty to do and a fabulous BBQ!! We also took a bus up to Puerto Rico for a boat trip as ours got cancelled due to rough seas and the beach there was lovely. A quite little cove, hardly any current and clear waters, great for children.
If you are looking for a holiday with plenty to do day and night in an excellent apartment look no further. My only problem is now i'll be comparing any other hotel we stay in to the Corona Blanca's great standards!

I'm fussy when it comes to hotels and I didn't expect luxury when I booked it, however I was over the moon with our stay at the Corona Blanca. When we arrived, the man behind reception was extrememly friendly, everything was ready in an envelope for us and they'd even put a 2 litre bottle of water in the fridge. The hotel room was immaculate, sofa and arm chair, massive balcony with a sea view, shower was nice and the bed's were extremely comfortable. Location was perfect, 1 minute away from Kasbar and 5 minutes from Grand Chaparalle and Yumbo Centre. The beach was only a few minutes away, it was ideal. The only downside and thats me clutching at straws, was the traffic first thing in the morning was a bit noisy, however I'd packed some ear plugs, so it wasn't a problem for me!!!!!! I would most definetly stay in the Corona Blanca again.

Now we've stayed here for the 3rd time now so we know what it's like both decent and bad points and consider ourselves not too fussy when it comes to get-what-you-pay-for-holidays. But everyone who goes here must be told of the disturbing trend of light fingered thieves mingling with guests in the pool area. They use the adjacent Cafe de Paris as an easy means of entry/exit. They look like hotel guests...generally single guys, black caps, plain black rucksacks, shades kinda thing (I know could be anyone and that's the point). Anyway if you don't tether your bag with luxuries or worse still documents etc down to the loungers then they will be taken if you are targeted even when you are on the lounger. They rely on blind spots and sunbathing like you are sleeping. If this should happen you will be left to fend for yourself by TC Group reps and main office so just beware...my wife and I know all about the consequences and offer no more than sincere words of caution and wisdom. The hotel staff are generally helpful but they can be otherwise distracted so again don't rely on them. Sounds a little bitter but there is that left over taste from such an experience. GC used to be a little more respectful of holidaymakers instead it's more like the rudeness associated with Tenerife now.
