The hotel had not seen a make over since 1970. Rooms were foisty and grotty. Bird muck on balcony. Staff were (excepting a few nice waiters and waitresses) arrogant and awkward. This is so not a five star hotel. Food was ok. Given that it caters for the majority of... more

I was eagor to have a nice holiday with my family in a five star hotel.
Didn't happen. The hotel is dirty, the bar is a mess and the people are just not helpfull.
I was suposed to be there for 9 nights. I checked out after the second.
I sincerely wish the best of luck to the people that wish to have a nice holyday in Onura Hotel.

The honest truth
If you're used to 5* accommodation and its afforded luxury then this is definately not the hotel for you. It comes nowhere near the standard of hotels in the uk or even the likes of egypt, morocco etc. Apart from that I'd say its good value for money. Ok so the pool is small and gets overcrowded rather quickly but the hotel's Animation Club do a really good job by organising activities and challenges throughout the day. The atmosphere poolside is great. The standard of the rooms is very basic but the staff are all really nice and the standard of the food offered is much higher than expected, quite delicious actually. So overall, for the price you pay you actually get a reallygood deal.
Awfull
Have just arrived back from the Onura after spending two weeks all inclusive there. Be warned that this hotel is not and I stress not a 5 star hotel, at the very most it should be classed as a 3 star!!!!! On arrival in the early hours of Saturday morning the 7th June, warning bells should have rung when it took us all of 5 minutes to check in. We were shown to our room on the 3rd floor after having walked along a corridor which was carpeted and stained! The room was also carpeted and stained and not even vaccumed, the furniture is sad old and has seen better days and to cap it all our balcony was covered with bird droppings from the swifts who have nested in the alcoves all around the hotel. I know we can not prevent mother nature taking it's course but the cleaners could try and keep on top of it after we complained the balcony was cleaned once in our two week stay! The dinning room, what can one say. There is no toaster and the choice at breakfast is very basic. A chef will make you an omlette with cheese, no mushrooms or ham, there are 2 types of boiled eggs and of course scrambled, in the cereal department you are offered what looks like cornflakes, natural or chocolate variety. No I do not expect a full english breakfast like you can get at home but abit more choice would be nice. Lunch and dinner are no better. There was always rice, oven chips, a good range of salads, but very little meat selection and the food was never hot. I and my friend are not fussy eaters and do like to try local dishes, I myself am a fish lover but that appeared only twice whilst we were there in the form of trout. In a 5 star you would expect beach towels to use for the pool or beach, when we asked, we were told to obtain them from the saun area located down stairs, this would take 5 minutes of haggerling with the staff as their only interest is to get you to pay for a turkish bath. The sun loungers have very few mattresses, which makes them very uncomfortable to lie on if you were not down early enough to obtain one and the pool area is very packed. I'm not against entertainment around the pool but they need to reduced the volume of music, my walkman saw the light of day once as when I tried to listen to it I had the volume up to max to drown out the noise from the pool area and nearly burst my ear drums. The beach is slightly better, there is sand but to get into the sea you must navigate rocks or jump off the pier. "The second restraurant" half way down to the beach is very sad. Lumps of plaster missing, flaking paint and all that was on offer to eat were cardboard burgers, oven chips or pizza. Mineral water a must in over 30 degrees, is given to you daily in the form of a little bottle. The rest of the day is up to you to fill them up by the bar and as you can guess if everyone is filling their little bottles there is no chance for the water to be nice and cool. The rep Alex will look after you very well...NOT!!!!!! His only interest is in selling you all the excursions. He will of course listen to all your moans and agree with you that even he doesn't think the Onura should be classed as a 5 star hotel, but when we asked for his help to move us to another hotel, he shook his head, shrugged his shoulders and said you must ring your tour operator in the UK as it's nothing to do with him! A large mobile phone bill and an extra couple of hundred pounds later we most probably could have been moved if we could have got in contact with ours but three attempts and with both of us only using pay as you go mobiles we gave up, but in Alex's words, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR which having asked a few other British holiday makers staying in the hotel varied greatly. I could go on but a comment should only be a comment with regards to your stay at a certain hotel. The Onura needs a team with vision and lots of cash for it ever to be classed as a 5 Star hotel, in it's hay day it may well have been the jewel in the crown of Kusadasi but for my money The Grand Blue Sky another 5 Star hotel just down the road which we have stayed at will beat it every time. My friend and I have travelled extensively and I have never felt so strongly enough about a stay in a hotel to write about it good or bad but all other hotels we have previously stayed at have lived up to their Star rating, so please all you tour operators that use the Onura, send some one over there and down grade it untill it can claim to be what it's not at present.
Not that bad!
Got back home last night and had to write this review to put peoples minds at rest. I read some of the reviews below and was a little worried about going but there was really no need to be! Yes the hotel is not 5* standard but at the price that you pay to stay there, what do you expect?! Looking at British standards i would be more inclined to rate the hotel at 3/4*. I read all the reviews before I went and had an idea of what to expect....luckily my expectations were exceeded! I was shocked to find people complaining at the hotel because it was not the 5* luxury they were expecting! Always make sure you read the reviews! Now as for the beach, it isnt your average beach...but i liked it. There are 2 big piers stretching into the sea that are great to sunbathe in. The only downside is that if you want to go for a dip in the water you have to throw yourself off the pier - great for kids but not so for adults! Nevertheless you are not confined to the hotel beach and you can walk along it and find a nicer area if you like. Most of the other hotels dont mind you passing through their beaches. The pool is often full and you need to get there early for a sunbed but the beach will always have free sunbeds - it didnt seem to get too busy. The animation team are always around the pool and can be a bit annoying but i guess thats just what you have to expect out there! The thing that bemused me was that all the entertainment was for adults - there was only one member of staff assigned to children. I dont think that the hotel is suited to young children at all and would strongly advise that you dont take them. Ages 10 up would probably be ok. There are a lot of steps that can get a bit slippy so its how much you trust your children to be careful. The food on the whole was great - a bit repetitive at times but never failed to deliver. I could not fault the food/drink situation apart from the fact that the food wasnt always labelled so if you have specific food requirements you may struggle to find out whats available to you. There was the buffet 3times a day and also a restaurant by the pool that served turkish pizza, hamburgers, spaghetti and chips between 10am and 5pm. There was always entertainment in the evening and also a disco that started at 23.15. Something that you will find is that the rooms on the higher floors are much nicer than those lower down and this is because the hotel has to compensate for the fact that the disco is on the roof. So when you get there you have the choice of a not so nice but quiet room or a nicer but musicfilled bedroom. I was on the topfloor and although the disco was loud at times it didnt bother me too much and I was more than happy with the room. I know others on the lower floors had asked to change rooms more than 3times!! The hotel is ideally situated from Kusadasi centre and is about 5-10mins on the dolmus at 80p a ride. Also if you are flying into Bodrum airport you are looking at a transfer time of 2hrs - not too bad! The onura is usually the first drop off. To finish off, if you are someone who is looking for a cheap package holiday with sun, sea and sand then this is your place! Plenty of things to keep you busy - watersports, excursions, entertaiment - and there is a great little spa where i paid 35euros for a turkish bath, oil massage, face mask and massage and balneo therapy and you could use the sauna and indoor pool!Great value!! If you are someone looking for a cheap family holiday i think it could be a bit of a hit or miss...i definitely wouldnt recommend it to anyone with young children!! Children around the ages of 10-15 would be fine...any younger and you'll find yourself in a constant worry! I'd suggest you look at some of the other hotels before committing to this one just so you could be sure you would be happy! Thanks for taking the time to read this, I hope it helps you all!!
Hated the onura!!!!!
THIS HOTEL IS REALLY AWFUL. We read other write ups and thought it cant be that bad. TRUST ME IT IS!! The air-con in our room was broken making sleeping an impossibility. The private "Beach" was a sqaure of sand bounded by a concrete pier, small and dirty. The Pool was packed, with constant LOUD rave music, mostly in Turkish. Never able to get a Sunbed. Have to pay for a lounger mattress. A smell of raw sewage engulfs the hotel, mainly near the Pool. The staff were impolite at best, and i noted that some smoked and drank alcohol whilst cooking. (Not best practice). Our rooms were filthy and substandard. Showerhead was broken. Bathroom floor not mopped all week. Best of all we had a rat in our room. Had to be moved because of this. Ended up in 4 different rooms in a week. Food basic and not up to 5* standard. Meatballs and chips most nights?? In Gym most equipment broken. Ads said 6 pools, only has 3. We will never be back. Complained to Rep asking a move without success.
Not a place for kids
Having just read the previous review i must say if you are going to this hotel as a couple you will be fine, if you are going with kids it is a nightmare.... To start, the hotel is NOT child friendly, over 140 steps with no hand rails to the beach/apitheatre The steps to the toilets etc are washed during the day making them very slippery and there are big drops everywhere with very low walls. Food at the hotel was pretty poor, meatballs every night and nothing for kids, sald bar looked ok but everything had a sauce with it, food was often reheated for evening meal including the chips, nothing tasted fresh, the puddings were the same every night and breakfast in the morning was great, boiled eggs cooked 3 ways, 3 mins, 6 mins or scrambled (thx for that one Scot) :) To be fair, there was a nice selection of pastries. Pool was packed, no sunbeds unless you get up at 5am, or why not go down after the disco which is located on the 7th/8th floor and can be heard as you try and sleep even on the 2nd floor, we especially liked that. All day at the pool there was a pleasent aroma of sewer, this got stronger by 2pm and somtimes it actually makes you throw up. Pool was far too small for the hotel, it was the same depth through out and i recken on some days there was over 200 people in it. Hotel rooms vary, most are 2 bed affairs and they crammed 4 of us into 2 singles, that was novel. Our 5yr old slipped and smacked his head on the steps on the 5th day needing stiches, i especially thanked the poolman for washing the steps at 4pm most days, leaving the marble effect like a skating rink. oh and they relived us of 300 euro's to do the stiches after looking down a price list that looked like a menu, she picked the most expensive one. We met a great couple with their 2 kids about 5 days into our holiday, so together we sat there in the dark at nights complaining to each other about the hotel and it was actually quite refreshing, we used to love the long walk to get the drinks in reception as there was no outside bar in the hotel, only the one at the ampitheatre but unless you like wet steps i would avoid this entertainment nonsense. At 9:30pm sharp they would turn out all lights but in true British fashion we ventured the walk to the bar and were alone on the terrace apart from some small glasses of Effes and some kids cocktails. Could this hotel be good??? Damn yes it could, but I could not list the things that need changing in this little box. Make the holiday what you will, we had some fun times, and kussadasi is great but take some advice from people with KIDS, go next door to Fantasia, you won't regret it. If you have booked this hotel and are now reading these reviews thinking [--] what have I done, you are not alone, we were in the same boat, and your holiday is what you make it. would I go back... If they made it child friendly, sorted out the food, the smell and the smoking in the dining room/reception lobby bar, then i might, but otherwise NO. Thanks go to Scott and Susie + kids for making our remaining days more bearable, and being the only other British holiday makers in the whole hotel.
Was ok.. Not terrible!!! But ok.
Ok, so after reading the reviews of this hotel, you could say i was more than a little worried about staying here! But to be honest, it wasnt all as bad as i expected. Ok so it wasnt a 5 star, but really, what do you expect when you go to a foreign country? Well, ill start from the beginning... We arrived in the early am and were given a room with 2 beds, as a couple we wanted 1 double bed, this was not a problem and he changed it. The air con wasnt great in the room, and it took me 2 nights to get used to the heat but not a major problem. We had a room at the top, without a balcony but the view was great, the sunsets were beautiful and the breeze for being right by the sea was a bonus. They dont have a beach as such, just a man made one which isnt ideal for the kids, but the nearest beaches arent too far away. They do though, have 2 piers, which is where i spent most of the day. It was lovely and quiet and had a lovely breeze from the sea, with ladders down into the sea, you could cool off easily. The pool was crowded with loads of children. It was definately a family hotel. Most of the guests were turkish, so the entertainment was mostly in turkish but this didnt bother me as i wasnt joining in, and didnt have any kids! The food was nice! Not a big selection of hot food at dinner but massive salad bar. Breakfast was nice again with not a big selection of hot food. And lunch was ok again not so much hot food. We did eat in the hotel everynight bar one, and we were never unwell. As for the hotel not being clean, the maid cleaned our room everyday and did a good job of it. It was very handy for the Dolmus also, it was just across the road aand cost 2lira into town. Overall, i did have a nice stay here. I wouldnt go again, but not because it was terrible, just because i tend to try different hotels everytime i travel. I wouldnt recommend this hotel, but if you have booked it and then read these reviews, PLEASE dont worry. I went expecting the worst and it wasnt that bad! But thats maybe because i didnt expect 5 star standards, after all, we were in Turkey!!
worst nightmare.
Stayed in this hotel for 1 night as we were dumped here by tour operater Rightholidays, after the 5 star hotel we had booked was full when we got there. this hotel must be the worst hotel in the world it is disgusting in all ways. the food that was served was not good enough for a dog to eat never mind expecting humans to. the rooms were so dirty that i slept in my clothes on top of bed rather than take the chance of catching something. this hotel is ranked as 5 star please believe me when i say that 1 star does it justice.NEVER BOOK THIS HOTEL IT IS YOUR WORST NIGHTMARE.
My worst nightmare
I planned a vacation here with my friends and their family. I went with my daughter. The hotel was filthy, swiming pool taken care of by a local who had no idea what to do, confirmed by the management. My daughter caught skin problems. My morning coffee served in a cup with lipstick on the brim. air conditioning whenever they felt like it. Staff really horrible and very unpleasent. Never again will I go to this hotel and my friends and I made a formal complaint once back in Belgium.
not good at all
we stayed in this hotel for 2 weeks in september and i was quite pleased with my self fof booking a 5* hotel for the money i paid but when i arrived that all changed. first impressions were good as the reception & lobby area is covered with marble and decked out with expensive looking leather chairs but that was the only thing good about it. The staff were arrogant and rude, we were the only english people in the hotel so none of the other guests or staff could understand us and the place was swarming with wasps. The evening entertainment is absolute garbage one night there were 2 of the animation team crawling around on the floor in nothing but a pair of shorts making stupid noises and then they pretended to be babies it was rubbish and none of the guests even clapped afterwards. When the hotel was described as having its own beach it meant that it has a man made ledge with a bit of sand on. And as for the food lets just say that the bum washers in the toilets came in useful. A couple of good things though about this hotel was the view from our room we stayed in room 1717 on the top floor and it was amazing also the sunsets are the best ive seen but thats not enough to make me want to go back.
An awful experience
I was hosted at this hotel during an organised trip to turkey. The hotel its probably the worst i've been in my whole life. It is not a only 5 star hotel (in Spain there are better 1 star hotel). it is also dirty, ugly, with a non other-language-but-turkish speaking staff, with a bad bufé... We were hosted in the -2 floor, our room was filthy (the bath was flodded), the door didn't close properly, the drawers didn't open, the TV was old and 12' or less... But worth of all was the lack of cleningless.. the forniture were dirty, the shower has a suspicius black color... The hotel itself it's old fashioned, dirty and the staff was unpleasant... Avoid it!
