Surmeli Istanbul

Last Year I have stayed in this hotel and it was absolutely marvelous. I have traveled around the world quite a lot, but this time really surprised me in a positive way. The staff was very professional and at the same time welcoming, courteous and efficient. The hotel has a very convenient location and beautiful view. Overall, everything in this particular hotel made my stay unforgettable.

I was invited to attend a conference in Istanbul and accommodated in this horrible place. Someone was saying 5 stars?? This is a 2 star dirty and extremely noisy hotel. The room was large, but the smell in it coming from the bathroom was really disgusting. The flowing water was strangely colored in brown and had some smell. There were two noises in the room, one from the boulevard and the other from the doors to other rooms (as all of them are in kind of atrium). I had the impression of (trying to)sleep in a corridor. The Surmeli Istanbul hotel does not deserve its Five Star rating. My husband and I no longer respect the rating system. We booked a room that cost approximately $131 American dollars per night. (1)Upon checking in, our non smoking room was directly across the hall from a loud dinging elevator. Management directed us to a second room that was dingy and unrenovated; after three more attempts and waiting for 45 minutes, we were checked in to a non smoking room. We had booked this hotel before I read the reviews posted here and were rather apprehensive about what we would find. I have to say we were pleasantly surprised. We had a superior suite and it was everything you would expect from a 5* hotel and I can honestly say we experienced none of the problems reported by others. The staff were extremely helpful. It is situated away from the main tourist attractions but we had no problems using the metro/tram to reach them and enjoyed seeing other parts of the city en route.

Surmeli is good hotel but far from city center.

What can I say! I read the reviews about this hotel before the trip and they weren't that great. However, a salsa congress I was attending was taking place here and I thought it will do. This was good value hotel with under $100 to stay in. I was there for holidays 4 days,the hotel seems ok but there are some problems like the dinner??!!! the location is not bad and is close to good shoping centers and old city or ortakoy. the carpets are very dirty, the noise inside the rooms is very discomforting and the safe boxes and the pay tv was not working!!! you decide yourself but it is not that bad.

Stayed 4 nights in the hotel in order to attend a seminar which was hosted there. The rooms are OK and the Hotel is providing the general standards of any modern hotel. My only problem was that the room was terribly noisy (from inside the hotel). The door has a 2 cm gap underneath and all the noise from the corridor plus lifts were very clear to hear. This hotel which was listed as a five star is not even close to a two star. Extremely pathetic service, will never recommend it to anyone as there are tons of really good choices for $100/night in Istanbul. The carpet in the room was so dirty that I could not walk on it without my shoes on and the bathroom was stinky and extremely cramped. To top that up, you could hear some really strange noises (rather not get into it on this forum) from some other rooms all night long.........Everyone should stay away from this place so they can close it... more

This hotel looked as if it may have once been 5 star, but I would rate it as 4 star. The staff were friendly, the room was a reasonable size and the bed was fine. However, my room was a bit smelly and the air conditioning did not keep the room cool. The entire decor of the hotel is old and tired and needs to be updated.
