Nice Hotel
from tigrablue
Just arrived back from the Grand Newport and it was everything i thought it would be, Rooms were nice and clean and looked exactly like they do on web, Hotel was nice, 50% of the staff were friendly (miserable woman in top main bar was definatley in the wrong job) Pool bar could have done with a deep clean but ok, getting a drink was never a problem but in plastic kiddies cups or lager in beakers. Pool was really clean and kids loved it. Bridge gets very hot in day and our little boy blistered his toes on it so beware!! Food was not brilliant but you could usually find something to eat. Bar shuts at 23;00 and then drinks really expensive from main bar in hotel after this. Dolmus' regular from hotel. Met Lewis Hamilton....He was the taxi driver that took us back to the airport, geez did he ever drive fast,he drove like he had stolen it, he leaned as if playing a playstation game.. Please beware, Bodrum airport was extremely expensive for drinks. 1 can diet coke, i beer and 1 ice cream 26 lira. 2 beer i vodka and coke 42 euro and 2 cans fizzy drinks for kids 8 lira. Overall had a nice relaxing holiday but will be a while before i forget the 45 steps to to the coffee machine the next morning after the all inclusive vodka..
Great bargain holiday
from wilsonfalkirk
Just home from this lovely hotel, An army of people are constantly cleaning so hotel is spotless. We booked a last minute bargain with sun wings and went with an open mind. We were very happy comfortable clean rooms. Although our first room was down 112 steps, the scene from rocky sprang to mind, our rep Caner {great rep, nothing a problem} got our room changed to a beautiful balcony view of Gumbet bay further up at no extra cost. Food was a bit repetative but hot food was always cooked properly and hot, and there was lots of salad stuff to choose from. {Try the Annaliva in Gumbet for great food for a wee change, the chicken in honey sauce was fantastic!!! }Staff all work very hard and long hours but were always happy to help. The front desk manager is a lovely man and just wants everyone to have a great time. Which we did. Try turgetreis market for shopping , they sell the same stuff the shops in Gumbet do but at a totally more realistic price. The airport is a huge rip off £6.50 for 2 cans of juice so take some with you.
Disappointing

The view of the bay when you walk into the hotel lobby is amazing and is the best thing about the hotel. It was a relatively cheap last minute booking. The main lounge, lobby area and bedrooms were OK, clean and well furnished. Although the food provided was not as varied as other places we'd stayed in Turkey it was plentiful and there was usually something we were happy to eat. The waiters were generally very friendly, hard working and efficient. Small tips in this area certainly helped. The bar service was the worst I have experienced in any hotel, anywhere. There appeared to be no overall management guidance as to how the staff should operate. Tipping in this area made no difference to the service we received. The female staff in the lounge bar were extremely slow, inefficient and unfriendly. They would often interupt serving guests to answer the telephone or attend to the needs of the management. On several occasions ice, water, and even glasses were unavailable, beer was never served in a glass only in a plastic beaker. The pool bar was dirty and while I can understand that it is unsafe to use glasses in a pool area during the daytime I expect that once the tables are laid and set for dining in the evening glasses should be available - there seemed to be some bizarre rule that between 6.30 and 7.00 when people were having a pre dinner drink that it was against 'the rules' to use glasses, drink was normally served in flimsy plastic cups during this period. The wine!!! the temperature of the red was hot, quite the hottest wine I have ever been served, even the white wine had to be cooled with ice cubes. The pool area adjacent to the straw awning was absolutely filthy I should think it had not seen a broom let alone water since the beginning of the season, in fairness it was cleaned, after a fashion, on our last day there. The music chosen by the entertainment guy was dreadful, we spoke to lots of other guests of varying ages and it satisfied none of us - it was just loud boom, boom boom from 10.00am - the only brief respite was when one of the waiters put alternative tuneful music on whilst we ate dinner. The waiters who were generally very hard working were lined up in the dining room every evening, in full view of guests sitting outside, and were shouted at by a manager, with lots of finger wagging as he walked up and down along the line. Had this been our first visit to Turkey I doubt we would have returned but we do know that there are very well run hotels in the same price range out there.
Blackpool in the sun / on the set of Benodorm

just came back from a 2 night stay in this hotel. (thank goodness it was only 2 nights). i have to say, from the website and photo galleries etc. the hotel looks lovely. when you first enter the Grand Newport, the lobby/reception area is lovely and the view across the aegean coast is beautiful. however, this was the only thing that was pleasing about the hotel. ARRIVAL - Heaven help you if your room is between numbers 100 and 300. you have to be Rocky in order to climb up and down the (roughly) 150 steps. in 45 degrees of heat, this task was not welcomed. ROOMS - Pleasant but not up to the supposed 4-5 stars which this hotel has been awarded. the worst thing of all was the shower water. it came straight from the sea. whether or not the filters were not working, who can say? salty as anything - disgusting. FOOD AND DRINK - Fine if all you've ever been used to is school dinners. salads good but repetative. main courses very simple. the drinks that were on the (laughable) All Inclusive package were dispicable. the wine was worse than the salty shower water. after 11 o'clock, the drinks (Vodka, Gin, etc.) were 15YTL (6.50 pounds). STAFF - Could not speak a word of English which is unusual for a tourist area considering most of the locals outside of the hotel were practically fluent. the hotel staff's english became a lot less able when you wanted something. Reception staff tried to rip us off. on paying the bar bill the next day they asked for 45YTL which was fine. we asked if we could pay in euros. they said fine, "give me 35 euros". however we know the exchange rate and it actually comes to 28 euros. TRANSPORT - Taxis and buses were excellent. GUMBET - perfect for (1) lager louts, (2) Blackpool/Benidorm lovers, and (3) people who can't tell the difference between a good drink and a drink that tastes like fortified urine. BODRUM - much nicer place. good for shopping etc. there are a lot of nice bars on the front/harbour area. however, like the hotels, the drinks are about 7pounds or 3.30 for a beer. OVERALL - ideal for those with low expectations. having been used to 5 star accommodations in the Far East and America, to put this hotel on par with this rating is a disgrace. i would struggle to rate this hotel as 2 stars. however, as previously mentioned, this hotel is perfect for those who think Benidorm is a holiday hotspot. what troubles me most is the excellent reviews which are displayed on this site. if this hotel is "Heaven" (as quoted from a review), goodness help all of us religious folk.

I'm 19 years old and went to the Grand Newport for a week with my friend. We wanted a relaxing holiday, but with the option of having mad nights out. The Grand Newport is perfect for this. We walked in and I actually remember dropping my case because the view when you walk into reception is AMAZING. Really breathtaking. Got our cases carried to the room for us which was down some steps. If you're at the bottom of the hill then yeah them steps are gonna do your head in by the end of your holiday! Our room was at the top so we were quite lucky. The room was spotless, really nice bathroom. Clean towels everyday and rose petals on the bed which were no nice we took pictures of every day!! The pool area is so nice, not too difficult to find a sunbed! We got up about ten every day and usually got two in the sun. Always spotless, the hotel has like an army of cleaning and maintainence guys who are constantly making sure it's spotless around the pool. Nice bar area, although watch out girls, the waiters are INTENSE. That's the general rule for turkish men but honestly, they will not let it go. Easier to just smile and play along with them. I know some people have commented about the food here saying it's very "turkish" oh my god you're in Turkey what do you expect!!! I don't understand people who go on holiday to eat English food. The food was really turkish yeah but it was so nice and we never had the same meal twice in a week. Even when it wasn't meal time you can always find food somewhere in the hotel. Entertainment at night from the "famous" Jimmy. Good for a laugh and to drink until the bar closes, then we would go into Gumbet on the Dolmus. Little minibus that goes to Bodrum and Gumbet 24 hours a day and only costs 1.70 lira. Stops right outside the door, can't go wrong!!! Oh also, the photo guy at the hotel is amazing. Comes round and takes pics of you then you can buy them later on. He took me and my friend to the beach for some sunset shots. They were really amazing and I bought loads. He's a really nice guy. Definitely reccomend a night out into Bodrum. Jimmy organises a free coach to Halikanos and back usually on the night when it's a foam party. Do it, its the most amazing experiance ever and worth every penny. Can't wait to go back to the grand newport again, i wouldn't stay anywhere else now.

Arrived safely after three days travelling from the shetland islands.Recption werent very good at english but alright 129 steps from room to pool/restaurant so legs were toned by the second week.Hotel in general was spotless cleaned the whole time, and the service was very good. Food was good, got a bit boring after two weeks so went out to the chineese. Entertainment-where do i start `famous jim carry`no doubt he will tell you of his many T.V apperences, but young single girls beware he may just offer to take you to his room!!! The transport facilitties to Bodrum,Gumbet,Bitez were amazing.just jump on the dolmus wich runs every 5mins 24h.Most restaurants will pick you up from hotel and take you back. Met two lovly families from aberdeen on the second week,so we had a good drink with them overall all had a fab holiday and possably going back next year.
had a great time

we stayed the first 2 weeks in july.had read the reports so werent expecting good food. we were pleasantly surprised. the food was fresh and really good quality.stunning location. clean rooms. had to fight to get moved to one with a balcony but reception staff and manager were really helpful. bus into bodrum and gumbet runs 24hrs from outside hotel and one comes along every few minutes and is only about 60p.all the reports about the entertainment were true. he is a one man show called jim carey and he is mad! beware if you dont play by his rules he spits the dummy and goes off in a huff but he was good fun and arranged loads of trips to the local clubs with a free bus. all in all a great value holiday would definitely go back.
An enjoyable week

We read the reviews for this hotel on Trip Advisor before we booked, and we were not disappointed. What the majority of people have said on this site is absolutely true. The Grand Newport Hotel is great value for money and we would recommend to anybody who wanted a hot, well-priced break in Turkey. Good points - value for money, location, views, good-looking, modern hotel, plenty of space around the pool, no trouble getting served with drinks, clean, friendly staff. Bad points - not many! Not for those with walking difficulties, as there are lots of steps to climb from your room up to the main hotel. If you go to dinner late, the food might be slightly cold. Not much hotel entertainment. Sometimes the staff used their hands to serve ice in your drinks!! The solution to this, is to ask for drinks with NO ice!! Overall, a great hotel at a great price.
Wicked time at Grand Newport
from BillericayAndy
Just got back from the Grand Newport hotel 24th june - Very nice hotel, clean and tidy, food was great, brilliant views over Gumbet bay from the pool and outside eating area. The hotel is located between Bitez and Gumbet at around 150ft above sea level <so google earth tells me>, the walk down to the beach at Bitez is 10-15 minutes down very steep hills. Did this on the first day, then we discovered a much easier place to go- turn right as you come out of the hotel, then right before the mini market shop, at the bottom of the hill there is a few steps leading down to what is probably a private beach for some hotel and also a small patch of sun beds by the sea which you couldn't really call a beach but it does the job. Just a mention about prices you should expect to pay (June 07): £10 entry into Turkey at the airport £35 - 80 YTL taxi from the airport to grand newport £7 - 20 YTL taxi to the Aqua Park £12 - 30 YTL entry Aqua Park £3 - 8 YTL taxi to Gumbet 70p - 1.75 YTL Dolmus bus to Bodrum £40 - 100 YTL 20mins 2 people on one jetski 40p - 1 YTL 1L bottle of water You won't get much sense out of the hotel staff as their english is not much good. -just point at the drinks you want!.. haha, But I think the reception staff should really be able to speak or at least understand english a little better as this was a bit of a pain. Had a wicked time though- really nice hotel, right next to taxi rank, and the dolmus bus every five minutes from out the front. water was crystal clear for snorkeling all round Gumbet bay <but watch out for boats> 40 degrees with a little breeze - was about as hot as you could want it!.. didn't see a single cloud in one week! Video of Gumbet Bay watersports and inside Grand Newport Hotel from my trip in june 07: youtube.com/watch?v=KdBG7ONlddQ Oh, and when your in Gumbet or Bodrum and had enough of the locals trying to have away with all your cash: If someone offers you details on tours - tell them your going home tomorrow at bars and shops say your broke and ask what 1 Lira will get you.. And I found wandering around the shops on your own seems to attract a lot less hassle.
