Marina Residence Hotel

This pretty hotel is in a lovely setting and the staff are very pleasant. The rooms, however, could do with a bit of updating as the furniture is rather basic, the decor a little tatty and the air conditioning very noisy! On the plus side, the pool area is attractive and the grounds are beautifully maintained. Nicely renovated property in the old town with a great location. The rooms, however, are no more than a 3 star. A real turn-off was the large folded up-right poster on the counter that severely warned us to not bring any food or drinks into the room "for our own health and safety". What a rude welcome. The note continued to threaten to charge us 33% of the room bill which then would be donated to Turkish schools. The room itself was small and lacking a night stand on one side. Where to begin, that’s a hard one. Start with the hotel .It is classified as a 5 star superior and 18 years ago when the old ottaman pension was rebuilt it probably was, I would say that the rooms need a bit of T.L.C. but the lobby and the dining areas plus the pool area is of a 5star rating. We were put into rooms that overlooked some derelict buildings so we asked for rooms with the harbour view, the staff moved all our belongings the next day while we were on the beach, how good was that. The hotel is a nice hotel with nice surroundings, however they told me the hotel is overbooked even though I had a confirmed reservation. They transferred me to a nearby hotel, Aspen, that was fine, but looked like of a lesser quality.. The trouble is that I was not the only one transferred to another hotel, and it looked like they transferred a number of people with reservations to Aspen.

The hotel is a beautifully restored building located in the old town of Antalya (wouldn't like to be in the hugly huge hotel block areas of Antalya..). The gym is just 2 pieces of equipment and the rooms barely scrape the 4.5 star rating. However, the staff were fantastically friendly and helpful. The food and waiter service was outstandingly good to the extent that they bring your main course with a silver lid on it and simultaneously lift them from all places at the table whilst declaring viola! My husband and I stayed in the Marina Residence for a total of 19 days. The waiter service was faultless and all of the staff went out of their way to make our holiday enjoyable. This hotel is clean and friendly. The staff work incredibly hard. The food was very good and beautifully presented, our only comment is that the daily choice was limited, however saying that I do not like pasta and the chef very kindly provided me with an alternative. My husband and I booked into the Marina Residence Hotel three months before are arrival through a Turkish travel agent, a very good one, I might add, and prepaid our room for three nights. I even called the day before we were scheduled to arrive requesting an upgrade if they had one. I was assured by the desk clerk that we would get a very nice room. We spent 3 nights in June at the Marina Residence as part of our 2 weeks in Turkey. This is a delightful hotel. It is located on the sea wall of the Old Town within walking distance of the old port and many, many restaurants. The hotel is comprised of 3 old Residences set around a sparkling pool, which we used every afternoon. Arrived to find stained carpets, outdated furniture, a bathroom with chipped tub and just felt dirty....the whole room felt dirty. The carpets on the stairs were worn and the place needs some investment. The outside wood and structure in the courtyard has some charm but really only best viewed under dim lighting. The front desk person was not helpful. We were told no room for a second night. I spent the first few days of my honeymoon here. It was totally unforgettable. The service was awesome.. the food was great, etc etc, but really seperates this hotel from others is its location in Kaleici, which is the historic walled-in part of town, and its look. It is a cluster of historic and authentically decorated estates that are walled into an interior courtyard.
