Fantastic Hotel in a wonderful position on lovely beach. We’re not that easily pleased so it is so good to visit a place that is actually BETTER than it’s brochures say it is. For a change we stayed in a Lake View room , what a morning wake up to the ducks , birds and... more

This hotel is absolutely stunning, just like the whole of the island. The local people are really friendly and make you feel so welcome. We had a fantastic time here and really couldn't recommend it enough. Eating out: We found a fabulous place bang opposite the hotel,... more

Recent stay at Pelangi
We stayed at the The Pelangi Beach Resort for 14 nights recently, excellent location walking distance to lots of bars and restaurants, although taxis are very cheap. We would recommend Padi Cafe (opp hotel entrance), Sun Cafe, Orchid Ria (seafood restaurant), the lighthouse restaurant and the hotel next door to The Pelangi, the Casa del Mar. Rooms where all air-conditioned and clean, although they did need a little updating (but nothing too serious). Staff were friendly and very accommodating. I ordered room service and it arrived within fifteen minutes. We found that eating and drinking (even at the hotel) very cheap compared to hotels and resorts in Thailand. We would seriously consider returning to the Pelangi in the future.
Loved Pelangi
Just back from 10 days at the Pelangi had a wonderfull time. The hotel are working very hard to get the hotel back to how it was before the wave. Hundreds of new plants are going in and renewing some of the lawns. the staff are so helpfull if you need anything they try very hard to do or get what you want. The pool was very clean and so was the sea. Some days you had to wait for a table at breakfast time, could have had a few more tables but it was not a big problem just chill out. There are some great eating holes along the beach and a lot more if you get a taxi out and about. If i had one complaint the hotel was about 75 p/s full and if you came down to the pool area after 11.30 you had a problem getting a sunbed and shade so if the hotel gets more busy i could this being a big problem. But all in all we had agreat time and WILL return.
FAB RESORT!
We stayed in this resort in July 2004, and found it to be a wonderful experience, would return in the morning! Staff were pleasant and more than helpful. Rooms were of a high standard, although I think slightly tired in parts. Swimming pools were amazing and always clean, and it was great to have the swim up bars!! During July we had great weather and the resort was very quiet which was excellent, always plenty of room by the pool, bars and restaurants although it meant that by about 10.30pm the resort was practically deserted, with no one in the bar (especially the one by the beach). We spent 10 nights in this hotel and during our stay we did not venture into the sea once, which is usually quite unheard of for us. The sea seemed rough and uninviting and at no time did I see anybody else swim in it. The Spa was delightful, although expensive. Langkawi is a beautiful island, I have never seen so many different types of monkeys as we did when we drove through the rain-forests here, and also Iguanas just strolling along the edge of roads- it was amazing. I highly recommend this island and fantastic resort for a fab holiday.
all OK
Just got back from trip to Oz, on the way out stopped at Pelanghi beach resort on 24th Jan for 6 nights. We were a bit worried about going so soon after the Tsunami, didn"t think it was appropriate to holiday in a area where so many people lost thier lives, however when we got there we were warmly welcomed and was more than pleased at our choice of hotel. couldn"t have had better service, the staff were very friendly and the location was ideal. We would definitly stay at this lovely resort again when we next go to Malaysia.
go stay at the pelangi now
Contrary to the previous review we arrived back on the 18th February 2005 after spending three weeks at the Pelangi, which included our wedding and honeymoon. We stayed in a beach front room and the only thing noticable about the Tsunami was that some flower bushes had been removed (only along the beach front). Everything was excellent. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. The food delicious. Our room was kept very clean, the air conditioning is brilliant (and that also includes a fan). The pools are great, the evening entertainment was good, the lounge bar comfortable. We stayed at the Pelangi last year at approximately the same period and if anything, it was better! We would recommend the Pelangi to everyone. Carol and David
Brilliant Holiday
Just returned from The Pelangi Beach yesterday after one week stay with my wife and 3 children. In all honesty we were a little concerned after the terrible wave but there was no evidence it had been hit at all (as for all the places we visited on the island). We all loved the place and are already thinking of returning!! Having walked through the Pelangi on our last visit to Langkawi, we booked two pool view rooms interconnecting. We weren't aware there were two pools and were given rooms at the pool we didn't know about. We asked if we could change to the other pool and the staff arranged for it the following morning with no problems, they are so happy and helpful. The rooms are super. I had read the review on this site that they were looking tired etc, well all I can say is that the reviewer was either being extremely picky (most hotel rooms are not 100% perfect on close inspection) or they must have had lunch in a different hotel. (How can you write a review of a hotel by having lunch?) The other delightful thing about the Pelangi is it's location. Most other 4/5 star hotels on the island are secluded. The pelangi is on the edge of Pantai Cenang which has shops, bars, restaurants and water sports. As with most luxury hotels the food and drink are more expensive than local establishments. We tended to have only lunchtime snacks there by the pool. We tended to have breakfast and dinner out. I would recommend the following restaurants: The Red Tomato Ros Tee Orchid Ria Breakfast Bar These are the ones we used and there are loads more! Need I go on about how fantastic this place is?
The location makes the stay..
The previous post regarding the quality of the rooms seems fair, yet they only visited for lunch and did not stay. We have just returned from 8 days there, and having both travelled extensively, and worked in the leisure trade for 30 years feel justified to comment. Firstly, the rooms are a little tired (I have not seen an Aliseo hairdryer since the late 80's!), yet when you first walk into them, the natural wood that they are made from in the traditional Malay way cannot fail to impress. Experience tells me that people accept a little wear and tear as long as they are clean, and on this point houskeeping are pretty good, but not perfect (we had mini bar stock that was out of date by over 6 months!). The main moan we had was that the rooms are difficult to keep cool at night, as you only have an old and noisy air-con unit, or a whirring ceiling fan that also is difficult to sleep with. We were lucky to be upgraded to a beachfront room in the club class section, as the hotel was probably only 20% full due to so many cancellations post Tsunami. The view from the room, balcony and even the bathroom is truely world class, and this alone makes the holiday. On the Tsunami subject, we found the only visible signs was sand around the beachfront grounds, and some slightly brown vegetation, it seems such a shame that so many people choose to cancel, and this was apparent throughout the whole island in January it seemed. We felt the food and beverage operation, whilst good, was not up to the standard we had hoped, but with so many great choices so close to eat and drink, you will not be stuck for choice. We enjoyed many a lunch at the excellent Beach Garden Resort a few doors down, sat on the beach, under the shade for an average of 15-20RM each. All in all Langkawi is a fabulous Island, with such great value for money on all aspects from food to car hire and taxi's, that you cannot fail to enjoy it, I would however suggest you stay at or near the Pelangi where there is more variation in eating out compared to other resorts we saw. Ps. try to do the cable car ride when its windy as we did, it beats just about any theme park ride I have ever been on!!
Paradise
Stayed here twice, booked for third time, the place is Paradise found, the room are first class the location is perfect the staff are so friendly and can't do enough for you, and everything with a smile. The gardens pool and beach area is immaculate, you may pay a bit more for this location, but it is worth every penny. Can not recommend enough.
Not all that
Went and visited the Pelangi in late January 2005 for lunch. The room we saw was sea front and it was tired. The air con unit was glued together, tiles in bathroom were cracked, doors onto the balcony didn't close properly and all the furniture looked old. There were even holes in the black out curtains. I do not know what it looked like before the tsunami, but I can say the grounds were looking tatty and not highly maintained. I see from the other reviews many people find this resort lovely. Perhaps the atmosphere and other guests make their stay. The pools we swam in were a bit dirty, the sun loungers looked eastern european, the food is more expensive than comparitive hotels on the island and they labeled the mini bar items - presumably because either they do not trust the guests or staff. On a positive note the staff were nice and the reception at night is stunning with all of the ceiling lights.
Up and running
Just got back (18/1/05) from a wonderful 4 days at the Pelangi Beach - lovely hotel and the staff were really kind and attentive - nothing was too much trouble including a late checkout at 1830 (no extra charge). The only remaining sign of the Tsuami damage is a bit of sand on the lawns and a liitle bit of slightly brown vegetation. Both pools are clean and working and the beach bars etc are as new. Many visitors seem to have cancelled in the area which is a gross over-reaction when everyone locally has worked so hard to tidy up. You are assured of a wonderful welcome and the weather is fantastic - clear blue skies and VERY hot.
