10 / 10
Jan 2007, Ms N J Coltman

After being away from home for 3 weeks, the last leg of our tour was KL city and the wonderful Mandarin Oriental Hotel. I have been treated so great on all my travels but this will take some beating. Room service twice a day, fresh fruit, bottled water, slippers by the... more

Another great stay at the Oriental
This was our second stay at the Oriental and again the service, facilities, staff and rooms were excellent. Ask for a (Petronas) Towers View room to get one of the best views of any hotel in the world. We have two young kids and they were treated like royalty. You can just walk across the walkway to the Suria KLCC which is the biggest shopping centre in KL and is at the base of the Petronas Towers. The Science Museum on the top floor of KLCC is excellent but can be busy in the morning. If you go to KL then this is really the only choice you should make.
Nicest hotel ever!!!!!
Well i have just come back from there, and I can not believe what that last review said, the people are not in the least bit arrogant or cocky, i actually thought maybe they were reviewing the wrong hotel!!!!! The staff were the friendliest people I have ever met, they couldnt do enough for us. The hotel was beautiful, the rooms spotless and spacious. Hate saying it, but maybe it was yourselves that had the problem cause I honestly dont think you can generalise and say the staff were arrogant, maybe there was one, but no way were all the staff cocky and arrogant...Shocked when i read that, I have travelled and stayed in many hotels and I would recommend this place to anyone. Food, people, rooms beautiful!!!!!!
DISASTEROUS!!!!!
The room was not ready on arrival at 4pm which was tiresome after a long flight. Staff was arrogant and maganement was cocky. Cant understand why it cost so much we upgraded to ritz carlton immediately. I enjoyed the club facilites and excellent choice of restaurant outlets at the ritz kl.
Sheer class
Stayed at the Mandarin for 2 nights - this hotel ouzes class. The service is excellent & it is the little things that count, the smiley faces of staff & every one genuinely wants to help. The iced water by the pool & cold refreshing towels. Most people have said it all before but here are a couple of tips - if you want a bit of sun the pool area goes into shade by 2.30pm although part of it nearer to the jacuzzi area comes into the sun again a bit later. We tried the taxis outside KLCC as someone previously said & got well & truely fleeced - 95 RM to China Town - it was our 1st night so we didnt know any better! It was only when we were quoted 10 RM to get back we realised! We had a lovely meal in the restaurant next to the lounge & very reasonably priced - in fact the hotel was v good value for money - it cost us just £33 a night room only via Expedia - what would that buy you in the UK?? We also stayed in the Hilton on our return - not as classy & more expensive but still a good hotel. KL well worth a few days especially if you stay at the Mandarin.
upgrade to a clubroom
Recently stayed at the Mandarin for 3 nightsExcellent location, wonderful service.I would thoroughly recommend upgrading for the little extra that it costs to a club room. When they say this includes breakfast, afternoon tea and snacks and evening drinks it is an understatement. The selection and quality was outstanding and if you really felt like it ,there would be no need to leave the hotel!Drinks can be expensive though. The staff at the club floor check in could not be of more assistance and arranged car hire for us which we were finding very time consuming indeed.A great expeience was had and a truly great start to our holiday in Malaysia.Would definately stay again.
Loved the Mandarin Oriental
We arrived at the hotel on the 14th July, for 3 nights before we moved on to Langkawi. To say we were impressed with this hotel would be an understatement. I travelled with my husband, my 16 year old daughter and her friend. We were given 2 park view rooms on the 14th floor, next door to eachother. Rooms were amazing and the views - spectacular. Little touches in the room were lovely. Different fruit every day, slippers placed by the side of the beds each evening etc. When we spent time by the beautiful pool area, staff were constantly bringing us iced lemon water, cold flannels. and changing our pool towels after swimming. The staff were amazing. Friendly, polite, discreet and so willing to help and advise us where to visit, places to see. Buffet breakfast was excellent. So much choice - too little time! What also makes this hotel fantastic is its position next door to the Petronas Towers. The area is so clean, puts the uk to shame! The KLCC is very nice, but we found our best bargains in China Town. We took the local underground - which was quicker than taxi, cheaper and again spotlessly clean. We ate in the hotel a few times, and the cost was very reasonalble, considering the star rating of the hotel etc. There were a few nice places to eat in the KLCC and also along the walkway overlooking the park. There was Starbucks etc and these again were not expensive. When we left the hotel, I filled in a questionnaire, and by the time we returned home from the UK there was a response from the Mandarin Oriental, thanking us for our comments etc. Thats what you call 5 star. Would recommend anyone visiting KL to pay that little bit extra to stay here. We upgraded from the Shangri La, at a cost of £3 pppn. Well worth it. Would stay there again, and again, and again!
Great hotel, great location
Another happy visitor, we took a club level park view room, it was great, with an amazing view. I still find it hard to belive the room rates for this place, very very reasonable.
Fabulous Hotel
We loved this hotel. The staff are very friendly and welcoming and we were able to check into our room at 10am without prior arrangement. Our park view room (definitely worth upgrading from a city view room to a park view room) was gorgeous and very comfortable. Little touches, like the bowl of different fruit on the table each day, made it extra special. The breakfast buffet was fantastic and caters for every taste and diet with a wide choice of cereals, fruits, pastries, rolls, breads, meats - absolutely everything was provided. It is definitely worth paying for if you don't have it included in your room rate. The hotel infinity pool overlooks the park and is stunning. It was virtually empty during our stay but provided a welcome relief from the hot weather. In terms of location, the hotel is right next to the Petronas Towers and the KLCC shopping mall so is very handy for access to these. It is a bit of a trek to the other shopping areas and sights of the city but taxi's are so cheap and the monorail station is within walking distance so it isn't a problem. If we could endure the 13 hour flight to KL again we wouldn't hesitate to stay here again.
The hotel's taxi service is a rip off!
My husband and I flew from Hong Kong to Kuala Lumpur over the July 1st long weekend. The hotel was excellent - great breakfast buffet, good food, great service, conveniently located right in the city center and right next to KLCC/Petronas Towers. However, I was extremely disappointed by the "taxi service" counter that was located right at the hotel's front door, next to the luggage desk. It seemed that everytime we wanted to find a taxi we were required to go through the "taxi service" counter. That was fine with me since it was our first trip to KL and we were worried we would be ripped off by taxi drivers if we hailed a taxi right off the street. We discovered that we were wrong. It seemed everytime we needed a taxi even if drivers were dropping off passengers at the front door we could not jump right in even if no one was waiting for a taxi. We had to wait for the taxi service guys to talk to the driver in local language (we don't speak the local language), then most of the time the taxi service guys would inform us that the driver would be happy to take us for a flat rate... ie., the driver would NOT go by the meter. We fell for it the first time but we later discovered that if we hailed a taxi just off the street outside the hotel or at Suria KLCC we would probably pay less even if the driver did not want to go by the meter. I would advise anyone who is staying at this hotel NOT to use the taxi service. Just walk to Suria KLCC (the shopping mall) to find a taxi. Don't bother with the taxi service counter because they RIP YOU OFF.
phenomenol
if you are going to stay in KL - this is the best place to stay - if you like nice rooms, service, food and location.
