Ok - not great
Stayed for 4 nights at the Magellan at end September. In general the Magellan is OK - the central areas and the Swimming pools are impressive, and the restaurants not bad, if expensive. However, the rooms and service are really not up to sratch for a place that describes itself as a 5-star resort. We had to move rooms as our first room had heavily damaged furniture and a very stained carpet. This seemed a chore for the staff who didnt seem particularly interested in us. The second room wasnt that much better to be honest, but our ability to... more
My first stay at Magellan
Our family (+ two children under 12) stayed at Magellan Sutera Deluxe Sea View, for three nights last year in November on our first trip to KK. I made my bookings through the hotel website and called up to confirm my reservation. When we arrived at the hotel, I was surprised to find out that we were not excepted and my reservation was booked for December. The lady at the reception took some time and after waiting for 30 minutes we were shown to our room. Although I had requested for a Sea View room, the room they gave us had a tree... more
Upgraded to a Suite!
We stayed here for 2 nights and were upgraded to a suite with spacious lounge area, big bedroom with a massive bathroom, dining area and two balconies. The sea view was lovely. Service at the reception desk varied depending on different staff, so can be excellent to fairly average. Dinner at Ferdinands was excellent with brilliant service and delicous Italian food but is fairly pricey in Malaysia's standard but we thoroughly enjoyed it. We also ate at their buffet restaurant one night which featured a sea food night and we also... more
Good but not great
We stayed at the Magellan Sutera from 11 September for 8 nights in a harbour view room. The room itself was a good size, clean and had the facilities you would expect from this standard hotel - the bathroom was particularly nice with a deep bath as well as walk-in shower. The rooms could be quite noisy as the walls didn't appear to be very thick and the hallways not of the carpeted variety. It was sometimes difficult to decipher whether a thunderstorm was approaching or it was merely a trolley or suitcase being dragged past your room.<br... more
Great room... with a little effort
My wife and I stayed in the Magellan wing of the Sutera Harbour resort back in June last year. We booked a seaview room through our travel agent but upon arrival we found that our room was located on the ground floor (just around the corner from the reception desk) and the so called “seaview” was a tiny glimpse of the ocean between two of the hotel buildings. Needless to say I was not impressed. I proceeded immediately to reception to request a change of room and was pleasantly surprised to find that the staff member at reception was... more
Loved the Pacific Sutera
My husband and I recently stayed at the Pacific Sutera, KK in a seaview room. The room was nicely decorated, good size with lovely views from inside room and balcony of the sea and harbour. On arrival we had a plate of chocolates and fresh fruit - which was a lovely welcome. The staff were absolutely fantastic and always helpful. We had most of our meals at the hotel and also the Magellan .We also did the Sepilok tour which we would highly recommend - although a long day - well worth it. Sunday markets for lots of bargains to take home... more
Magellan Hotel the best in KK
We were recommended this hotel by friends who stayed there previously. We were not disappointed. For the price, this is the best hotel in KK. The staff are extremeley friendly and helpful. The location is jsut out of town but shuttle buses are provided on the hour. A taxi costs a fixed rate of 10 ringit (about AU $3.50) to got to or from the town. There is a marina right next to the hotel where you can catch small ferries to the outter islands which take about 30 minutes. This is a must. It costs 95 ringit for the two way fare,... more
Ok hotel
Stayed with my fiancee at Magellan Sutera for 4 nights already last year. Good in hotel was: best swimming pools in KK; you have access to both Magellan's and Sutera's pools + on top of that I loved the 50 meter Olympic pool next to marina where I could swim practically alone. Room was ok, but nothing special really. Size could have been bigger, we had view to swimming pool. Breakfast was pretty ok. Snooker & pool tables at Marina club + they used to have there, at least during our stay, daily happy hour (made my 2 daily cold... more
Near Perfection!
One of my favorite places to stay in the world! This first-class hotel has an open air lobby with some of the most attentive people in the industry (although the last time I was there (May 2006) I thought that they were slightly less attentive than previou stays). While staying at a suite in the Sutera Magellan portion of the hotel, the King, Princess and Prime Minister were also staying there, and we had the red-carpet treatment during our entire visit! The views are wonderful, food is good (although this time they had "Americanized"... more
Couldnt recomend highly enough
I have just returned from 12 nights in the Magellan Sutera Harbour Resort and it was incredible. I was slightly concerned after reading a recent review that criticised the service and the quality of the rooms which I have to say I found absolutley no evidence of, on the contrary it was the complete opposite. There are 2 hotels at the resort, the Pacfic and the Magellan. The Pacific is geared more towards the business traveller and the other to the leisure traveller, but both are beautiful hotels with great facilities. In the Magellan... more
