I stayed at the Evason for 10 nights,...

Mar 2008, Miss H Dee

I stayed at the Evason for 10 nights, and loved every minute of it! From the first minutes of arriving at the hotel, i was overwhelmed with the unique and cosy design. The hotel has a rustic feel to it, whilst still keeping its 5* status. All the staff are so nice and greet you as you pass. We were upgraded to a deluxe room on arrival (may have been because i looked like i was in a bad mood after travelling, heehee), and although it was really nice, we spent little time in the room as there was so much to do, so your accomodation really doesnt matter too much as it was well cared for/clean, and thats all that really matters.
There are many restaurants within the hotel to choose from, and for someone like me who doesnt like seafood, or anything too unusual, i was happily eating many of the dishes they had on offer. The only downfall with the restaurants is the morning breakfast, as it is served on buffet. This is all well and good, but if you only want a bowl of cereal, you are charged the set price of a breakfast, which was 1,350 baht for two of you. We ended up buying a big box of cereal for 70baht and ordering milk and bowls!!
The trips on offer were very good, all very much tourist focused. Our tour guide recommended we visit the PhangNa islands (james bond islands) with the canoe trip, which i defiantly advise to anyone! Although they do trips just by boat around these islands, it only costs a few pound more to have the same trip, but with the added canoeing. They take you through the caves, which arent too claustropic (the water is up to your waist) and once in the middle of the island, you can see monkeys, as well as an amazing view of the rock. Phi Phi (where the beach was filmed) was also a good trip, although it is very busy. Went white water rafting, and on elephants on the mainland, but if you dont want the white water rafting, it is much cheaper to go to the elephant camp near to the hotel, we did both.
The evenings require alot of imagination with things to do, as your only options are to eat in the restaurants, or to take the hotels shuttle bus (800 baht for two people) to Patong. Although it was scary at first to visit these markets, as the sellers often bombard you as soon as you walk by, you do get used to it, and i actually found it fun at times!! My advice, if your just looking at things.....dont point at it, as they will put it in your hand, make you try it on, or offer prices! You can get alot of really good stuff in these markers, with the billabong shorts being my boyfriends favourite! lots of football shirts, bags, buddha's, jewellery, t-shirts! Be prepared to try things on (everybody does it there) as the sizes are all very different to each other, and to english sizes.
The hotels private island was actualy really nice, with free canoes, and snorkelling equipment. But there are tiny jellyfish that sting, although you may not even notice them as they are so small.
Out of all three pools in the hotel, me and my boyfriend actually preferred the family pool. It was very large, with two different ends-one was less deep for younger children, as well as another seperate pool area. The family pool was ideal for laying in the sun, as there was lots of room, and had the sun on it all day long. Whereas the garden and the infinity pool were always very busy, and too compact, so couldnt move the loungers. We did visit the infinity pool once, and was lovely to have view, but still favour the family pool.
I think this is all the necessary things about our evason holiday, and would definatly go back there if i could, especially with the english weather we are having!

Stayed in this hotel August 2004 (10 nights) and again August 2005 (12 nights). I find it difficult to explain how wonderful this hotel is. Rooms are luxurious even the basic room is luxury, our second trip we stayed in a room with its own pool certainly worth the little bit extra (cost wise), you feel like a millionaire. Pure indulgence.
The staff certainly know how to look after their guests you are always greeted with a smile, they are so polite, you are often handed cool flannels to help cool you down, hotel supplies beach towels, no shortage of sun loungers. In the afternoon at the pool side they offer you either fresh fruit or sorbet complimentary.
Food is excellent whatever food you like to eat they have it and I'm sure if they didn't they would cook it for you, do lovely children’s food.
We traveled with 3 children aged 9, 10 and 13 (in 2004) they loved every minute of their stay. Great day trips out suitable for all ages. The Thai people love European families they go out of their way to make sure the children are happy.
Hotel has its own exclusive island it is paradise, free boat ride to the island, would recommend getting a day sala approx £10.00 per day you have waiter service a day bed and private shower facilities and your own private area on the beach, you can even book a night and stay on the island it would be like being on your own desert island unfortunately we didn't do it because we had the children with us!
If you are used to holidaying in good quality hotels in Europe then this whole holiday including flights will be cheaper than your stay in Europe and you will find it difficult to compare. This hotel is at least 7*.
If you book this hotel I can guarantee you will not be disappointed.
