Wonderful relaxing stay in an excellent hotel
My husband and I travelled with our 4 children and stayed at the Dusit hotel for the first time. The hotel actually exceeded our expectations, the lobby area is very impressive, with a grand piano, wonderful flowers, sofas etc. The restaurants were excellent and the rooms tastefully furnished with good size bathrooms and beds. The beds, I must add and pillows were wonderful, very comfortable. The swimming pool was excellent, and very relaxing. The service was both professional and friendly. We had requested, as we were travelling with children, inter connecting rooms. Simon Burgess ensured that these requirements were met and during our stay took great care and effort in ensuring his guests were well looked after. We have been fortunate to stay in some wonderful 5* hotels over the years, but if the service and personal touches are not evident, the hotel does not come to life. I can honestly say, this hotel has it all.
An excellent resort!
I've now stayed at the Dusit Resort four times and have found the experience to be delightful. To start with, Hua Hin is a breath of fresh air compared to some parts of Thailand. The locals are very friendly and you can feel safe in the streets at any time of day or night. The east coast of Thailand doesn't have the scenic views or beachs of many other areas, but that doesn't detract from the place. The seafood restaurants on the wharf shouldn't be missed!!.. As for the Dusit Resort. I've read some of the previous reviews and believe some of the critical authors have be unjust to this delightful place, and good enough for members of Thai Royal family to stay there! Simon Burgess the manager is wonderful and a pleasure to deal with. The staff are very friendly and most have a good grasp of english. The service was excellent and the food sensational. The beachfront at the resort is generally nice, but with the magnificent main pool, one doesn't need to venture to the beach anyway. The rooms were of a good size with ample storage for clothes unless you've brought 10 suitcases with you!. The bathroom is quite big with a good size shower and bath and the beds very big and comfortable. The spa is fantastic and highly recommended. Overall highly recommended and can only suggest those who didn't enjoy a stay at the Dusit are unreasonable customers!
Very nice hotel
I stayed here for 6 nights with my wife and 6 yr old son and we found our overall experience to be a very pleasant one. The room was very nice, with fresh fruit and water provided daily. The facilities were also very good. The pools were very nice as were the staff who look after you around the pool. The restaurants were Ok, but as some of the food available in town was outstanding, we did not eat in too often. The Gym could do with a bit more training machinery, but was adequate for my needs. Overall, I thought the Dusit was a pleasant hotel, but very businesslike and formal. The personal touch was not as evident as it is in other Thai hotels I have stayed in, such as Cape Panwa (Excellent) in Phuket, but overall a very nice place. I would recommend it for a short stay, but I could imagine 2 weeks might become a bit tedious, but that is more to do with Hua Hin and Cha Am, than it is the Hotel.
5* Hotel measured up with 5* surroundings 'n service
We normally stay in the Royal Cliff Hotel in Pattaya and over the yrs have found it impossible to find a 5* equivalent anywhere else until we visited the Dusit. The pool area is actually the best I've ever experienced. The rooms and room service were excellent. The hotel staff were so pleasant and had excellent english. The management mingled with the guests and went out of their way to help. On Hua Hin itself, we stayed for 14 nights and found that 5-7 nights would have been sufficient. It got very boring after the first week going down town and seeing the same thing. Unless you are fit, you need taxis all the time to get from the hotel to the main downtown area, there isn't anything around so if you want r 'n r, this place and hotel is ideal. If you want r 'n r during the day but would like activity at night, stay a week and move on elsewhere.
Excellent resort
We were worried by some of the reviews of this resort. All our fears were dispelled by Simon and his staff.Excellent restaurants, lovely pool and very good staff. The accomodation was roomy, and very comfortable. We would recommend this resort.
We loved it
We were slightly concerned having read the previous reviews about what we would find. However, we need not have worried. Everything hit all the right buttons for us. Yes, the bedroom had wallpaper on the walls and carpet on the floor, which may offend some trendy people, but was fine by us. We used all restaurants, bars, pools, gym, spa and found the service and food to be excellent. the gym was not huge but was well equipped. the spa was just heavenly. We particularly appreciated the speed with which we were checked in after a long flight. Although Hua Hin itself was not to our taste, this was not a problem because we were more than happy with everything the hotel had to offer. Free bottled water, ice buckets topped up twice daily, affordable mini-bar prices etc. etc. - did these people really stay in the same hotel?
Leading Hotel of which World?
As Thai hotels go, this one is the really not great. One can do so much better in the so-called 5 star category. The hotel itself is a block of concrete built around a large pool. The entry to the "resort" is not impressive, unless a parking lot is your idea of natural beauty. The rooms - Holiday Inn with a triangular pillow on the bed. The beach -- jelly fish the size of dinner plates, piles of various types of detritus dot the shore, and it doesn't seem like the beach is cleaned or raked on a regular basis. The restaurants are painfully average. Service is ok-ish. Smiles and wais all about, but ask for anything out of the ordinary and the starting point is invariably "no" ("I'd like to change my room as the shower is filled with mold." "No." "I am sure you can find something better. I am very unhappy." "Exceptionally sir, something would be available." "Kawp koun maag krap!") The one redeeming factor about this place is the spa, which is absolutely beautiful. The choice of treatments is vast, and the setting is calming, and discreet. The massage therapists were trained in heaven, it would seem! In conclusion, with all of the unbelievable beauty that Thailand has on offer, Hua Hin is a miss. Krabi and Ko Pipi are definitely the places to go...Not only does the natural beauty of these destinations take your breath away (Hua Hin is flat and dusty, in comparison) the accomodations there are far superior.
Heaven in Thailand
We have just returned from the best holiday in our lifetime at the superb Dusit Resort in Hua Hin. As experienced European travellers we were looking for something special on this occasion, as it was a special wedding anniversary. Our Dublin travel agent recommended the Dusit. We stayed at the Carlton Hotel in Sorrento last year and the comments and advice we received from other "tripadvisor" users was first class and ensured we knew what to expect to maximise our stay. However, having read other "tripadvisors" mixed reports about the Dusit we were concerned. And indeed as a "Doubting Thomas" i.e. one who will not buy a camera or book a holiday destination without first checking it out with other "real" and experienced users on the net. I considered following the negative advice and book another hotel closer to Hua Hin town centre. Thank God we didn't and for once followed our travel agent's advice and booked the Dusit. Our ten day holiday in Hua Hin was magnificent from the first minute we walked into the palacial reception area. The welcome the "Sa-WA-Dee" smile and the genuine hospitality from the porter to the receptionist who personally escorted us to our suite. The charm, grace and elegance of the bar waitress in their long silk dresses when they knelt down and expertly poured your ice cold beer into a tall chilled glass accompanied with a beautifully presented selection of Cashew nuts and delicious canapés before dinner--fantastic service! The new manager Simon Burgess when he learnt that it was our wedding anniversary had a beautiful cake made especially for us and delivered with a bottle of champagne to our room. - a nice personal touch that was much appreciated. Our Thai and Dusit experienced is perhaps best described by a lovely Dutch couple we met and had a great "Craic" with, ---When he stated that in Holland "I am an ordinary man but in the Dusit I am a millionaire". We were there at the slow end of the season. September is one of their quieter months so the resort was about half full except at weekends when the locals arrive from Bangkok. We lived like royalty with five hundred staff working to ensure everything was tip top and it most certainly was we were never disappointed. The food was excellent, especially the breakfast with a large international selection to suit all palates. Their made to order omelettes --superb!. Light lunch by the pool especially the chef salad with French dressing and a pot of freshly brewed coffee or a couple of Singha beers -great. The Hotel has four separate restaurants i.e Thai, Italian, Fish and European. If you are not satisfied with the choice in each you can select from each of the other menus and the waitress will endeavour to meet your requirements. Their buffet dinners particularly their fish and Thai selection are the best we have experienced. Hua Hin is exactly 10 minutes from the Dusit and is serviced every half hour by a dedicated private Avis service for €1 per person. Hua Hin itself is a lovely town where the King currently resides. When compared to the hussle and bussle of Bangkok it is Heaven. It has numerous colleges and universities a night market and a huge selection of local tailors. It also has a great selection of restaurants from Indian to Chinese to Italian to numerous local fish restaurants and even the usual international "Burger and Pizza" places. Monkey mountain and the elephant village, the railway station house along with the Hua Hin brewing company attached to the Hilton hotel are also worth a visit. Nice to visit but nicer to return to the Dusit We made it a point to visit the "other" hotels recommended to us by other "tripadvisor" users and the Hua Hin forum web site and took some excellent photos from one of the hotel roofs. However I strongly believe we made the right decision in the Dusit and if I could get the deal we got this year I would book right now for 3 weeks same time next year and avoid Bangkok altogether.
Not one of the "Leading Hotels of The World"
If you're looking for a luxurious 4/5 star hotel then please do not book the Dusit! We travelled to the Dusit as guests of Conde Nast Traveller Magazine and Kuoni and were expecting a pampered eleven nights after three hectic nights in Bangkok. Upon arrival we checked in and then had to wait in the non air-conditioned lobby for two hours whilst our room was cleaned. The receptionist informed us the reason for delay was due to our room being "Very Messy". First room had no air con and mould growing down the wall, peeling wallpaper, smelt and had what I can only describe as bacterial fungi in the base of the shower. Two rooms later and we settled on the one with cigarette burns in the carpet, plaster falling out the ceiling and dripping aircon. Nevermind we thought we'll make the most of it and duly headed for dinner which was bland, expensive and uninspiring, breakfast was also the same. The only way to Hua Hin was the Shuttle Bus and this stops running at certain times of day they will also only provide an Avis Taxi which costs 3x the local price. Having decided that we could stick it no longer we raised our complaint with the hotel manager who told us if we wished to leave he would not charge us for the remaining nights and could not understand why several other couples were also leaving. This hotel fifteen years ago would have been the ultimate in luxury however its shabby appearance and second class service means that it is no better than a bad B&B in Blackpool. Try the Hilton in Hua Hin its where we transferred, half the price and worth its five star rating!
Excellent Hotel with Fantasic Service
This is one of the most relaxing hotels you could ever stay at. I stayed in a standard room with excellent views of the sea and pool. The service in the restaurants, bars and even reception was excellent. When we checked in the doors were opened for us and bags whisked away to take up to our room. The receptionist checked us in then personally took us up to our room which was a refreshing change but how she walked in those heels all the way up to our room is beyond me! The restaurants were all very good except the Italian restaurant was a bit disappointing but it didn't really bother me because if I wanted to eat italian food all the time I would go to Italy! Went to the spa which although a bit on the expensive side for Thailand was the most wonderful and relaxing experience. I was a bit nervous as a man never having had a massage before but I needn't have worried as the Spa staff were very professional and above board. They are building a conference centre on to the hotel at the moment but that looks as though it will be finished soon and we did not hear any work going on there as they closed the wing that as near the work. I went into Hua Hin on the shuttle bus and even though it is quite a quiet town after half an hour I wanted to go back to the tranquility and relaxation of the hotel! It is right on the beach which is very secluded and there aren't any people trying to sell you things. Overall an excellent hotel worthy of the Leading Hotels of the World accreditation.
