We have stayed in over ten different beach hotels in Phuket:- 2 to 5 stars. Chedi is the only hotel we will never visit again. We booked a ten-day stay in a two-bedroom cottage. Very picturesque but.....
The second bedroom smelt musty: - in this bedroom we killed 2 large (approx 3 cm) cockroaches on separate nights. Staff took 3-4 hours to arrive with anti-cockroach spray each time. Under the bed has not been swept for ages as there were dust, kit-kat wrappers and tissue paper. At the end of our stay it still wasn't swept!
Light bulbs one each side of each bed and one at ceiling didn't work. Reported but was never changed.
The air-con was so rattly and noisy we had to switch off in the middle of night 4 some decent sleep.
The toilet window is overlooked by the cottage balcony located above us. The shower door was narrow (60 cm) and hung awkwardly opening in; if you're anything bigger than size 16 it'll be an uncomfortable entrance/exit.
It took 3 days and loads of reminders for a parasol to be located for our balcony table-sun longers (couldn't sit there otherwise in the baking hot sun!). Then the parasol arrived with holes and algae on it!
The room-cleaning and pool staff constantly on their mobile phones, not really interested in looking after their guests.
The pool was small (in comparison to other similar grade hotel) and the pool-pump was not working throughout the 10 days we were there, notwithstanding we reported to management.
Poor Room Service. Not great pool-side menu and service either. Went to Amanpuri Hotel (few minutes walk along the beach) for food in the end.
No apologies nor recompense was offered for extensive on-going renovation work in the restaurant above the pool which meant there was a shortage of poolside lounger-space - unless you wanted lumps of concrete to fall on your head or contractors ogling over your body from above!
Good points were:
Dinner by the Beach (only one night per week):- good service wonderful ambience.
Free Internet at the Foyer & Library (if you have your own laptop; which we had).
Fairly good buffet breakfasts. Excellent chef at the Egg Station.
Comparing like-4-like, this is a poorly managed hotel. The assets are certainly there - albeit some cottages desperately needs refurbishment especially the roofs, but it is just so poorly run.

Just found this site. We actually stayed at this hotel in 2002 for our honeymoon! It cannot be faulted in any way.
We were greeted by heart shaped petals on the bed in a typical Thai cottage style hut on a hill overlooking golden sands and a "warm" crystal clear sea! Staff were magnificent, they could not do more and that wasn't because we were on honeymoon, everyone was treated equally as well.
If you're thinking of booking... just book it, now! We're sure you will not regret it. We plan to return every ten years for our anniversary. Only one issue, disabled access to some of the hillside huts is/was restricted but this was as advised in the brochure!
Can't wait to go again. Loved it!
