We liked this hotel and we don't usually write reviews but felt that some very negative reports gave a wrong impression . If we had to find fault then the usual 'towel tossers ' were there in force 'reserving ' their place in the sun . The strange arrangement for the... more

Lovely hotel and resort
Overall this is a lovely hotel, although let down a little by the decor in the bed room which was a bit tired and the not quite 4 star bath in the ensuite which had seen better days. We had a nice outlook from our balcony over the swimming pool but were not on top of it, and we felt very private because of the magnificent architectural trees. We were able to hire a mini bar - perfect for a pre-dinner glass of wine. The public areas of the hotel and the hotel grounds were beautiful, spacious and immaculately clean. The food was good and varied with theme nights such as Italian, Mexican and Chinese for the more cullinary adventurous. Less adventurous eaters, though, were also well catered for. The entertainment in the hotel's Piano Bar was above average - typically a jazz band playing popular easy listeinng music or a singer or pianist. The second bar had a stage and there was a different show every night at 9.45. We went to a Robbie Williams tribute night and a mimed version of Starlight Express by the hotel's events staff- ok for a look if it's free! There was also a show for children beforehand. The hotel and Playa Blanca would be very suitable for anyone who is a wheelchair user or who has difficulty in walking as they are very flat. The hotel has two lifts to all floors and a number of ground floor rooms. The hotel was very relaxed and comfortable and the staff were helpful. I'm very surprised at the negative comments made about the staff by one reviewer. Despite my comments about the decor I would have no hesitation in returning to this hotel.
Stunning hotel and resort
My partner and i stayed this hotel in september 2004, from the front entrance at first we were rather weary as the hotel does not look all that much, but as soon as we entered the reception area all bad thoughts vanished, the food is the best i have had from any hotel, i have traveled all around europe and not had better even from 5 stars, each night has a different theme wether it be chinesse, mexican and canarian etc but there is always a huge choice, the staff are fantastic and always willing to help out, entertainment for adults was very very good and was always after an earlier entertainment session for children, also games and activities during the game were very varied and if you won specific activites you got a free drinks voucher,.......there is tennis, table tennis, garden chess, bowls, crazy golf, pistol shooting, archery, rifle shooting and i could go on forever the rooms to be honest are not upto much, (we clearly had a non refurbed room), everything seemed slightly dated, there were however no ant and general cleanliness was to a very high standard with a daily maid service, we were however on the second floor directly outside the lift, the floor is tiled in some area (like outside the lift) and on thursdays when people are coming and going with cases the clatter of wheels is enough to drive you mad, we stayed in room 2085 which was a nice size and had a fanatastic view of the sea and pool area the pool itself is also one of the nicest pools i have come across, the design is very good indeed with a very nice bar in the centre accesible by a bridge (not wheel chair friendly) prices in this bar are also very very fair compared to some other hotels i have stayed in, the pool area and infact the whole hotel seems to be effectively sheltered from the wind which is great, beside the pool is a small outside resturant which i highly recommend eating in, the prices are cheap and the food amazing, i got addicted to cheese and ham toatiesand chips at lunch time. near the pool is a gate which is opened by an electronic key card (only between (7am and 8pm), this gate lead directly onto a small area with shops, burger king and an irish bar which is very friendly, the gate also leads directly onto a beach after descending some steps, this beach is fantastic also with loungers and umbrella available for 6 euros, the beach has lots of activities and i highly recommend the jetskis which are very good fun and extremely fast, this is the nicest beach in playa blanca and perhaps the whole island the resort itself is very good and is perfect for me but perhaps to quite for people my age who like to go get drunk as that is not what this resort is about, if you turn left when you reach the beach out of the back gate the path takes you past the yaiza which is nice with very poor service, the path at night is very badly lit and one night we turned back fearing our safety, in the daylight however it is a very nice walk and take you to a deveolping area where the iberostar hotel is, there is literally nothing to do out this way right now, if you turn right when you reach the beach there is a fantastic walk into playa blanca itself with lots of eating places and shops selling allsorts, the shops seemed to be generally owned by one person which makes playing them off against each other hard work, they sell lots of fakes some of which are very very poor and others which are not, we stayed in the rubicon palace for our first night and were very unimpressed, the pools were saltwater, rooms badly laid out with ants and dark tunnel type paths leading to them which seemed to lead through staff accomodation, the food is also not as good as princess, and the hotel is far to far out of town, we went into the yaiza for a drink one night and the service was shocking, it may look nice but i wouldnt stay there, the taxi is 30 euro from the airport we have booked to return for 2005
Lanzarote Princess - A Great Holiday!!!
My family and I have just returned from a 2 week holiday at this hotel, and feel that we have actually had a holiday to remember. From the moment we arrived, the staff were found to be very helpful in all areas of the hotel and we were made to feel welcome. We had a family room on the ground floor which had been tastefully refurbished, was clean and the air conditioning worked as required. The food was excellent at breakfast, with a choice of at least 6 different main courses in the evening, including a special childrens buffet. The pool area was cleaned daily and there were more than enough sunbeds to go round. In the evening, the entertainment was very good, with acts coming in from outside the hotel, together with the entertainment team putting on their own excellent shows. I would certainly recommend this hotel to other holidaymakers!!!
Playa Blanca - Great resort!
We have just returned from 2 weeks at the Lanzarote Princess. While we thoroughly enjoyed the holiday, (a first for us at a big hotel with so much going on). Our daughter is 4 so we wanted the entertainment and kid's club on hand if she wanted to join in. I would agree that it does not warrant it's 4 star status. Much of the hotel looks old and tired and needs some refurbishment. Having said that we stayed in a refurbished family room (ground floor) which was very spacious and everything was new. But the air con in the bedroom was very noisy and not that effective. The dining room and other bar areas were also air conditioned but the reception wasn't and it was stifling there. The kid's club was a real disappointment. At first there was one member of staff looking after about 20 kids!! Also my daughter decided she wanted to leave the session early and we were horrified when she turned up by herself at our sun loungers!! We and others complained that it was not acceptable and they should have adequate staff if they advertise offering this sort of facility especially as we went in high season. They apologised profusely and assured us they'd have more staff the following day and to give them another go. It got a bit better but we didn't feel 100% happy to leave her there so we didn't use it. The food was very good - alot of choice and always very hot. The reception staff were always polite but my husband sustained an injury at the hotel and we were very disappointed that no-one from hotel management could be bothered to come and see him out of courtesy. The resort of Playa Blanca is lovely and the beaches very clean. We would definitely return to the resort but would stay at another hotel particularly the Timanfaya Palace, Rubicon or the Yaiza which looked stunning.
and again and again and again
My husband and I have stayed at this hotel eight times now over a period of 7 years! Each time we enjoy it as much as the last - and it takes a lot of beating for a quick relaxing break. Hotel staff are very friendly, food excellent, location, location, location - just the ticket for a stroll first thing or in the evening.
Definetly not a 4 star hotel
We have recently returned from a 10 day holiday in lanzarote booked through Thomson. We chose the resort of Playa Blanca for its relative lack of commercialism and we're very glad we did as its a really nice place - very clean and not very built up. We had a day trip to Peurto del Carmen and were very glad we did not end up there! Anyway, the hotel was a disappointment from the moment we got to the room - it was not that of a 4 star (from other reviews I think we were in the non-refurbished bit) with cracked floor tiles and a rusty marked bath to name but a few of the problems. We then discovered that the air-con was not working, not good when its 30 degrees outside! The reception staff did not see this as a problem. We had the worst nights sleep with sweat pouring from us. The next day we found out that some people had been moved to the Timanfaya Palace hotel (another of the H10 chain) which is much nicer and slightly more expensive. Needless to say we were eventually moved there and had a brilliant time from then on. Comparing them I would advise pay the small amount extra and go to the Timanfaya Palace.
great holiday
Ive just come back from my stay at the Princess! i found the staff very friendly No problems with my room it was always very clean well looked after! the tv stations were ok with a surprise of channel 4! . the food was a good surrprise it was always very hot! the bar was cheaper than outside! - the resort was a let down! only 3 bars the rest was made up of restraunts! its not a busy place! if ur elderly or with small kids then its Ideal ! if ur going with mates or on ur own like me! Then "NO" i would not give it the thums up! but the hotel was 10 out of 10 ! the weather was very hot only had 1 cloudy morning but that cleared up by mid-day, to have a bit of shade was nice! , the swimming pool wsa great 4 kids and all! they have a disabled access which i used to get out of the pool just 2 lazy 2 use steps! the water was warm! and not 2 deep im 5'9" and the level came up 2 my mouth.
excellant hotel and resort
we have just returned from a weeks holiday. i cant find any fault with the hotel. the food was always excellant and varied with a number of themed nights. the facilities were very good with a nice large pool area. the entertainment was the usual you expect abroad but with also a piano bar you always had a choice. i was surprised but some comments about the staff. i found them always very helpful and prompt when dealing with your enquiries. the only minor fault was that the rooms seemed a littled tired and needed freshening up however they were clean and comfortable. we also enjoyed the resort itself and hope to return next year.
A Royal Gem
I have just arrived back from a 2 week break and cannot say enough positive things about the hotel. Great location - excellent food - very friendly staff - rooms were recently funished to a very high standard - excellent entainment day & night. This was one of the most relaxing holidays I have had in years. Both my young children had a fantastic holiday. Would not hesitate to book again !!!!!!
Lovely, helpful and friendly Hotel
Booked a week at this hotel the week before we went. When we arrived the staff were extremely welcoming, friendly and helpful. The room was extremely clean, large and had a good balcony. The meals were very good and plenty of choice, even down to if you are on a weight loss diet they had fat/sugar reduced items. There was something for everyone to eat. Whilst there, we never saw one piece of litter anywhere, even round the pool area. They have theme nights for the evening dinners, ie Mexican Night, Italian Night, Canarian Night, etc, but you also have a choice of meals other than the theme night. Entertainment in the hotel is quite good. Children are well catered for regarding childrens clubs. The children we watched were really enjoying themselves with the animation team. Games and activities for the adults was good and those taking part certainly seemed to be enjoying themselves. The sunloungers round the pool area are put out every morning and you hire a mattress and towel each day, the cost being 60c - certainly saves you having to carry beach towels down every day and get them covered in sun cream! To get to the nearest beach - Dorado Beach, you go out of the gate at the back of the hotel, cross the road and walk through a small shopping/bar/cafe centre and come out onto the top of the promenade overlooking the beach - about 2 minutes. The hotel is located for easy access to the town, port, marina and beaches. All in all, we had a very relaxing holiday, and I would certainly recommend the hotel. Rachel and Malcolm
