My husband, three children (14,13 and 2) and myself had a lovely week at the Princess Lanzarote.
On arrival we felt a little disappointed as the decor is in need of updating. Although we're not high flyers, we expected more from the four star hotel.
Having said this, during our week there we were hard pressed to find a thing wrong with this hotel! It was fabulous.
We had breakfast and dinner in the buffet restaurant daily....a mountain of well prepared and beautifully presented food, which fed so many people, with precision that we wondered every evening how they managed it! They did themed evenings, where they would try to offer food from a particular country and the waiters dressed in the approriate dress etc, which made it pleasant. We LOVED the spanish night, which had mounds of seafood...large prawns, paella, squid, etc.
Most nights, we had a coffee after dinner in the piano bar which had a vibey duo playing a range of music on the piano, keyboard and sax.
Staff all round, were courteous and pleasant.
The pools were lovely, several of them centred around a thatched bar area. The baby and I often sat under the thatch to have a drink and some crisps, while watching the boys and dad playing in the pools.
They have an extensive entertainment programme for both adults and children. Starts from age four, so we never made us of it. We tended to walk down to the beach (a block from the hotel) in the mornings, and then use the pool, tennis courts and mini golf on site in the afternoons. You pay a small fee to use the tennis courts and mini golf, however the table tennis and any activities laid on by the hotel are all free. We did enjoy a game of bingo at the pool restaurant one afternoon! We also went to one evenings entertainment (a Kenyan gymnastic type group) which was well supported and fun!
Everything runs like clockwork...you don't have to ask twice for anything....and whilst the staff are not gushy or pushy, they are polite and competent.
Playa Blanca itself is gorgeous. More upmarket we felt that Peurto del Carmen, and certainly quieter, though very quaint, and still has a vibe. The walk along the seafront is wonderful....we enjoyed many lunches at a little restaurant right on the marina, just down from the Nettos shop....in the newer part of Playa Blanca. Cannot recall the name (but staff wear yellow and blue!)...boys loved it, as they give you bread to throw to the fish from the balcony where you sit. Food was always great and it was cheap.
Boys went for rides on the jetskis and enjoyed scuba diving along the rocks. There was always enough space to put your towel down on the beach (or rent deck beds if you'd rather). A variety of snack bars and restaurants all along the beach provide food for hungry boys!!
All in all we loved Lanzarote and can't wait to go back there!
Would recommend this hotel to any family!

We had a wonderful time at the Lanzarote Princess. Yes, the hotel does look a little tired in places (don't we all though!) but that doesn't detract from the experience we had. We have 2 kids - a 13 and 2 year old, so finding a holiday which caters for both age groups is failry difficult.
We had a family room on the ground floor over looking the pool. We were expecting some beasties to invade the room being on the ground floor, but didn't see sight nor sound of any. The room was fine, kept clean and tidy as you would expect.
The food was great. For breakfast there's the usual cereals, breads, cheeses, cakes, fruit, english breakfast, cava..etc. What I did like was being able to watch the chefs make the croissants, doughnuts, eggs, pancakes..etc. Also you were able to ask them to make you an omlette and they make it infront of you.
Dinner was a similar experience in that the chefs made certain things in front of you. There's the usual hot plate and also a children's buffet (which did have chips and beans on each night, but there was a range of other food, and of course, you could also get a range of salads, etc from the adults buffet.) We didn't have a bad experience at dinner, but we were there at 7.00pm (as soon as it opened) due to having a 2yr old.
The pool was lovely and we were in the pool everyday. I must admit, we also saw the grease on the baby pool, but as soon as the pool attendant was notified or saw it himself, he removed it from it. We were mainly in the larger pools though.
They also have a couple of playgrounds on site. There's one for the under 3's with a baby swing (which our 2 yr old was able to go in), a slide, some trikes and a little car. There's also a little plastic house which all the kids seemed to love. For the older kids, on a sanded area, there's some swings and a big activity thing which comprises of 2 slides which you tend to see on parks (hope you know what I mean there!) These are both as much in the shade as possible (they are underneath trees.)
The animation team made the holiday for us though. They were absolutely excellent and had a range of activities for each of the 2 kids clubs (mini 4-12 and maxi 8-16) ranging in events such as waterpolo, football, basketball, table tennis comps, mini golf, french boules and so much more.) There's also activities for grown ups if you want to participate... archery, shooting, football, water polo, the cocktail game, bingo (mixey shakey... oh sugar, ole...etc) aeorbics, water aerobics and salsa dancing to name but a few. You didn't have to participate and once you said "no" they didn't hassle you to join in. Lioni, Jade, Debs, Will, Lucia, Rob, Mary were all superstars - goodness knows how they do it from day to day. Activities start at 10:30 until about 4ish... then resume at 8:30 with the mini disco, certificate presentation and sometimes entertainment.
Playa Dorada beach is just 300m away (basically across the road and down a small hill) where hire of 2 sunbeds and a parasol is 7.50E. This is a lovely beach - the kids had a great time. The village is 250m away so in a nutshell, the location of the hotel is just perfect.
If you're a young couple who like a decent nightlife, then choose somewhere different to playa blanca. This is a place which is more for families or people who don't want a busy night scene (it's a quiet place!)
We hope to go back next year as we did have a terrific time.

Just got back form Lanzarote after staying at the Lanzarote Princess.
The rooms are very spacious and there is a little lounge space. The rooms are cleanish, maids only Tidy your rooms daily. We were put at the back of the hotel on the ground floor and the maids had a habit of leaving the patios doors unlocked after they left the rooms.
All the staff are friendly only a few cannot speak english very well. The food was great and the lady who cooked the eggs, omelettes and fresh pastries every morning did a fanastic job. The kiddies pool was not very clean, everyday there was a grease slick floating on one side of the pool, (sun lotion and hair).
It is not cheap in playa blanca there is not much competition , quite frankly its a rip off. I needed a few nappies for my baby it was 10 euros for 16 nappies and the local makes are not any cheaper,
Beer is 2.80 to 2.50 a pint and a bag of crisps 1.50 a bag, 1.90 for a bottle of water. We only ate out once, meals are on par with england. Best deals are with the chinese restaurants and there is a fantastic indian in town.
I will not be going back to the princess again try cay sun beach around the corner. We went in june 07, it is four star self catering with the choice of half board. Lovely rooms, very well maintained very, very friendly english speaking staff. My choice is Sun beach book with direct holidays.

We were all impressed with the hotel, it's facilities and friendly staff. The choice and range of food was excellent as were the activities during the day. We stayed in one of the newly refurbished rooms which was to a very high standard and even our son's 'older style' single room was very good. Our 3 teenagers enjoyed themselves and the nearby opportunities for evening entertainment. A very good holiday all round.

As a tenth wedding anniversary treat, we left the children with their grandparents and spent a week at the Lanzarote Princess.
We are in our late 30's and were pleased to find the hotel populated with silvertops and young families. Very few tattoos or football shirts were in sight and there were no noisy groups spoiling the relaxed atmosphere. When we were there the guests were mainly British with some Germans and a few French/Spanish/Dutch. We didn't notice any nationality getting preferential treatment from the staff over any other.
Faded splendour would be a suitable description of the hotel. The public areas are spacious and bright but could do with some modernisation. Lots of marble -fine. The dark teak and gaudy gold accents need to go. In fact, the handrails on the marble staircases felt as though they could go at any time without much help! The pool area is lovely and the gardens are well tended. Lots of free sunloungers.
Our room was one which had been refurbished. It was bright and roomy and came with a tv set, two large wardrobes, dressing table, enormous mirror, sofa, beds and cabinets. The standard lamp, telephone and one of the beds were broken but these were fixed quite quickly. The bathroom was pretty grim - only the stubborn understains were holding the bath together! The refurbishment seems to have involved ripping out the teak and replacing it with limed oak furniture and an odd little fence cutting the room in two. Fresh paint and a new shower curtain (when was the last time you saw one of those?) and Bob's your Uncle. Sounds worse than it actually was. The maid service was daily and the place kept spotlessly clean (the bath was simply beyond help).
We didn't take part in the daytime activities but they're there if you want them. In the evenings there's the piano bar or the nightly show. Some of the shows were hilarious but one was terrible, you just need to take the good with the bad. There is a mini disco for children and they seem to be well catered for.
The hotel is well located. Some of the newer ones which we saw during our transfer journey are in the middle of nowhere. The weather was overcast a couple of days and there was an almost permanent wind - sometimes so strong it blew loungers away but generally welcome while the sun was shining.
Speaking of sun, watch out for the suncare advisor who arrives at welcome meetings and several times during the week armed with a credit card machine to offer his free services. We were asked what sun creams we had brought and were then told that they were no good. SPF25 apparently is a total sun block (yet I got a nice tan using this for the first couple of days). He happened to have some products with him... He also advised that he should be consulted in preference to a doctor in the event of sunburn/prickly heat/other skin complaints as doctors charge E100 and prescribe inappropriate treatment! The stuff he was selling may have been fantastic but we didn't hang around to find out.
All in all we had a lovely week and would return with our children without hesitation.

Had stayed at the hotel before and was somewhat dismayed at reading the reviews. Yes, the hotel does need refurbishing but this is being done. The room we had was on the first floor overlooking the pool and had been very tastefully refurbished. A whole corridor a short distance from us was closed and being upgraded. This takes time and I think the hotel chain is working through this. Staff were very friendly and helpful especially reception. We certainly had nothing to complain about.

This hotel is in a very good location just 5 mins from a very nice sandy beach and only 10 mins from the centre of Playa Blanca with all its bars etc.
The hotel could do with upgrading as it is looking old and dated, our room while clean had a tv set that was not much use and the radio kept making funny sounds even in the middle of the night and it woke us up, not good.
Food was good most days but you had to time your visit right as some guests had problems with to many children at meal times. The Christmas Day evening meal gets top marks with a great night had by all.
The animation team could do with training as you waited around to take part in some of the activity's much to long i.e at the French Boules wait for 30mins for your go and that was it just 6 balls each!
Evening entertainment was mixed as with so many children going to the mini disco most of the seats for the shows taken early so we went to the piano bar most nights, the duo that played every night but one played good jazz type music but never spoke to each other let alone the guests, this was very strange but the music was ok.
We went with Cosmos and don't know if they had a rep at the hotel? On our way home we got to the pick up point 15mins before time to find out that the coach had left without us and then were told the coach was on its way back for us by the emergency people but it never returned so we had to get a taxi to the airport but on a Thursday this was a big problem and so would have missed our return flight had it not been delayed by 2 hours I don't think this is very good service from a large tour company.

Great hotel but maybe just a few too many children - mind you that may have been due to the time of year. Word of warning - you WILL come back a few pounds heavier!
Playa Blanca was a lovely place to stay - nice and scenic and relatively quiet though the bars were in very easy walking distance!
The hotel provided entertainment both during the day and also at night time with such acts as "Elvis" tributes and Irish dancing. These were actually of a very high standard compared to some I have been to and I found them very enjoyable.
There are many things to do however by the end of the 2 weeks I felt we had exhausted these and I was ready to return home. Aside from the ample sunbathing territory there are many water based excursions, volcano expeditions and one that saw me riding a camel!
Fantastic place for a bit of chilled out fun in the sun especially if you have children who like adventure!

This was our third visit to the Lanzarote Princess Hotel and although the hotel has somewhat lost its wow factor in appearance in recent years, it is still a pretty good place to be.
The location is unbeatable, a new Marina in one direction and the Harbour in the other, both easy walking distance. Plenty of shops, bars and restaurants to be found nearby. A regular free bus service links the Princess with its sister hotel, the Rubicon Hotel, at the other end of the resort, if a change of scenery is needed. Also a good local reliable bus service into Puerto Del Carmen and to Arricefe, the capital of the Island.
The hotel is still undergoing renovation work and the builders can be very noisy, especially if you have a room underneath their work! So do try to avoid being allocated within their vicinity, and request a room in the opposite wing to where they are working.
The food is quite good, with an enormous choice for both breakfast and dinner, so there should be something for everyone's taste. The Maitre de will try his best to sit couples on tables that nobody else wants, right in the doorway, so don't be bullied into this option, just politely decline his offer! You are free to pick and choose where to sit for each meal and no table reservations are allowed in advance. However, we did notice that there were a few guests who had "persuaded" waiters to reserve tables for them in advance by placing orange juice or wine bottles on them. This is frowned upon by other guests and caused some friction at times, so I wouldn't recommend trying it!
The rooms are fine, but be aware that there are no tea/coffee making facilities and take a travel kettle with you if you like a hot drink in your room. A fridge can be hired via reception, for a charge of E2.50 a day, but if you order in excess of roughly E25 worth of drinks it will be provided free of charge. So it's worth ordering a few beers or cokes at reception when you request a fridge, then the fridge comes free. Also the room safe is worth having at a charge of E30 for two weeks, with an E10 refundable deposit included.
Daily events are posted on the notice board, with no pressure to join in but a range of games from archery to mini golf available to play in groups organised by the Animation team. Evenings are relaxing, with a choice of dancing to live music or just listening to it with a drink in the "Piano Bar". Then later in the evening a cabaret/show every night in the bigger ballroom. So again, something for most people to enjoy.
The facilities at the Princess are good, lovely pools and more than enough sunbeds to go round. The reception staff are generally helpful and genial, but there are always some surly characters at every hotel, so nothing new there then!
Our room was kept spotlessly clean and the general upkeep of the hotel was very good, clean and tidy.
Overall a good hotel and we would certainly return again.

We asked for a top room and was given ground floor next to toilet, everybody looked in our room. Someone had been smoking in the room, we have still cant breath. We asked to be moved but was told we could not.
This holiday cost us a lot of money and saved for years we have contacted Airtours with no reply this was our last holiday. What a way to remember it, will you publish the truth I don't think so this was the truth.

We visited the Lanzarote Princess (all 7 of us, 5 adults and 2 children ages 13 and 6) in August 2008. We were bit apprehensive about this resort, as some of the reviews made it sound like a nightmare, but we were most pleasantly surprised, as the Princess was nothing like we expected it to be. The resort was spotlessly clean,(no bugs )and the staff couldnt have been more helpful if they tried. The food was lovely, and the menu was changed each night, the choice was great. There was no shortage of loungers by the pools, which were'nt anything like as cold as some of the reviews had said. One of the very few things we would have liked, was being able to have a cocktail with our dinner, and not just wine or beer. Everything considered, this was the best resort we have stayed in for the last 4 years, and we will certainly be going again in 2009, finances permitting. Thank you Thompsons and H10.
