We were booked for a week over new year, and were really excited to be coming here, the website reviews were of friendly staff and a great welcome.
On arrival our welcome was anything but friendly, but put it behind us. The room was decidedly average considering we were paying over 30pounds a night and was full of ants.
We tried to cancel the room with 24 hours notice but they wouldn't refund any money for the week saying that they had booked the room for us and now it would be empty.
The manager didn't meet us twice when we arranged to see him, and was v. rude and hung up on us when we called him and asked for his full name. When he met us (late) the next day he was rude, threatening, swearing and very agressive (loads happened but too much to go into). He kept ignoring us and walking away when we were speaking to him, and then just shouted at us in Thai.
We spotted in their bookings book that they had actually filled our room from that day on, so they were actually getting double the money for the room. After 2 hours of some difficult discussion, the manager told us 'we can go to reception and get our [swearing] money' at which point we got a refund and left.
This hotel is probably reasonably priced during non peak season, but they hike up their prices well above average at peak times, and there are plenty of other places which are much nicer for cheaper. The pool was great and right on the beach and the restuarant served decent food but was more expensive than most other places.
And you know if you have a problem at this hotel, the manager is absolutely horrific.

Chaba Samui Beach Resort was located in a fantastic place - probably one of the best locations on Chewang Beach Road.
When we arrived in Thailand my boyfriend’s luggage was missing, the staff when we arrived at the hotel were very helpful about this and continually called lost luggage to check if his bag had arrived, and when it finally did the staff gave us a free lift to the airport to pick it up.
We had to move rooms once though because I think it was the aircon unit on top of the hotel was very very loud and we couldn’t sleep, so they put us on the middle floor.
The food was gorgeous and the lounge area, rooms, hotel in general was very clean.
There is lots of vegetation there and this was the view we had from our balcony although we were on the beach view unless you are in about 3 particular rooms you don’t actually get to view the beach from your balcony.
Also, you are mad if you do not pay for one of the Thai massages they provide on the beach as this was just fantastic!!
Overall I would definitely rate this hotel at an 8/10 minus the two points on balcony view and noisy top floor rooms (air con units). You will enjoy it though!

I stayed at this hotel in March/ April 08 and had a really good time. I was a bit shocked when we first arrived at how dated and tacky the reception area was but was greeted with friendly and helpful hotel staff.
The hotel is split over a road in two blocks one block next to the beach and one over looking the lake. We stayed in the lake wing. The room was of a good standard compared to the reception area with a huge floor to ceiling window over looking an enormous lake with mountains in the background it was lovely. However I realised there was no balcony which we missed when getting ready at night and as I was sharing with my mum there was nowhere we could escape from one another!
I have previously read in other reviews that the road is a problem and is dangerous, this is rubbish! Its tiny, one way has a crossing and generally there is a member of staff there to cross you over which you do not need anyway!
The downside was the confusion between free water in the rooms and the expensive one which had to be paid for as sometimes the maid would leave the wrong one and no tea and coffee sachets. We had to ask several times but they didn't understand so we had to hide tea and coffee in our suitcase for the next day!
The beach is minutes away form both wings, through the hotel complex and is like paradise. Eat fresh fish & corn bbq'ed on the beach lovely! Try a tour of the island with a driver from the hotel ask at reception, better value than other tours. Go to Bo-put fishermans village, for good food and drinks.
The manicures and beach massages at the hotel are fab and the food was great as well. Over all really nice friendly hotel.
