Jan 2007, Miss N Daye

I was just browsing and noticed there were no comments on this hotel. I stayed here with my boyfriend for 2 weeks in January 2006. It was a lovely experience and wish I could go every year. The staff were very friendly and always very polite. We stayed on a B&B board... more

Fantastic but beware
Me and my partner have just stayed in the Baan Samui for two weeks this July. Everything about the Hotel was perfect and the Staff are excellent. We could not fault the Hotel on anything but please see below. Beware - Do not hire a jet ski on the beach in front of the Hotel. The jet ski's are mafia run and they will make up a story of you scratching the Jet Ski and try to charge you £500 for this mark you never made. If you do not pay the fee the police show up and then you not only have to pay the fine but you have to pay the police also. Im speaking from experience and i saw this happen to many other people while we were in Koh Samui. Please note the Hotel is not connected at all with this scam....!!
fantastic holiday
Stayed at the Baan Samui and had a fabulous time. The hotel was very clean fantastic food incredibly friendly staff who couldn't do enough to help you. Have a facial or massage in the spa room or out the front on the beach, enjoy a moonlight dinner by the beach. Housekeeping was very good and thorough everyone was really friendly. Would definitely go again. Say hello to lok the waiter in the restaurant he was a fantastic guy.
great resort...
This resort has everything that one wants, (well except a fitness centre). If you like mexico or mexican decor then as soon as you walk into this joint u will love it. The rooms run from the lobby on the main street to the pool area and then u can step from the pool deck onto the best part of chaweng beach. The location is unbeatable. All the rooms overlook a central courtyard which runs down the middle. We stayed on the first floor and this gave us a small balcony with table and chairs and a views of the pool and as a bonus a samll beach view. Breakfast is included and has it all, eaten in the cafe area overlooking the pool and the beach. Sunbeds and plenty of them are available to guests, around the pool and also on the beach. They have roped off a swimming area in the ocean and this prevents the jet skis etc interrupting your swim. Its a great idea and the only resort i could see doing this. The staff were very friendly and not intrusive and we couldnt fault them at all. overall, the place certainly is not five star, but it is clean, rooms are great, great staff and as i said it has everthing that u need. The location is great, close to shopping, supermarket, pharmacy (across the road) and also close to great restaurants. On the main street and also on the beach area. As other posters have mentioned, they are b uidling next door, but at the moment this is not a problem, if we didnt see them when we entered our room, then we woujld not have know that they were there. Your private balcony is on the opposite side of your room to the building site anyway.
Nice hotel, fantastic location
This is the second time we've stayed at Baan Samui and its seems to have improved. The food in both its restaurants is much better, and the deluxe superior rooms have been renovated. The hotel is two 3 storey buildings facing each other across a garden walkway leading to the pool & beach. The location of the hotel is excellent, in the middle of Chaweng Beach with Tropical Murphy's irish bar next door. The current building next door is for new beach bungalows, it looks like this has only just started as they are digging foundations, so be warned there might be noise over the next few months. On the up side, the hotel is very clean with a lovely pool, superb beach and lots of sunbeds. Would definitely recommend.
Charming hotel/Good value
Lovely quaint hotel smack bang in the centre of Chaewing Beach .Iwould thoroughly recomend this hotel to anyone who wants to be within walking distance of everything with no taxi fares needed.Hotel runs down to the beach with lovely pool and lots of free sunbeds.Food was superb and people extremely friendly. One word of warning they were just starting to build on the land next door and although it did not affect us who knows what noise there could be in the following months
the facts
I stayed in the baan samui for 10 days in august with my partner. this was our first trip outside europe and we were expecting paradise...found! the island itself is amazing and the baan samui turned out to be a wonderful hotel. we had a ground level room right beside reception in the gardens which was great as it was so quiet at night. the rooms were clean and we had a fab king bed. facilities are great: individually controlled and quiet air-con which kept us cool all night. satellite tv with 2 movie channells, mini bar which was used regularly, hair dryer (but if you have long hair like me bring your own or you will be drying for half an hour), beach towels as well as bath, bath robes, slippers, flip-flops all provided. you get 2 free bottles of water a day and room is cleaned daily too. bathroom was nice with bath with built in shower and a lot of shelving for "stuff" of which i had more than i needed. 24 hour room service from a large menu. the room was comfortable and felt like home for our stay. the staff were nice and helpful, especially the guy who stands around the lobby just greeting people...we still can't figure out what he actually 'did' if anything, but he was nice, and the car parking attendants were sooo helpful (getting us parked) when i hired a jeep for a couple of days. the food in the restraunts was lovely especially breakfast which was fab! drinks/cocktails were so well presented (in pinapples etc) and everything is great value for money. the pool was perfect, it was always quiet and there were always 2 loungers and a parasol available. the pool terrace leads onto the spectacular beach where the hotel has sun loungers for hotel guests only. the water is as hot as a warm bath. you will get a bed on the beach up to about 10:30am. there is a beach massage tent beside the steps to the pool, only €4 for an hour body massage, foot massage etc. my partner prefered the hotel spa which is small and considerably dearer but still cheap at about €12 for a thai massage. he got massages there about 3-4 times, i preffered the beach. the baan samui is located right in the middle of chaweng strip and on a fab part of the beach. perfect for shopping, dining and bowling (just above mc donalds accross the road) and tropical murphy's irish bar is next door! lastly one major word of advice, if you are planning on getting anything (suits/dresses) tailored, go to Armani International Suits! we went there to see prices and my partener got fitted, i said i would go back the next day and didn't, instead i went somewhere i thought was cheaper and it turned out rubbish, they only wanted to make the suits in the style that they thought suited me and not what i wanted (called Baron Fashion). i ended up spending €250 on 2 suits and a rubbish dress AND anded up going back to Armani to get something made properly. there are lots of Armanai's so make sure you go to the International Suits one, its huge, opposite the central samui beach resort, ask for johnny (short guy) he is cool and completely understands what you want. all in all it was an amazing holiday and the baan samui was lovely although we both agreed that while it is pefect for a first visit to samui we would spend the couple of hundred quid extra next time for a luxury resort as there is a huge difference in standard for the small difference in cost. also we would probably stay north of chaweng around the imperial boathouse area as it didn't have the hustle and bustle of chaweng and was only a minute in a taxi away. have a great time, hope this helps!
can't beat happy hour cocktails served at your lounger
a bit late with the review but wanted to do it anyway! Stayed at the hotel with my partner in June/July 2004 as beach part of a holiday in Thailand. The hotel has to have one of the best locations in Chaweng - its right in the middle of the beach so you can vary your direction when you go out for dinner at night - and its on one of the best sections of the beach, which has direct access from the pool area. The rooms were very comfortable, spotless and had everything you could want in them, we had a ground floor room with a lovely little verandah and we were closer to reception than the bar so it was quite quiet at night. Can't fault the food or the service, the staff were excellent and always cheerful. We loved the chap with the guitar who sang requests in the bar at night - he does an excellent version of "Stand By Me"! Happy hour cocktails at 4 in the afternoon need no further explanation!. It was my partners first visit to Thailand and to the Far East and he enjoyed it so much we are heading to Malaysia this year. If we ever went back to Koh Samui we would have no hesitation staying at the Baan.
Lovely place to stay.
We stayed here in May 2004. The hotel consists of two long blocks facing each other across a garden with trees and plants down the middle leading to the fabulous pool. The rooms are colourful and rustic but very spacious with their own balcony or patio if you are staying downstairs. The aircon was excellent as was the mini bar which we kept stocked up with booze from the shop literally opp. the hotel. The beach towels were good as was breakfast. The pool area is next to the restaurant which is right next to the drop-dead gorgeous beach. This hotel is on one of the best sections of Chaweng Beach. We would definitely use this hotel again. The security guard outside the front loves to practice his English - so please do chat to him - he is very friendly.
Terrific Hotel
My two friends and I stayed at the Baan in July 2004 and found it to be spotlessly clean. Yes, it is a"colorful" decor, but hey, we're on Holiday here! Staff super friendly and helpful, location unbeatable, great pool, and on a fantastic stretch of beach with towels and sun lounges provided. Breakfast every morning was really something else and perfect for our daily hangovers!!! Happy hour at 4.pm is worth hanging around for, if only for the free accompanying snacks. Great value, very comfortable and very picturesque. Tip: buy your alcohol from the supermarket across the road and store it in your minibar, much cheaper.
Nice Hotel, great location
I stayed in the Baan Samui in June 2004 with my husband and two friends. Although it is a bit 'colourful' and the rooms a bit rustic, there was everything you could want in them, including a/c, umbrellas, slippers, flip flops, dressing gowns, tea and coffee making facilities, a mini bar and a huge bed. The hotel was in a very central location to the shops and bars, and was on the most beautiful beach. The hotel provided free sunbeds and beach mats and towels. We found that the beer was colder and cheaper from the beach sellers.
