Fantastic Hotel- Fantastic Holiday!
What a lovely hotel! My best friend and I just got back from a 7 night girlie holiday to Alanya staying in the Grand Okan. It really is a lovely hotel that exceeded our expectations completly. The hotel is clean and tidy and the staff are excellent. We dont know why people are leaving bad reviews. We were only B&B at the hotel but most evenings we ate in the hotel too the food was lovely, and pretty much the same as you found in other restauraunts nearby. We didnt have the evening buffet that was provided for the Half Board guests- but it looked different to what they had on the regular menu. There is a main restaurant - you can sit inside or outside near the pool or have room service. The bar is also fantastic - drinks are not cheap though and as we found out- it can be easy to rack up quite a bill as everything is charged to you room and not paid for at the time. Cocktails were from €8 to €10 each, but there is a happy hour everynight from 10pm-11pm when it is buy one get one free on all drinks! The pool bar is really fantastic- the staff are lovely and the bar in the pool became a favourite of ours! The rooms are lovely- we paid extra to have a room with a balcony overlooking the beach which was really fanastic!Although the rooms that have a mountain view are equally amazing. Rooms are clean and had everything that we could have needed. It had a safe, minibar, aircon, satellite tv, hairdryer, balcony with table and chairs, table and chair in the room, desk, wardrobe, ensuite bathroom with a really good shower and 24 hour room service. The location of the grand okan is really amazing, from the hotel pool area - it is about 1 minute walk to the beach! Ideal! The location in relation to the town is perfect- not too near but not too far. Easily in walking distance from the centre- about 20 mins if that ( based on a slow pace and a few stops at the shops on the way!) It is straight forward to get to the centre, the harbour where you can find the shops, bars, restaurants and nightclubs- which are really great! We stayed at grand okan mainly because of the reviews on this site and really i cant fault it! Despite what people say, alanya is very safe and we didnt have any problems at all. We really loved the hotel, location and people. Okan is run by an english manageress who is extremly helpful and friendly. All the staff in the hotel are lovely too- they even have a photographer who will take looads of photos of you and if you want to buy one you can- no pressure at all. All in all we had loooads of fun at the grand okan and cant wait to go back. Fantastic value for money! Dont hesitate to leave me a message if you have any questions about our trip.
Not a 4* Hotel - Disapointing
This is NOT a 4* hotel. After Reading the reviews on this site my husband and I were looking forward to our stay in Turkey. But after our experience I am wondering if the reviews are from genuine customers of the hotel. Flight and transfers were all fine; the disappointment came once we checked in. The hotel is tired and in need of a good lick of paint and some training for the staff to bring it up to an acceptable level to call its self a 4* hotel. We had a room over looking the main road and it was so noisy we had to buy earplugs to sleep. The room was clean and the maids do a great job putting clean towels and fresh bed linen on most days. The main grievance was the food. The breakfast was fine with lots to choose from but we were extremely disappointed at dinner. The salads ok, very repetitive but edible with but the main dishes (approx 3 choices) were disgusting turkey, turkey and more turkey. . After a couple of days we couldn’t stomach it anymore and ate out for 5 of the 7 nights we were there and that was fantastic, we ate proper Turkish food. I am not sure why the food had to be of such poor quality and lack of imagination as the beach bar/restaurant Green beach with is affiliated with the hotel was great, good quality food and friendly staff. To some it all up go to the Okan but eat out. There are lots of places to eat and I don’t mean the Tex-mex or buger king……….
Top Holiday
Have just returned from a wonderful week staying in this hotel and just wanted to thank the Hotel and it's staff for a fab time. Hotel was very clean throughout. Staff: really helpful and extremely friendly which really made the holiday. Location: ideal for anyone who prefers not to be right in the noise but it can be reached easily if you want to party! Half Board: the food was fine although we did eat out a few times as it was a bit samey each evening and we craved our full english brekkie a few mornings which many other restaurants offer (Dolly's along the beach road heading towards the Tennis courts) Swimming Pool: very clean and nice to sunbathe around (you will get discount for the beach sunbeds if you ask at reception). All in all a great holiday and our first time in Turkey, we will definately return. Sarah & Tony, Gosport
First timers
Newly retired but reasonably young at heart - we had never been to Turkey before - what a fabulous experience. No more Canary Islands for us! Grand Okan Hotel is relatively old and has been refurbished, but the cleanliness, facilities and services more than made up for any minor shortfalls. Towels changed every day, bedding every two days and during our stay new ortho beds! The Manageress, Amanda, her husband, receptionist Burko (sorry if spelling is wrong!) were so friendly and helpful but not intrusive. We get cross to read reviews regarding dislike of food - if you go to Turkey surely you should expect Turkish food ? We stayed for 3 weeks and during our stay never had a meal we did not like. Cleopatra beach lived up to its reputation as did the Harbour and Castle. We loved the calm oasis of the parks and the overall cleanliness of Analya especially the restaurants/bars and their loos. The absence of time share, sunglass, and watch sellers was appreciated. Friendly genuine people, excellent value for money - we'll be back.
fantastic spring holiday.........
Arrived in the middle of the night. A friendly face greeted us at reception and we were promtly offered something to eat before being shown to our wonderful room with a view to the sea... During our stay, the breakfast was very varied and evening dinner was always plentiful, varied and warm. Lots of Turkish dishes, but this suited us as we came to Turkey for this. The staff speak English and German and some a little Dutch. We used the internet in the lobby and had no problems. Not much entertainment but everything is very near the hotel so we were out nearly every night. The weather was fantastic while we were there and as the hotel is only 50 mtrs from the beautiful Cleopatra beach, we were there for a great sun tan every day. Highly recommended for all ages.
Well recommended
Just come back from a very relaxing holiday in Alanya and stayed in the Grand Okan. I read the reviews on the hotel first and booked: and it was perfect. The food is as good as any kebab house on the mainstrip, the staff are more than welcoming and helpful should you need anything at all and the room had the all important air con! The review also said the beach was 50metres away, but it isn't, its 20 metres away! Top tip: find the manageress Amanda, she's from Rochdale and she can give you all the advise you need. Happy days. (Hello Etha!)
luxury on a budget
if you want a great hotel and holiday i would definitely recommend grand okan . the rooms are very clean , food was excellent plenty of choice. i am a fussy eater but my wife and i enjoyed every meal. having read other revues on this site about the size of balconies , ok they are on the small side but hey what the hell, what do you want to do line dancing . also someone complained about internet connection, so leave the damn thing at home , you are on holiday , get a life. staff could not do enough for us and are always happy and cheerful, a sign of good management.
We had a great time in Grand Okan Hotel
Me and my sister just returned from a week in Grand Okan Hotel and we loved it there so much that we're actually going back in a couple of months. The hotel is in a perfect location, just a minute away from the best beach in Alanya - Cleopatra Beach and about 15 min walk from the city centre. The staff of the hotel is very friendly and very helpful. The manager, who is English, is also amazing and willing to help. We had some problems with the transfer back to the airport (not booked through the hotel but we booked it privately) she called them and sorted out all the problems for us, which was great. The rooms are quite small but they're good size, every room has a balcony and a great view (if you don't get the sea view then you'll get the view on beautiful mountains and the city - like we did and it's just as amazing as the sea view). The only downside is the food. It's quite good but it tends to be the same every day and it can get a bit boring after a few days. There is a 3 bars there, two at the swimming pool and one inside. Generally, the hotel is very clean and nice with polite and always smiling staff. We had great memories of our stay there and we definitely would recommend it.
almost perfect
I spent in this hotel two weeks and it were very good weeks. Hotel has perfect position. It is very near beautiful Cleopatra Beach, just one hundred meters. Some meters further is very pleasure promenade with many palms, fountains, small bridges, football and basketball fields. 500 meters away it is a small cave and 5 km castle with great walls. The view from this castle is amazing. There are many restaurants, bars, shops, markets near hotel. Shoppers are very insistent and you have to be very careful. They want to exploit naïve people. Okey just back to hotel. I had a nice spacious room with sea view and balcony. From my balcony I can observe every day like the sea changing. Food was good, especially dinner with various meals. But breakfast can be more different. Atmosphere in this hotel was very pleasure. The biggest advantages of Grand Okan are just workers of this hotel. Managers, receptionists, waiters, maids etc. are very helpful and friendly. It was pleasure speaking with this people. The only minus was problems with internet connection. Wireless is in the lobby and first floor, and I lived on the second. But I heard that internet soon will be available in all hotel.
Excellent winter escape
Having stayed in hotels all along the Turquoise Coast during this winter (07/08), I can attest that most of the good hotels prefer to close their doors to tourists during the slow winter season. Happily, Alanya's mild climate makes it an attractive destination in all seasons, and the Grand Okan never closes its doors. Because of the season, I was able to book a room on arrival at Alanya. The extremely friendly front desk staff went out of their way to make sure I had everything I needed to enjoy my stay, and the rest of the staff were always helpful and polite. During my stay the guests were mostly older German or Dutch couples, so naturally the hotel staff spoke those languages more fluently, but English was fine for communication -- it's just harder to understand the jokes. The reception staff, of course, spoke perfect English, and the very friendly hotel manager *is* English. The seaside rooms are truly excellent and worth the reservation -- great sunset views of the Mediterranean sea, separated from the beautiful beach by a long strand of parks (and, yes, a small, nicely kept cemetary, which didn't bother me in the least). Unfortunately internet access was only available on the city-facing side, so I only got to enjoy the beachside room for 2 days out of my week stay. Meals were buffet-style and plentiful, featuring a mixture of Turkish and more standard international fare. Having spent more than a month in various parts of Turkey, I'm shamefully relieved that the breakfast included not only the traditional Turkish stuff (cheese, cucumber, tomato, processed meat) but "normal" western food as well (cereal, pancakes, fruit).
