We stayed in the Bangkok Palace hotel as our first hotel as part of a trip to South East Asia. We were impressed at how cheap the hotel was compared to equivalent stars and rating hotel in London. Once you have stayed in Thailand a bit you realise that it was actually quite expensive, in Thai terms. But as a place to relax and wind down in once you have spent a day traveling, its perfect.
When we first entered the hotel we were impressed by all the marble everywhere! When the taxi pulled up outside we were convinced it wasn’t our hotel! The staff were really friendly, as goes for almost all Thai people! We spent the first hour with our jaws dropped, the room was lovely, a massive bed with lovely covers, beautiful bedside lamps in Thai style. A combination digital safe in the wardrobe, 24 hour room service.. it was brilliant! The windows in our room went from the ceiling to the floor, and the view across Bangkok was spectacular.
We ordered room service food at 2am and it came, fast, cheap, beautifully presented and tasted amazing!
There were taxis waiting outside, we took one of these once and it was a mistake, the driver took us to a handy craft store instead of wat po! We found that it was much better to ask a member of staff within the hotel for a taxi, and a reliable and honest taxi would be ordered. There was also a travel agents in the hotel, where we booked the next hotel for our stay. She was really helpful and the prices were good.
There was breakfast included in the stay and was interesting! The food was good, it was just our first breakfast in Thailand, so we had to learn that they eat rice and hot food ALL day! Again, friendly, smiley staff.
The bathroom wasn't huge, but perfectly adequate. And clean, which was good.
we went for a swim at night, which was a lovely experience. They switched the light on just for us as no one else was swimming. You can see the big lights/sign of the hotel and it was definately an amazing experience.
I would Definately recommend the Bangkok palace hotel!

Very central location! The view from our window wasnt beautiful overlooking a busy main road but you cant expect anything better to be honest when you're in the center of Bangkok. Also when you come out of the hotel you are instantly hit by being under a flyover!
However, the rooms were brilliant! Very comfortable and the bath room was clean. we had a family suite where we had an interconnecting door to the other room and it was great! Only problem was the air con didnt seem to be very cool but that was fine as we turned the air con on in the other room at full blast and kept the doors open.
The breakfast was quite good. many options and quite healthy. the hotel was very centrally located which meant a few minutes walk and u get to more restaurants, shops and hairdressers!
Be aware though as not all the taxi drivers speak english! also make sure you tell them where you want to go or they will take to some dodgy place where obviously they get paid commission if they bring clients to some dodgy back street bar etc! Also, when you are in a taxi, make sure they are using the meter! if they refuse to do so just get off and jump into the one behind!
