" A touch of class "

With the awesome back drop of mount teide and the hotel sophisticated look from arrival to departure we were made to feel valued customers & the staff were extremly helpful and we felt very spoiled.
Our hotel room seemed very sound proof and we didnt know we had anyone in the adjoining rooms until we saw them
The Hotel is extremly clean, well thought out.
They provide hairdryers and towels. As well as soap shampoo etc.
The pool area was wonderful overlooking the beach with a lift down onto the pavement that adjoins the beach.
The restaurant was as described and there is choice for almost any dietry need, and we were advised that you can talk to the head chef should you have aditional issues with diet.
We stayed there late september early october 2009 and the weather was 28 degrees almost everyday.
The only drawback we can see was that there is not a kettle in your room and the activities were not very apparant to us though in truth we werent interested in participating in them anyhow . But I did think that its not a hotel I would take children too. For us that thought was a bonus as that is exactly what we were looking for.

Advice: Quiet beautiful area with plenty to do

Activities:

Good for: Beach

" Don't go there "

We have just returned from the Guayarmina Princess and I must say this is not a 4 star hotel. I have stayed in better 2 stars. My daughter and son-in-law had cockroaches in their room. The pool are is lethal it is so slippy. The food is geared more for the German market and is barely warm. At the pool bar a cheese and ham toastie consisted of 2 slices of this toast with cold ham and cheese inside - for 4 euros 20. The beer at the hotel is 3 euros 55 a pint for Estrella. We arrived at 9.30pm and had to wait half an hour at reception. The hotel looks good from the outside, but I would describe it at 'All fur coat and no knickers !!'

Advice: Motown Diner very good. And Moonlight pub

Good for: Beach

" Guayarmina Princess "

We have just returned from a ten day stay at this hotel and were very impressed. We are a family of four and shared a very large and well equiped room. The hotel was immaculately clean and pool areas just the same. The pools were great for parents and kids alike and there was a lifeguard on duty during the day which added some reassurance! The food selection was good and service by the staff was fantastic.
Evening entertainment was generally good and the kids club and mini disco was enjoyed by our 4 year old son. The only things I would say could have been better was to have been a little more choice in the way of baby food and we also found the hotel bar very expensive with beer at around e3.50 - Compare this with all the other bars and restaraunts on the island that charge just 1 = 1.50 per pint as it is a tax free island!
Overall very good, would recommend
Locally plenty to do just the usual annoyance of the people trying to braid your hair or sell you sunglasses!!!

Advice: Nice area with a good beach

Activities: Recommend a trip to Siam Park (water park) Fantastic fun for all ages

Good for: Beach

" lovely location "

Just returned from a weeks stay at the Guarymarina princess Hotel in Costa Adeje, after reading some reviews I was a little apprehensive about going, but no need, had a fantastic holiday due to this wonderful hotel with its fantastic location, only 15-20 minutes from Tenerife airport and the first hotel drop off.Very impressive looking hotel from the outside and the interior very grand, quick check in by helpful reception staff, lovely clean room with views of the sea and pool, maids cleaned rooms every day and left fresh towels. Food in restaurant was lovely and always lots of choice, waiters were exceptionally friendly, entertainment was varied with two different shows every night, prices of drinks in hotel a bit pricey but they do have two happy hours every day and nearby bars were very reasonable with most of them selling cold beers at 1 euro. Hotel overlooking lovely beach which is reached via lift, very close to restaraunts and bars but didnt like being hassled by touts in Costa Adeje in every bar trying to get your custom. Overall the Guarymarina Princess Hotel is a wonderful, clean hotel in an excellent location with warm and friendly staff.

" no mention of jacket and tie "

we stayed at this hotel from 19 dec to 26 dec 08
hotel was clean 100%
food ok but nothing spectacular
we had great room about 20 metres from the pool which was great as we never heard any loud music coming from concert room but i know that lots of other guests did,
drinks were a bit expensive plus the euro and £ were on even keel
3.50 e for a pint of lager but if you took the lift to the ground floor and went to the beach bars many were seving a pint for 1 euro,
the lift down to the seafront was quite handy but closed at 8 o clock so a long walk round thereafter,
biggest dissapointment was that was told when we got there that xmas day lunch was only for guests who wore a shirt tie and dinner jacket,a letter before we left home would have been handy as we would have packed a one,and no exceptions by the way as we tried to persuade the rep to fight for us,we had to opt for chinese 3 course meal..
we came back from xmas lunch(chuinese restraunt) to find our room had been flooded out,so our xmas day consisted of no gala lunch plus packing suitcases to change rooms and not a sorry or complementary drink...nothing,

Advice: take plenty of money with you

Activities: pubs on the sea front

" A week in Guayarmina "

We went as a family, 2 adults, 11 and 6 year old kids and were very impressed with our holiday. The hotel itself is very impressive when you enter with lots of plants and a piano bar. Reception polite but not all that efficient especially at sorting electrical faults in your room. The hotel has an unusual layout with twin rooms above reception level and family rooms below pool level facing the front promenade and sides. The lifts take a bit of getting used to but overall it works well. you can take a lift direct from the poolside to the beach promenade so hotel is in a perfect situation just 20 metres from the sand
The room we had (328) was on the left side of the hotel and had a partial sea view form the balcony. It was slightly bigger than other hotel rooms we have stayed in and apart from some dodgy electrics was perfectly adequate with English television channels and twin beds. The corridors were partially open air and air conditioning was included, but not a fridge or safe deposit box
The pools are on a terrace are from where you can watch out accross the bay. There was no problem getting sun beds when we were there
The restaurant served a buffet breakfast and evening meal of wide choice and fairly good standard but always following a standard format. The daily roast was excellent. The bar tarrif did require a second mortgage especially for soft drinks, they work out at 15 times dearer than the Netto supermarket!!. In contrast the soft scoop ice cream is as cheap as the beach shops. We did not sample the entertainment but it looked to be reasonable and fairly varied in the evening and lame during the day
I would say Lore parc is a must and if you are going to a water park go to Siam Park on a double ticket with Lore parc. Thomson push you towards Aqualand ( i think they have an arrangement with them) but from the outside Aqualand looks a dump compared to Siam, think about comparing a brand new Tesco store to an ageing Spar shop!
Overall excellent apart from stupidly dear soft drinks, poor room maintenance and a non appearing fridge. The location more than makes up for that and we will go back again

Advice: Nice tidy family resort with plenty of shops and bars

Activities: Siam Park is a must

Good for: Beach

" I have just returned from the... "

I have just returned from the Guayarmina Princess after a 2 week stay for my honeymoon. We had been recomended to stay there by my husbands parents who had stayed at the sister hotel. Our first impression was a good one as the hotel looks beautiful with a lovely entrance but as soon as we got to reception the receptionists was rude and was hurrying through evrything.

We were shocked to find out the price of the safe and fridge, which was over 100 euros for both (you get 5euros which is disgraceful!)

We payed extra for a room with a sea view as we were told the suites which we originally wanted overlooked the front entrance and had no extras which is silly at over £300 a week extra. When we arrived at our room 309 (which is a long walk from reception) we were dissapointed the room was nothing special which we though would be at the price we payed. We had two single bed (we were on honeymoon!) so my husband went to reception and was told there was no double beds?! We were told when we booked that we would have a double bed. There was a sofa bed which was so uncomfortable that we didnt stay on it.
The bath was terrible, i had to get in the bath to put the plug in and the room was very dark. The rooms had obviously not been decorated recently.

The food was very basic and repetative and we soon got sick of having pasta and chips. We often didnt go down to breakfast as it was quite basic and not that tasty!

I wouldnt recommend this hotel to young people and definetly not for honeymooners, we didnt even get any perks as ive seen in many other hotels.

" As a well travelled middle aged... "

As a well travelled middle aged parent with a young family I offer my observations. Our first visit to Tenerife and the trip from the airport to resort doesn’t give a great impression of the island. The hotel however is impressive, spacious marble & glass foyer, clean, well maintained and in a very good location within the resort. Guests during our stay were predominantly British with the inevitable family from hell. Chatting around the pool, it appears the location of the family rooms seems to be the biggest cause of disappointment and in fairness the position of some did appear grim. Many of the hotel's rooms do not have a view but for us this wasn’t an issue as we only used it for changing & sleeping. From the reviews some guests incl myself tried to request "better" rooms but with few available this approach will be in vain so don’t get your hopes up. Our room was very large and clean, there were a few minor maintenance issues and the bed was not the most comfortable that I’ve slept on. To use the safe or if you want a fridge you will have to pay extra. Our cleaner was very good but may leave your window open, first time it happens you think you’ve been burgled!
The pools are relatively small and poolside is treacherous. At peak times, a sun bed by the pool will require an early morning start but there are just enough. You may find there some unusual pool rules but these are only intermittently enforced. The "life guard" was a gesture, pleasant but totally ineffective.
Drinks, especially water & soft drinks, ice cream etc aren't cheap and the costs will add up, I you want a 2 min walk to the local Netto will save you a lot of money.
The food was of good quality there was plenty of choice both at breakfast and dinner but it could have been warmer. My gripes; drinks in the evening are extra and start at E2.20 for 500ml of water; juice at breakfast tasted of additives; some kids & adults haven't grasped the finer points of self service hygiene but that’s not the hotels fault. Note the gents must wear trousers for dinner but the women can get away with murder.
I found the staff to be mostly friendly & efficient but as there was the odd one who could benefit from a lesson in courtesy however this was also true for the guests. As in most hotels a lot of the staff are actually immigrants. A bit of Spanglish, a chat or smile always helps and leaving a Euro for your cleaner works wonders.
Entertainment is a mixed bag and we all have differing tastes, bingo, parrot or snake shows aren’t mine but the odd tribute band was ok and the acrobats, comedy & magic acts particularly good. Beware of the invitation to have your child’s photo taken after a show as the costs are exorbitant and to try and take your own would seriously offend. With two "shows" a night there should be something that you will find entertaining but better to find your own amusement in Costa Adeje within a few minutes walk or perhaps a 10 Euro taxi to Playa De Las Americas / Los Christianos.
Walking along the sea front at least there are no time share salesmen but the café touts & hair braiders are just as annoying be prepared to be accosted every 10 metres.
The beach entrance closes 9ish. It made me smile to be told by “security” that I have to walk to the front. It’s uphill & not far, but why he let you in escapes me.
Daytime entertainment is weak and limited to a few pool / poolside games plus booles, archery & “shooting” for the adults. The kids club couldn’t tempt my 8 year old who thought it childish and didn’t appear to be over popular. There seems precious little for the 8 to 14 year olds. A tennis court is available.
Thomson trips are always pricey, despite this we did enjoy the Submarine Safari and the spectacular scenery of & around Mount Teide is very worthwhile but please be aware that the rep may not tell you that it is not suitable for those with asthma, blood pressure or heart conditions. Our 8 year old daughter blacked out in the cable car causing everyone considerable distress, and no refund offered. Note the hotel offers alternative and cheaper trips.
Shopping tips; don’t show an interest in anything you don’t want to buy not buying offends; shop around as prices vary greatly; don’t be tempted to buy a camera or camcorder as the final cost will be higher; refunds or exchanges aren’t the Spanish way. The airport isn’t cheap and there isn’t the same choice as in the resort.
If needed, your young Thomson reps will try their best but they have their limitations.
Thomson boast this as a Platinum Hotel therefore it is natural for you to have very high expectations, nowhere is perfect so read the reviews and decide what your priorities are. Luxurious it isn’t but it certainly isn’t bad a 7.5/10 for us and 9/10 from the kids

" I only came back to London few hours... "

I only came back to London few hours ago from Tenerife after 12 days. It was my first time to tenerife and to this Hotel.
It was one of the most amazing holidays I've been on and it probably coulnd't be as amazing if it wasn't for this fantastic Hotel.
The location was just perfect, close to the beach, the shops, within walking distance to some of poshest places in that area.
The pool is one of the most beatiful features of the Hotel and adds a great charcter to it. When I close my eyes now I can see my self laying under the sun on one of the sun beds by the pool enjoying everything around me.

The food was really good, although I think the dessert table could be more varied.

Thank you to all the hard working staff and thanks to TENERIFE for being such a beautiful place.
I'll be back

" HAVING JUST RETURNED FROM ONE WEEKS... "

HAVING JUST RETURNED FROM ONE WEEKS HOLIDAY , MYSELF AND MY DAUGHTER ONCE AGAIN HAD A WONDERFUL TIME. YES I AGREE THAT THE POOL AREA IS DANGEROUS AND ITS DIFFICULT TO GET A SUN BED AFTER 9AM BUT YOU DO KIND OF EXPECT THAT . THE STAFF ARE WONDERFUL ! FROM THE RECEPTION TO BAR STAFF, CLEANERS AND WAITERS ARE ALWAYS PLEASANT AND WITH A SMILE . THIS IS OUR 3RD HOLIDAY STAYING THERE IN 18 MONTHS SO ITS REALLY VERY GOOD.FOOD IS LOVELY AND DINING ROOM VERY CLEAN. OUR ROOM WAS SPOTLESS EVERY DAY ONCE THE MAIDS HAD BEEN IN ! IN FACT IVE GOT FRIENDS WHO HAVE BEEN GOING TO THIS HOTEL EVERY YEAR FOR 15 YEARS . MY SISTER IS THERE JUST NOW WITH HER FAMILY SO I TRULY THINK THIS HOTEL IS GREAT. ALSO MY DAUGHTER LOVED THE KIDS CLUB WHICH IS FOR 2 HOURS IN THE MORNING AND ANOTHER 2 HOURS IN THE AFTERNOON AND A GOD SEND FOR THE PARENTS . MINI DISCO IS GOOD FUN TOO.
SO DONT LET THE BAD REPORTS PUT YOU OFF THIS FANTASTIC HOTEL.

" I stayed in the Guayarmina Princess... "

I stayed in the Guayarmina Princess Hotel for a week at the end of June 2008. I absolutely loved this hotel and the location. I personally didnt find any faults at all with this hotel!!! Although I agree that a 4* hotel should have tea/coffee facilities in rooms and a self service laundry room would have been nice, but there is a cheap laundrette close by in the Rio centre. I found the food lovely with such a wide selection. The staff where very pleasant to us always and very helpful. The Thomson Reps where also very helpful, they took part in activities and made the entertainment fun for the kids. The location is ideal!! There is a lift to the beach, that also takes you out to the promenade, where there are many bars, restaurants, shops etc.
I WILL definitely be back in Costa Adeje and staying at the Guayarmina!!

" Just arrived back from two weeks at... "

Just arrived back from two weeks at the hotel Guayarmina Princess. Prior to the holiday some of the reviews left us unsure, well nothing to worry about. The hotel is great in a perfect position in the resort. Clean in all areas our rooms were bright with plenty of room, both our rooms had a sea view, but some people were spotted complaining about there rooms. A bit pot luck I think, there was me, my wife and two children(5) and (10) and my parents who are in theie 70's in the party and we all had a great holiday. The kids loved the pools. Though the main pool being fresh water appeared that it could be cleaner. The area around the pool was slippey when wet as most are and there was signs to say to wear none slip footware round the pool. The childrens entertaintment was just average with both children deciding not to bother. Food well to be honest a bit disappointing, been to many a 3 star hotel which have had better, food variety was limited and a childrens buffet would have been nice. The beach is very nice but there can be big waves on some days so for small children head to the corner of the beach where its protected and no waves. 2 Sunbeds & a sun shade where 15 Euros on the beach. Lots of steps in the resort which my mother who has a hip replacement did find it hard work at times.
Drinks expensive in hotel as expected but very cheap in some bars a "pint" of beer could be found @ 1 Euro upwards but around 1.5 euros in most. Food good value too.The hotel lifts "when working" can be confusing due to the strange shape of the hotel with +ve and -ve floors. Trips are expensive as useual with the medieval night as good as any night out all of us enjoyed. There was some reps at the hotel I believe if you needed them. Generally an excellent holiday and wolud quiet easily go back.

" This is the first time i have ever... "

This is the first time i have ever writen a holiday review but i feel i should to warn people to KEEP AS FAR AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL AS POSSIBLE! We recently stayed at this hotel for a family holiday and in all honesty we're glad to be home.

On reading some of these reviews prior to our trip we were slightly concerned and contacted Thomson. Thomson assured us that this was a top standard hotel and part of their premiere collection. They informed us that other holiday companies often wrote bad reviews on these sites and we reasoned that some of the bad reviews were old so left gatwick in high spirits looking forward to some nice relaxing and sun- we really wish we had stayed at home now!

We arrived at the hotel to be told we had to wait as only one of the three rooms were ready, we asked why we could not have the key to one room so we could leave our bags in that room until the others were ready and enjoy our holiday, we were told this was not possible and waited over two hours at reception after an early morning flight. not the best start to a holiday!

To be honest it went down hill from here- the staff were rude and unhelpful and the Thomson reps were absolutely useless. The food was bland and unvaried, often cold, we chose to start eating out as the thought of eating in the restaurant turned our stomach!

The rooms were not clean, the maids simply made the bed, the bathroom was not cleaned once in the whole week! we were disgraced.
Upon complaining to the hotel and Thomson reps very little was done. Simply an apology and even that was a struggle. On the last day the lead rep did go through some issues with us but on reflection i do feel this was too little too late.

I strongly reccommend that you book your trips outside the hotel and not with Thomson- they are overpriced and not worth the money. The Reps are willing to take the money from your hand without any problem at all but not prepared to help you in any way possible. for example we were unfortunate enough to loose a camera while on holiday and the reps were not interested in helping- not what we consider a good rep!

DO NOT VISIT THIS HOTEL IS ALL I CAN SAY. It is dirty, the staff are rude, the reps unhelpful, the food awful and no way near a 4 star premier hotel like advertised and i am not another company just an angry mother and wife who wanted a nice holiday with her family!!

" This is the first time I have ever... "

This is the first time I have ever felt the need to write a review about a holiday, I went with my husband and 2 children. On our first day we were really pleased with the appearance of the hotel, it was quite impressive. We checked in and went to our room, all seemed fine until I started to put my clothes away.......cockroaches in the wardrobe. I phoned reception to tell them and the phone was faulty. Whilst all this was going on my husband was in the shower and he shouted that the shower was stopping and starting. This is not what we expected from a 4* hotel. We eventually got a new room the next day on a higher level and were pleased with its cleanliness but received no apology fron the hotel. Both rooms had no fridge, this could be hired for €4.20 a day. Beware of the very slippy pool area, my 4 year old daughter slipped and banged her head and we got no help from the lifeguard. He pointed me towards the pool bar for ice and then sat there reading.

On a positive note the food was fantastic and the waiters were friendly. The pool was never too busy and we always managed to get a sunbed. The entertainment was good from what we saw and there were other bars in the hotel to choose from if you didn't want to watch it. The hotel has a good location, 5 mins from the the beach.

Overall we had a great time, it really does depend on what type of room you get from the start. Don't be tempted to book any days out with Thomson, we booked them alot cheaper from a shop just outside the hotel. Try and get a room on a high floor they are not as dark and gloomy and have less chance of cockroaches. Good luck if you go to this hotel, it really is pot luck whether you have a good/bad holiday.

" I read the reviews before I left and... "

I read the reviews before I left and I was a bit nervous about the comments regarding the pool area. I have a small child so I invested in a pair of waterproof non slip shoes THANK GOD i did. The pool area is so dangerous and slippy and not at all child friendly. The pool itself is clean and the water is clear but there are no parasols around the childrens pool so you can't sit thereand let them play as the sun is too hot. The shallow end of the main pool has no parasols either you can't move them because they are cemented to the ground. Overall a nice hotel but no good for kids, with the execption of the mini club. Veronica is lovely, my son went everyday and enjoyed all the activities. We were then told that we could not use any electrical items in our room especially irons, hair straightners and kettles. If they were in your room they would be confiscated until the end of the holiday... Who do they think they are? ... we just used them and put them away everyday out of sight. My husband was turned away from dinner on the first night because his trousers were not long enough, shorts cant be worn for dinner (which we knew) but apparantly 3/4 length trousers as classed as shorts, we were told by the reps from thomsons to go and buy some cheap trousers just for dinner and then get changed. Charming. Overall the holiday was nice we will not go again to a platinum hotel it is just not worth the extra money. We have now booked a cheap family AI break and I think a 3 star will be more family friendly and more relaxed with FUN.
