Having never written a holiday review...
4 / 10
Jun 2008, Other A ANON

Having never written a holiday review before I thought i'd put down the few basis points which I feel are important to people who have booked and are about to go to the hotel. I read reviews before we departed and were a bit apprehensive as to what to expect. The majority of criticisms are spot on but it wasn't quite as bad as we were expecting.
Having stayed at both very basic and high end hotels myself and my party
(two adults and two young children) were disapointed with the standard of this hotel. I find that describing it as a thomson platinum with a 4* rating is misleading and unfair especially when we paid near on £2000 for a week half board! The hotel does appear grand on arrival but is in need of a major refurbishment throughout!
I'll start with the positive............
* A big plus is the food. All was fresh and delicious both at breakfast and meal times! A pity this standard isn't kept throughout the hotel!
* The area around the pool is completely lethal - it is a serious health and safety hazzard with both adults and children. We must have seen 10 people fall over banging heads on tiles in the first half hour of our arrival! Non slip shoes are essential however these don't always prevent the slips!
* An iron is not available for hire?! Which in a "4*" hotel i find ridiculous and you are not allowed to use your own iron as this is a health and safety hazzard! The laundry service i'm guessing at a costly price however is available!
* The rooms below pool level are dark the bathrooms even darker and are very very basic. The bathroom although cleaned daily got very wet and was bit damp and mouldy.
* Lifts appeared to cause chaos and floor levels confused many people. Waiting for a lift on departure day was a nightmare. The bell boy took 45 minutes after my initial request to collect our luggage from the room and i had to continuously make trips back and forth from reception to remind them. It would have been much quicker doing it myself but as it was myself and my sister with the children it would have been quite a struggle.
On hindsight we perhaps would have asked to change our hotel before our departure. I wouldn't stay in this hotel again and would not recommend it to others. If your going ask for your room to be upgraded to above floor level. Many people around the pool area seemed to have done this before or when checking in.

Just got back and had a fabulous time...
8 / 10
Jun 2008, Mrs S Pratt

Just got back and had a fabulous time at this hotel. All areas are kept lovely and clean. The pool area was lovely with plenty of sunbeds for everyone, OK so not always in prime positions as there are still those that get up at the crack of dawn to reserve their beds with towels and then not use them all day, but you get that everywhere. The maids clean the rooms daily and do a thorough job, we know this as we had half the beach on our floor and in the bath everyday and there was no sign of it when we got back. I even got suncream on the mirror and that was polished off before we got back to the room.
Breakfast can be a hectic time and can get quite noisy but always a clean table available and always replacing any food with fresh. Evening meals a little more relaxed and a good variety of food to choose from. Even my fussy husband and son found something they really enjoyed every night. None of us got any "tummy upsets" which is very unusual for us when we go away. All the staff are very friendly and as helpful as they can be as some of the "less senior" staff don't have great English but hey I can't speak a word of Spanish so am not complaining about that. The only staff that weren't helpful were the Thomson reps who were only interested in selling you over priced excursions. If you want to know anything about the resort then ask the receptionists who are extremely helpful.
All in all a fabulous, relaxing holiday, Would defo go back.

can i just say i really do not know...

Apr 2008, Mr JD Davies

can i just say i really do not know how people can say do not go to this hotel. its the nicest hotel i've ever stayed in.
the food was beautiful ( they had a different variety everyday)
the rooms were acceptable with a bathroom, living area and bedroom (which had a tv where you could watch english channels.
the view of our room was amazing, you could see the whole of the beach an sea.
all the staff were very friendly and its was amazingly clean everywhere you looked!!.
the pool was nice an warm so it wasnt too cold for when you jumped in!
we went to the bahia princess just to see what it looked like an if you ask me i think the guaraymina hotel is much nicer an more friendly than the bahia.
the only fault i did have was that the tour operator we went with (thomson) try and flog you all these trips which are incredibly expensive so i would advise the people who want to go on the trips to go hunt round for them instead of booking them through thomson.
overall i would say this hotel should be 5*+ its just incredible no joke, and people who are giving this hotel 1/10 are just people who dont know perfection when they see it, this hotel was worth every penny :)

After reading some of the other views...

After reading some of the other views before we departed, I actually didn't want to go!! We only booked two days before we flew out and having stayed at the Bahia in 2004 we often went into the Guayamina and it always seemed lovely. Due to it's beach front location we thought we would give it a try.
Now, I am very well travelled and a self confessed snob :) Yes you could have picked holes in the place if you looked hard enough but on the whole it was lovely. I'm a Health and Safety Manger and my husband a Facilities Manager, so I would say we have high expectations but also realistic ones!
I feel it is a shame that when an individual has one or two problems they magnify them beyond belief and put the rest of us off!! A true/fair representation is what we are after!
Our room, which I shared with my husband and 16 year old daughter was pleasant enough, not as nice as the Bahia rooms, or the Costa Adeje Grand. The beds were on the rather hard side! Clean though, which for me is the main priority.
Choices in the resturant were fab, again I'm fussy, hygiene being key! Occassion queue for the toaster in the morning, but BIG deal! Try something different.
Pools are lovely and were heated, no real rush for a sunbeds as ther are plenty, shame they don't adopt the 'SUNBED POLICE' approach like the Costa Adeje Grand as this does stop the early birds that then don't reappear till after lunch! The beds nearest the sea did seem to be taken first thing (and quite often no one came out till much later).
Location for us is fab, we love Fanabe and Del Duque beaches.
Just a tip for the Mum's and Dad's that I always add, the sea is very powerful and waves a cyclical and very decieving, becareful!

Apr 2008, Mrs S Wildman

Having just read the comments re this hotel I think we must be all singing from different song sheets as we had nothing but praise for the staff. The selection of food was superb & you would be hard pressed to find better shows. All areas were kept spotlessly clean & nothing was to much trouble.
We walked to Los Christianos enjoying coffee on the way & watching some magnificent surf boarders.

Our rooms were shabby, and over...

Mar 2008, Mrs Sonyia Hughes

Our rooms were shabby, and over looked a concret wall with a mesh tennis court on top. The dinning room was like an Ant-hill with people milling around. 2 toasters seviced hundreds of guests. The only saving grace was the weather and the hundreds of sunbeds. No tea or coffee making in rooms. 4euros were charged for luke warm tea from room sevice. The Hotel was clean.

This is the first review we have...
1 / 10
Feb 2008, Mr Bernard Limb

This is the first review we have written in 10 years of holidaying 4 times a year and are only doing it to warn others not to waste hard earned money on staying in this dump.We are easy going and can usually see the funny side to a bit of a dodgy break, this place though is past a joke and we couldnt wait to get out of it. Why do Thomson still insist this is a Platinum 4 star ? dont they read the reviews ?.The food was apalling, the room a decent 2 star, the staff ignorant and miserable. The pool area is a death trap,Thomson reps that are inlove with themselves, cocky and oh so smug !.
This holiday was the biggest waste of money,we have stayed in 2 star places that have had better facilities.PLEASE PLEASE vote with your money, do not go to this place, yes it looks lovely and you may be offered a good deal(we payed full price for 2 weeks)but i lost several days of my hol with a tummy bug and we ate out after this.We would not reccomend this holiday to anyone and dont book a private taxi transfer with thomson as you get a works van with all the other mugs who have paid for a "taxi".

We've just come back from a week in...
9 / 10
Feb 2008, Mr I Evans

We've just come back from a week in the Guayarmina Princess and found it to be an amazing hotel. The flight was quite cramped, but we didn't let that put us off, although the food wasn't too pleasant! Getting through arrivals and into our hotel room didn't take longer than 45 minutes, as we were the first drop off, and to our suprise we had no noise what so ever from aeroplanes, considering we were only approximatly 20 minutes from the airport.
The check in at the hotel was quick, and porters offered a kind hand to helping us carry our suitcases. Our first impression of the hotel was a very good one, we were fascinated by the cleanliness of the hotel and the marbled floors, palm trees and the freindly smiles were very inviting!
The room was very clean, although we will warn you all they only have approximatly 5 rooms with contain a double bed, with the rest being seperate twin beds. Also, there is no sink and you will have to pay for a fridge and safe in your room, apart from this, the room was very suitable and cleaned every day, if required they will give you fresh towels and will always tidy your beds.
The pool was very clean, and a nice selection of flowers and palm trees surrounded the pool, giving a relaxed feeling. There are two pools , one being more shallow for children to swim in, both are cold, but once in you get warm very quickly. The service when sitting around the bar areas the service was of the highest quaality, and was very quick and easy. You will never have to leave your seat to get drinks as they are constantly on the look out for their customers. There are a good range of drinks are reasonable prices.
The evening entertainment was enjoyable, with something for everyone including mini discos and tribute bands. Although, on one night we had a parrot show and you will have your picture taken with a parrot. We paid 10 euros for a copy of the picture together - wich we never got, so i dont recommend buying these pictures.
Breakfast could have been better, but dinner was lovely, as there is a wide variety what everyone could enjoy, also the desserts are delicious, everything from the ice cream to the crackers and range of cheeses!
Around the hotel you will find many gift shops, but not many bars.. and for the younger age, we recommend you go to Playa Las Americas for the nightlife, as it is busy and upbeat in that area at night, although you will get pulled into just about every bar you go past!
In general it was an amazing experience and would definatly come back again, we would recommend this hotel to everyone who loves luxury or a romantic week away. All of the staff and cleaners are a credit to the hotel.
