We were pleasantly surprised after reading some reviews. As expected the food was not great so i would recommend bed and breakfast as the area has great restaurants. The grounds of the hotel are superb with a wealth of flowers, banana trees and lemon trees . Ideally situated just above this beautiful harbour . We will be returning in September. Will just add its not set up for children.

  • Advice: Go bed and breakfast to make best use of great restaurants nearby

We were staying at Palm Bay from 22th May for 12 days, this is really a lovely place full of palm tree shadow to those who prefer quiet and relaxing holiday. I had read reports on how the food was not that good, but i have to say that regarding the new chef the food was very nice, especially fish offers. The first place I would visit onec again.

  • Advice: beautiful palm garden and obliging and friendly staff

stayed at palm bay 7th june till 18th june,2009, loved it there, hotel is ideal the staff are great all 4/5 star, but then the food lets it down badly. alison is fantastic fun, i'm the bloke she called jack, she thinks i look like j duckworth. cordelia and nickos are very good too. boss man looks a little down but he's ok when you chat to him.
the hotel has a fantastic location and is really like paradise with all the flowers, birds and butterflies, bit like being in a disney cartoon, try the swinging chairs early morning, heaven,. for a good lunch and soothing company try anexis bar about 250 yards to the left along the sea front, for a good drink at reasonable prices try the jolly roger, great in there, try to catch daves quiz, very good he tells some crap jokes though. sample danielles bacon rolls mmm, but get there before 2 in the afternoo, cuz she has a sleep and dave can't cook.love you all sandra and geoff. black country. england.

We spent a lovely week there, everything there was charming, the room, the beautiful gardens were a delight, the pool and staff were friendly.
The food on our first night was undiscribable, some fish, some meat, some pasta with awful sauce, the standard was bad. The breakfast was a few dried up fried eggs and slices of frankerfurters, with the usual european breakfast. The room where this was all served was a bit grim, but people were taking their food outside. Everyone we spoke to at the hotel had the same comments.
We did pay to eat in the Palm Bay hotel at lunchtime and the food then was good.
The beach is about 1 km away, which is gritty and you need shoes to negotiate the slimy rocks, but once in the sea it is divine.

  • Advice: Great for an r & r holiday, but you need transport as there is only one bus per day out.
  • Activities: The Pink Flamingo, Revenna's, Piori's, Mike's Place and The Jolly Roger & boat trip around the bay.

We were staying at palm bay 29th may for one week, this is really a lovely hotel if you like a quiet and chilled out holiday. We had read reports on how the food was not that good, but i will say it was not the best food but was ok to get by on, plus you only have a stone throw walk to places to eat. We would go back tomorrow and will be checking out this holiday again, all i can say is if you are going here you are lucky cause we loved it.

I too had read mixed reports on this Hotel but i have to say it was excellent.
The facilities were brilliant, the staff were friendly, the food was ok and i was especially grateful that your rooms were cleaned and bins emptied everyday.
My only problem was the fact the Hotel did not provide high chairs and with having a 17month old son, meal times were just a nightmare but overall we enjoyed our break.

A day before our holiday we looked at...

A day before our holiday we looked at reviews on PalmBay and were apprehensive.
Agree with some disagree with some - Food absolutely excellent.several choices each evening and none repeated in the whole 14 days.
Rooms excellent.cleaned, beds made every day. Surroundings.beautifull - set in hundreds of palm trees, swinging chairs handing from them, fairy lights etc,
Staff however accommodating, need to cheer up, no smiles!! Nothing to do in the Hotel itself. No atmosphere, I don,t know if that is because we were in the minority of Brits there or what, no good mornings between other holiday makers, no smiles, no holiday chit chat, realy quite depressing. When we got home yesterday we didn,t feel like we should and discussed why, and although we had a great holiday in sissi - a fantastic place, we decided the whole reason was Palm Bay although accommodating in every other way, has NO atmosphere whatsoever, and no matter what you do yourself, like just being polite, acknowledging, smiling - it don,t work, even after a few pina coladas. Enjoyed our holiday in sissi, been before, but Palm Bay an eerie non-holiday atmosphere. If you can do without that, then its a brill place to stay.

I'd read mixed reviews of this hotel,...

I'd read mixed reviews of this hotel, but I have to say I was not disappointed.
The hotel: Absolutely beautiful! All set round a little courtyard in the midst of a mini palm forest, with bougainvillea and other climbers everywhere - simply idyllic. Communal areas - plenty of poolside loungers for the sun seekers; a nice little shady area poolside with comfy seating; dining tables inside and outside. We could have breakfast on the terrace overlooking the harbour, watching the village come to life. Everything beautifully lit up in the evening.
Rooms: Met our expectations - well furnished and comfortable without being sumptuous. Balconies shaded by the palms. Fridge supplied as standard, small charge for use of safe in room - 1 Euro per day I thought very reasonable. All well maintained and spotlessly clean. Only drawback was the lack of a fixing for the shower-head in the bathrooms - hands free showering not an option - maybe that's a Cretan thing. Didn't need the air-con due to time of year so can't comment on that.
Cleanliness: Couldn't fault it - cleaners were extremely attentive. Fallen leaves swept up throughout the hotel every morning. Rooms cleaned daily. Always a little surprise - night clothes folded and laid out, trainers cleaned of the previous day's sand, clutter tidied and placed in drawers (which were then left open so we'd know). My wife left her wedding ring in the bathroom one morning - it was subsequently placed at her bedside where she couldn't miss it. Towels and bedding were changed regularly. I had a little cut on my face which bled on the pillow case overnight - fresh pillowcase next day.
Food: Breakfast was actually okay - enough variety to satisfy the fussiest of eaters. Always a hot option - just don't look for full English. Dinner was a bit of a hit and a miss. Starters were a bit repetitive. Meat was obviously cheap cuts. It would have been helpful if the dishes had been identified - I went half way through the holiday thinking the soup was gravy, and then quite enjoyed it. Once we sussed the stifado it was palatable, if not the best. We ate out quite a bit but for the sake of the budget it was just about an okay fall back.
Staff: I didn't find them miserable at all. I don't think English is their strong point so they tended to respond rather than initiate conversation. I found staff to be pleasant if not effusive - always a smile if not a lengthy conversation. The one exception was the guy on reception when we had a little problem with the floor drain in the bathroom. Reported at 4 pm - he completely misunderstood the situation and did nothing. We arrived back at 10 pm, to be told it would be dealt with next day. A few sharp words and it was fixed there and then, but I did feel he let the side down by his apathy.
Overall, I would go back to Palm Bay - it suited our needs just fine.
As for Sissi itself - lovely place - great tavernas, friendly people, but not a resort for the clubbers.

After staying at Palm Bay for 2 weeks...
3 / 10
Jul 2007, Mrs Z Hunt

After staying at Palm Bay for 2 weeks i must say we were very disappointed with the value for money we received!
We paid for half board accommodation, the food was a let down. The choice was very limited and the quality was very poor! Every night it appeared to be left overs from either breakfast or the night before, all mixed up in some concoction! Another problem is you don't know what it is because there are no signs or labels to tell you! The most disgusting thing was at breakfast one morning, the cheese, you could see where the mould had been scraped off!! eughh! My boyfriend and i then said in jest that we would be getting pasta and cheese salad for the evening meal - low and behold we did!
The staff were miserable (apart from the cleaners!) and the hotel was geared toward the French more than anyone else. We were possibly one of the youngest couple there and felt we were stereotyped into the 'Malia' category!
But a holiday is what you make it yourselves! - other reviews of this hotel will be interesting to read!
