A family run hotel/apartment which is clean and in very pleasant surroundings.
When we arrived we were dropped off at the top of the street with no real clue as to where the hotel was, we were eventually lead to the reception by the only pleasant member of the owning family. The rooms (number 3 and 4) were clean but simple with a TV showing mainly greek stations and CNN. The airconditioning which is a must, cost an extra 7 euros per day! The breakfast was simple, and I mean simple (two slices of bread, coffee or tea and a glass of orange squash (not fresh). The pool area was quiet during the day with most people opting to go to the beach. The pool its self although only small was clean and well kept, although it was only opened from 8 until 8, and was roped off all other times. Sometimes it was shut early (ie 7pm). The sun beds were always available and there wasn't the need for the morning towel rush to secure one.
And now the gripes.... Firstly the useless Thomas Cook rep, we only saw her twice the whole holiday, once on arrival and on only one of her scheduled visits, when she complaind of needing to go to bed, what a hard life? Now the family that owned the hotel rate as the most miserable bunch of so and sos', they never smiled and just seemed to go around shouting to each other, especially the older woman (the grandmother I think). This continued much to the annoyance of those who like to retire at around 11 pm or so, as the whole family and their children would often stay up until 1 am, with the children running around shouting and playing football. (don't I sound an old fogy).
The maid service was provided by a young girl, we presumed to be the grand daughter, and was done at 8:30 to 9am each morning. Each morning a loud knock at the door and then unless an answer was given loudly, it was opened.
The resort of Kamari was very nice with a good walk available to the ancient ruins at the top of the hill, take water it has 22 turns! If you are considering touring the island stay away from the overpriced tours provided by the TC group, a bus to Thira was 1.6 euros but the trip by TC was 20 per person!
Every resteraunt in Kamari has someone outside trying hard to persuade you to eat there, after a couple of nights this became a real pain. The best resteraunts were Navy on the front both for value and taste. Better values were also found on the back streets.
And so to finish..... would we recomend this hotel....probably yes but they need to work on the customer service and have the maid cleaning a little later. And as far as a lot of the Greeks are concerned it would help if you werent British !
