Brilliant Hotel
from Danny71
The San Valentin Hotel is at the top of the hill in Son Bou, but the courtesy bus runs through the day. Otherwise it's a 10 min walk back up a steep hill - not too bad for most people. The hotel itself is excellent. Our apartment had been very recently renovated, with everything like new - very nice. The remainder of the hotel all seemed like it had been recently renovated also. The service in all areas, the staff and the pool were all excellent and without fault. Food was very good and quite varied, driks and snacks were also very good. Apartment bedding and towels were changed frequently. We stayed all inclusive with 2 young children (aged 4 and 6) who both absolutely loved their 2 week stay. Daytime entertainment for kids and adults was good, with the evening entertainment a bit more variable. Kids liked the mini-disco. Our stay was in school holidays so mainly familes there. Overall, would definately recommend this hotel, and would go back in future.

2.5 hours flight from the UK and I arrived in Menorca a 30min coach trip and dropped off at the hotel San Valentin which looks very impressive, the hotels location is at the top of a quite steep hill which if walking up takes about 15minutes of steady walking from the bottom to the top and a few minutes to get to the beach. In SonBou there are the normal type of shops, bars and eating places. The beach is good very long and all white sand and clear sea. On the whole a nice place to spend a week. Now back to the hotel,on checking in you are welcomed by very friendly staff explained where everything is located and times of meals. The rooms seem much alike and are very clean my room had views over countryside and also the sea, I was a bit disapointed that there was no fridge in the room and should you wish to use the safe in the room you had to get a key card from the front desk at 15 Euro, which 5 Euro was returned when you returned the card at the end of your weeks stay. The food was fine, loads to choose from. Only down side was the amount of babys and young children it seemed over run with them totally.
Absolutely loved it!

My family & I stayed on an all inclusive basis & were a bit apprensive as we'd never done all incusive within Europe but we needn't have worried as it was absolutey fantasic. The food was great. The hotel make a huge effort to ensure the guests are entertained with daytime activities & evening entertainment which was of a very high standard. I would highly reccommend this hotel. The hotel is extremely clean & the staff seemed to be constantly cleaning. The beach is easily accessible via a courtsey bus as is the shops. We will definately return again.
best ever!

we have just returned from a fantastic holiday at the valentin hotel. we stayed in a one bedroom apartment which was very roomy, spotlessly clean air conditioned and a lovely balcony. we stayed all inclusive and the food was the best ever -definatley a four star. there was so much choice and when the restraunt closed a lovely snack bar with hotdogs etc opened. the drinks were also plentiful and included brand names. the entertainment was great, a diffrent show every night. we watched the bee gees and a brilliant magic man! there was plenty of entertainment and activities during the day for all ages. just want to say hello to the kids club entertainers Luis, sven, libertad and debbie who made our holiday twice as special. there were three pools, all kept spotlessly clean and you didnt need to get up too early for a sunbed. the courtesy bus to the town ran well every 15 minutes but remember they stop for 2 hours at lunch time for a siesta! the beach was beautiful but be aware of jellyfish. all in all, a fantastic holiday, will definatley be going back.
Wonderful hotel

The San Valentin was a wonderful hotel for our first visit to Menorca. The pool area is great with plenty of sunloungers and I never saw anyone reserving them. I love sunbathing and the poolside was very peaceful and relaxing. We were on a Half Board basis and the food was fantastic, there was always so much variety for both breakfast and dinner, with different dishes being served each night. The staff were extremely efficient and very attentive to our needs. The free bus shuttle to the beach is very handy, its not a bad walk down the hill to Son Bou but if the bus is there then its a shame not to use it. There was a small bus provided for the first 2 days of our stay and the driver never kept to the timetable, which was annoying, after this we had a bigger bus and a very punctual driver. I highly recommend this hotel, it was great value for money and it does deserve to be a 4 star.
'superb holiday'

My wife and I have just returned from a 7 day break at the San Valentin ( 27/9 - 4/10 ) and have to say the whole experience from start to finish was excellent. We decided to book the holiday ourselves after reading other reviews and taking their advice and as a result everything went like clockwork. We booked the hotel through the internet, the taxi and the flights which worked out an absolute bargain and much cheaper than booking a package holiday so it may be worth other people considering this before confirming their holiday. So what about the Hotel itself, well I have to say this was my first time to Menorca and what a result we certainly picked a great Hotel. We actually stayed in the apartments side on a half board basis and after reading other peoples comments can only speak of our findings. The reception staff are excellent, speak very good English, German etc and are only too happy to assist when attempting to speak a little Spanish. The apartment itself was very clean and appeared to have just recently been refurbished, the air con system appeared new and worked perfectly ( seperate systems in the bedroom to the rest of the apartment ) nice tiled floor, nice new bathroom and kitchen units and large balcony which was great to sit & chill in the late afternoon after a day by the pool or on the beach. The Hotel area itself has 2 great bars ( not counting the poolside bar ) one of which is for adults only, the other is located in a large seating area where you can drink and watch the nights entertainment. Just situated outside the main bar area is another terrace where you again could sit ,drink and watch the sun go down ( very relaxing ). The restaurant is very busy at the beginning of the evening and you may have to queue as you wait to be seated, however this is not a bad thing as it means you can both leave your table at the same time to get your meals without anyone jumping in your seat as the table may look vacant. Having been a frequent traveller around the world we found the food to be excellent. Varied choices every night, well presented, hot and replenished at frequent intervals during the meal time.Breakfast was also excellent with a full choice available and fresh bread, rolls etc, fresh juices too. We found that you are unable to order a glass of wine with your meal only a bottle, however what you don't drink on the night is kept until the next night and so on as they put your room number on the bottle ready for the next day. A nice touch was a bottle of champagne courtesy of the Hotel for my wifes birthday which I had informed them about prior to our visit, so any boyfriends or husbands thinking of booking this Hotel bare this in mind, it made the evening that extra special. After reading other reviews I have to say the walk from the Hotel to Son Bou is a very steep one and although can only take approx 15 minutes to walk back for people less mobile I suggest they take advantage of the free bus which runs frequently, however this does stop running at 7.15pm. There are plenty of sunbeds by the pool area with a small table and parasol to every 2 ( a nice touch ). It's great that sunbeds cannot be reserved which meant you could walk out to the pool virtually anytime in the morning and get the sunbed you wanted. The indoor pool is also very clean, not busy and heated. The island is so pretty and small that car hire is a must, we found the local car hire shops in SonBou had some very good offers available. The Island has one main road really that runs the entire length ( approx 30 miles, the ME1 ) with other roads branching off to some beautiful places with great beaches and places to eat & drink all just waiting to be explored. I have included some photo's in my review so you can get a feel for the place, I just hope if you are planning a visit you have a fantastic time as we did. For the price we paid you will not find a better bargain for your money.

Have just returned from 12 days at this hotel. We went half board, but were given an upgrade on arrival to a much larger self-catering flat. (This worked brilliantly for us, but later in the holiday we noticed some people who were self-catering and given a hotel room without cooking facilities, which wasn't ideal for them! I'm not sure how the bookings were managed - we were independent travellers and got to the hotel much quicker than those travelling with a tour operator.) The flat was very spacious and extremely clean. The maid service was daily, and the maids noticed when you went in and out and timed their visits to perfection. The half board option was good value, the restaurant was always well stocked and there was a good variety of foods. There seem to be "peak" times for eating, where we had to wait for a table for a shot while, but the wait was never longer than 10 mins. The hotel is at the top of a fairly steep hill. It only takes about 15 mins to walk from bottom to top, but we had a car, which is by far the most efficient way of travelling to the beach, which is very clean and long - just be wary of the jellyfish!
Made the most of it!

My fiance and I stayed here for two weeks SC and we booked via Thomas Cook online. It was a good as it was a holiday, but we won't be going back again. To try and keep it short I will just highlight a few points:- Good Points- The reception staff were lovely, very helpful. Very good pool and maintained well. Some day time activities arranged such as water polo, archery, darts, table tennis competitions. Smaller pool for younger children. Good number of sun loungers and the bar serving varied refreshments by the pool was nice. Very good maid service, towels changed every other day, very clean. Nice interior to the hotel. We booked a shop and sail with our tour operator and it was worth the money. First you are taken by coach to Mahon where you have a few hours to browse, then to a gin factory which was good fun, followed by a cruise round the harbour and then to the leather factory, gorgeous quality and way cheaper than in the U.K. Bad Points- The apartment only had two electric rings to cook on. Very basic old apartments and you can hear your neighbours very, very clearly! There is an ant problem, so tip would be to get a top floor apartment. There are a lot of ants round the pool and sunbeds so my tip would be to get a sunlounger on the side of the pool near the life guard. If like us, you like to try different restaurants when you go on holiday you will be disappointed with this resort. There is a very poor selection and all the restaurants tend to have the same menu, chips, eggs, burgers, etc. We found a good chinese restaurant next to the Hawaii bar (can't remember the name), but also Restaurant Boni, they too offered a good selection and the food was lovely. We did try the hotel (desperate for decent food) on two occasions, the food was better than most restaurants that the resort were offering (but that would not be hard to do), but again not a lot of choice and the food tasted as if it was reheated from lunch. Watch out for the fish because it's not boned (especially if your kids like fish), but the restaurant was clean and the staff were good. Also the supermarket at the hotel is very expensive, walk down the hill and there is a supermarket on the left that is much better. If you carry on walking into the resort, on the other side of the tobacco shop there is a bakers which is very good. There is also ten pin bowling in the resort, 12 euros for one game for two adults including shoe hire, better prices than in the UK. They have pool tables and lots of video games and a bar here. A good find especially as the hotel evening entertainment is so terrible. The best act was the Beijing acrobats, the rest I won't even mention. This was obviously not just me who thought this as the hotel might as well open a casino as over half of the guests were playing cards for entertainment.
I will return

I returned from a weeks holiday in this hotel on the 11th Sept. I am a little surprised at the review headed "very average". It looks like I was there at the same time yet my thoughts seem to differ- I was AI, and used the well stocked and well managed restaurants three times a day- the dress code seemed to be adherd to at all times. I also stayed in the appartments, which yes were slightly dated but that was no surprise; as they appear, as shown in all web sites. I found the staff very helpful( but then I treated them with respect and found that helped). The loungers were very clean and functional(im not sure what else they should be). The distance to the beach and town, for me in my mid forties with two children aged 2 and 4, was do-able however some days I used the free bus that the hotel lays on. A bit of exercise does no harm. The children had a great time playing safely in the pools, and I even managed to feel secure in reading a full book. The families that we spoke with all helped make this holiday a memorable one- our children made friends and loved their stay. The hotel visitors that I spoke with all seemed to have a great time- In fact many if not all said they would consider returning. As a seasoned traveler, I think hotels in the UK and USA can not be compared on gradings. This hotel is as good as most 4* that I've stayed in. You only get what you pay for! This review is only my opinion but I hope it helps others!
