Great deal and friendly hosts
Stayed here quite by accident in May 2005. Family run and nearly brand new, spotlessly clean with pool, large room with an unobstructed view to caldera/volcano from the front rooms (although there is an ugly quarry right below-but just look past that-Air/con and large breakfast included. Staff picked us up and dropped us back at port to meet our onward ferry and recommended a great hotel in Mykonos. It isn't in Town which makes it much quieter at night for a bit of peace but an easy walk ~300-400 metres into town. View isn't picture perfect... more
Good value, bad breakfast
The hotel is on great location,5 minute walk from the city and close to bus station. Our room was not on the side of the main road so there was no noise problems, pool is great, but breakfast is lacking. Some bread, sour cream and salami, juice and that's it.
Nice place
This is a reasonably new, very clean hotel just outside the main town. Being outside, it's a good choice for people with disabilities or lots of luggage. There is also space to park a rental car. The pool is gorgeous! My room was away from the road, so I didn't experience the noise reported by others. My biggest problem with the place is the fact that I was only there 1 night.
Okay, But Nothing To Write Home About
We stayed at the Astir Thira Hotel from July 11 - 14. The best thing about this hotel is its proximity to town -- an easy and quick walk to Fira, shops, restaurants, clubs. While hotels built into the mountain side would have gorgeous views, we were arriving to Santorini after a week of cycling in Ireland and didn't welcome the idea of toting luggage (and ourselves) up and down hillsides several times a day. We had done that the previous year in Positano and instead opted for what we believed was a flat-lying hotel that still had a nice... more
great family run hotel
A friend and I went to santorini and stayed in thira for 4 nights. We arrived by ferry at 3am and the hotel owner picked us up gladly. The rooms are very clean and modern with a very greek islands touch to them. The hotel has a very homely feel to it as it is family run and the hotel owners wife and daughters were very sweet. Breakfast was plentiful and The swimming pool view room was quite stunning and away from the main road so there is no noise. I think the best place to stay is in Thira as there is not much to do at night in the other... more
Few facilities but great value
Things didn't start well for us at Astir Thira. Our flight from Manchester was on time but baggage reclaim at Santorini took over an hour meaning that the owner didn't hang around to pick us up! A short taxi ride later brought us to the hotel. Our room on the second floor was spotless, roomy, well furnished with a balcony view of the pool and the sea on the Kamari side of the island. The pool was great, but was really the only facility at the hotel. There is no bar and bottled water seems to be the only drink on offer. That... more
Astir Thira Hotel OK, but I'd stay elsewhere
We stayed at the Astir Thira Hotel for 2 nights and found it clean and comfortable, but very noisy. One member of our group had to change her room from the caldera view side to the back side of the hotel to get away from the noise. The hotel is situated on the main road into town and traffic was noisy all night long. It was a short hike into town daily along the road, which had narrow sidewalks and fast cars. The staff were very pleasant and the breakfast good (love that good yogurt!). After exploring the island a bit more, I would... more
Loved Santorini, Hotel Astir location ok
As part of an island hopping trip discussed in other reviews, after 3 nights in Athens and 2 on Naxos, we ferried to Santorini and stayed at the Hotel Astir in Fira, then on to Heraklion and Chania, Crete in mid-April 2005, the pleasant low season. Astir is 2-years old, and the rooms, ours was with a small balcony in the rear on the 3d floor, was nice, fresh and new. The location some 300 metres from the town center and without a caldera view is less atmospheric than a much higher priced caldera view. Better to stay in Firofestani, a... more
Affordable Astir Thira Hotel, Santorini
Just got back from Santorini's Astir Thira Hotel and stayed 3 blocks from the center of Fira. Most people want to stay on the side of the mountain but it's a drag lugging suitcases up hundreds of stairs. We enjoyed Astir Thira Hotel which is new and very comfortabe hotel with views! We were picked up at the airport by the hotel owner on the way in and dropped off at the seaport to leave by ferry. The pool is gorgeous, roomy accomodations, beautiful bathroom and nice breakfast. And best of all, affordable. May 2004. Linda Weill<br... more
