This 5-star luxury hotel has a stunningly imaginative layout, nestling into a hillside just above the Marina Rubicon. It was very comfortable and our room was well-equipped and spacious. That said, we were a little disappointed with certain aspects of service, possibly... more

5* Luxury
from A TripAdvisor Member
Lovely 5 star hotel in a fabulous area just outside Playa Blanca. Its in an exclusive area as just a few steps away from the marina with its exclusive shops and restaurants, away from the crowds like you get at Playa Blanca itself which is only 1 mile to walk to on a good costal path and well lit at night. If you like exclusivity, friendly people and want to get away from it all, this is the place for you. Hotel is clean, staff are very friendly and do anything for you, the rooms are fantastic all with balconies and sea views - sheltered too if you want to sit on your balcony all day in the sun like we did sometimes! Buffet breakfast excellent - everything you could possible choose - help yourself and eat as much as you like. Two breakfast restaurants one from 7.30 till 10.30 and then another one from 10.30 to 12.00 so you can lie in as much as you like and still have breakfast! Restaurants in hotel were expensive but you can expect that for a 5* hotel. We ate out at the marina every night for half the price and with a wonderful location by the sea - what more could one want. Entertainment at night in the hotel - something on everynight from 9.30 as in a show. Activities on offer throughout the day if you want to and you can borrow mountain bikes no charge. Only charge was 9 euros for use of fitness centre which should be free I think, so we didn't use. Definitely go back again.
Beautiful and Great Location!

My wife and I stayed here during our honeymoon and it was wonderful. The staff was very attentive. We received a welcome drink of exotic fruit juices upon arrival. When we mentioned we were on our Honeymoon, a gift of chocolate, champagne and fruit was sent to our room. There were many activities provided for each guest, including spanish lessons, squash, bicycling, and aerobics, as well as many activities for children. There are also paid excursions, such as sailing or off-road touring, which were very reasonably priced. The breakfast buffet had every type of food one could desire and if you missed it, there was an ala carte service in a their very quaint La Geria resturant. I would recommend choosing the half board option, which includes breakfast and dinner. The location is perfect for a nice bike ride to Playa Papagayo and walking to the Playa Blanca area (touristy) The ferry to Fuerteventura, a 30 minute walk, is very nice option. All in all, this is a great resort in a wonderful location.
Fabulous Honeymoon Hotel!
from travelpartners05
Before my husband and I set off we checked out the reviews and were a little worried by some of the comments about this hotel. OK, so we are blinded by love, but I have to say that the service at this beautiful hotel was outstandingly good in almost all areas. The reception knew we were honeymooners and pulled out all the stops. We had numerous extras (champagne, flowers, hand made chocolates, complimentary meal in the La Geria restaraunt). It certainly deserves its 5* rating. The La Florida Buffet was excellent, the food better in here than the La Geria (overpriced and pretentious!). Fresh fish/meat cooked to specific orders. Friendly and eager to please chefs. A huge variety of dishes to suit all tastes. Huge breakfasts, offering everything you could possibly want - and even a large table of fruit outside to help yourself to for during the day. Resident violinist - not to everyone's taste admitedly, but a nice touch. We had a very pleasant room. Spacious, well maintained and cleaned at least twice daily. Fresh towels, dressing gowns, etc. Bed turned down in the evening. Hotel grounds were immaculate: the pools were good, though cool. The Spa complex was ok for a half day, a charge is made. Make sure you ask for a room with a good view - some of them faced blank walls and I would imagine could be prison-like after a few days! Try high up, sea view, the Junior Suites looked nice. Evening entertainment was very passable - have seen much worse than this at other Playa Blanca hotels! We are familiar with the area around the Hotel, and enjoyed strolling along the Marina. The sea front path is now pretty well completed and we walked from one end to the other. Car hire highly recommended. It's amazing what a friendly smile, good manners and a thank you will do for you. Some of the guests who complained about the service should perhaps address their own behaviour. We did see a few very rude people - not least amongst the English. Just because you can afford to stay in a five star hotel doesn't mean you can leave your manners at home!!
Beautifull and friendly
from A TripAdvisor Member
We were a bit afraid to visit this hotel after reading some negative reviews on this website. After visiting the hotel we are very happy we stayed in the Gran Melia. The hotel is beautifull (build like a Lanzarote village) and the staff is very friendly. It's never crowded en you can relax at one of the pools without being disturbed through other guests. The hotel is near a nice marina and Playa Blanca is a 15 min. walk away. The breakfast and dinner-buffet are excellent: good quality and variety. The room is very spacious and well equipped. We had a very nice view on Fuerteventura. The hotel was very clean and well maintained. So don't believe the negative reviews! Visit the hotel, we will visit it again.
Beautiful hotel but very slow service
from janeh47
This beautifully designed hotel is a pleasure to stay in, however we visited at the end of August and were told the hotel was full. We never counted more that 25 guests in any area of the hotel. The restaurants were empty and only the buffet restaurant appered to be in use. The service is very slow and you get the impression that the staff are unsure of their roles, they are not unhelpful just poorly trained. Not 5 star service but certainly 5 star surroundings well maintained and very clean. The area is beautiful with a harbour 2 mins walk from the hotel and Playa Blanca a 20 min walk. The A la carte dining is very expensive and the buffet led us to believe it may not be worth the investment. The breakfasts are varied and well presented but alot of the evening food was cold in the buffet and had been standing a while.
Disappointing!
from MariaCristinaSpain
The hotel is quite beautiful, but not well manteined. My room was not clean, ants in the bathroom. The swimmingpool area was not clean too. The service, the worst! Don't waste your money here and go to the Hesperia Lanzarote.....great place, great service!
Great Hotel, service might be better
from styyxx
My wife and I just came back from a 2 week stay at the Gran Melia Volcan. The hotel itself is really great. The lobby is especially impressive, the outdoor pool is huge and in general the hotel is nice and well maintained. We booked a standard room which turned out to be very spacious with a large bathroom, a sitting area and a balcony overlookin the new marina. As far as the restaurants are concerned, we only had B&B so I cannot comment on the evening buffet. The breakfast buffet is excellent, the variety, choice and quality of the food are among the best I have experienced. We had lunch a few times at the pool restaurant; good standard fare and not too expensive (about 8 euros for a burger+drink+coffe). We only dined once à la carte at the La Geria restaurant; the food was good but we felt it was overly expensive (about 55 euros per person for a 3 course meal + wine), especially compared to other restaurants in the island (never spent more than 30-35 euros per person even in the best ones). Just walk across the road to the "Casa Roja" restaurant in the marina for good food at reasonable prices. Service though was not always what I expect in a 5* star hotel. Some of the staff seemed inexperienced; the maitre at the breakfast buffet was somewhat annoying (he insisted on sitting us even if the room was almost empty, once we dared change tables and he sort of told us off), as were the waiters that would remove the plates and cups even as we were not yet finished. Sometimes they would come in the evening to clean the room a second time, sometimes they wouldn't. Sometimes I would find a morning newspaper, sometimes not. Sometimes the newspaper would be spanish, sometimes italian. Overall, we had no major problems and nothing really spoiled the vacation, but I share the opinion that this is a good 4* hotel rather than a 5*.
Great hotel
from Joe104
We stayed at the Gran Melia Volcan in February. The room was spacious and modern, and all staff were very friendly and helpful. We were travelling with a toddler and the staff couldn't do enough to help. We ate in the buffet restaurant on several evenings as the food was excellent and the waitresses even took our toddler for a walk to give us a break! The only negative points were the very cold pools and the fact that the seafood restaurant was closed as the hotel was quiet. However, we would certainly return. The hotel is about 15mins walk from the town centre along a pleasant promenade, and opposite the Marina Rubicon which has several restaurants and shops, and will be beautiful when finished and fully let.
Wonderful relaxing Hotel
from A TripAdvisor Member
The only thing I had reservations about was the evening buffet meal, but that is because I am fussy. The other restaurants within the Hotel were excellent and the breakfast was the best. Rooms and service really good. Great Hotel will definately be going back. Very quite area but that is how we like it. You can walk into Playa Blanca if you want more life.
