Tour bus ghetto
Our stay here was part of a CHAT tour. The Amalia hotels are affiliated with CHAT. The CHAT tour overall was excellent with a good itinerary and very wonderful guide. It did not feel at all like a herd, but rather like touring with a very knowledgable family friend. The Amalia Olympia is in a whole different, and much lower, class than the tour. I can't imagine anyone would ever stay here if not on a tour, and indeed, most people we saw there seemed to be part of a bus tour group. No Greeks and no independent travelers in sight!... more
Acceptable, but no cheers
The hotel had a nice view from the window. The food was alright (typical of Amalia hotel chain). The beds, as usual, were hard. We had a nice little balcony that I found was enjoyable. No complaints since the hotel was walkable to the shops.
Mediocre hotel
Rooms were dark food mediocre went to swim at the pool, all of the flowers surrounding it were full of bees, thus numerous bees in the pool
Definitely not a 4-star hotel!
First of all, I can't believe our tour group guide said this hotel was a deluxe 4-star hotel and could keep a straight face. This sad hotel obviously is geared toward tour groups. It is old and outdated in 1970's style. The rooms are clean but very average (hard beds, flat rubber pillows, flimsy linens, old carpeting). Food was generic, bland buffet-style food. Olympia is a major stop for tour groups and there is desperate need for another hotel option here.
Poor Location, Poor Room, OK Food
We stayed here as part of a tour group. From a location perspective, the hotel is well out of town. If you want to go into town, you will need a car or take a taxi. The rooms are Spartan. The TV is maybe 13 inches. The mattresses are terrible. There are no alarm clocks in the rooms. The air conditioning in the room failed overnight. We woke up and sometime during the night the air conditioning had just shut down. The one saving grace is that we had a better than expected dinner with our tour group. Certainly not 5... more
Could be much better
Strangely enough, I have to agree with all the previous reviews: This hotel is definitely leaving both negative and positive impressions. Starting from the minuses, the rooms surely need restauration and badly! Beds, carpets, furniture, bathroom installations, everything looks like it's of the same age like the ancient Olympia antiquities in the neighbourhood. As for the impoliteness of the staff, well, unfortunately this behaviour is very common in greek hotels - trust me, I'm Greek, and I know what I'm talking about. On the... more
Really bad place
This would have gotten a terrible review accept I don't think there is anything better. There are some other hotels in Olympia Center which are equally as bad but than you can walk around the town instead of being stuck here. Rooms stink, food is unedible and location is isolated. We stayed here as part of our bus tour. Beds stink, mold in the AC system. Only about ten rooms were occupied when we were here but still staff was unpleasant. Carpet is probably original. Very sad place. Pool was good for swimming.
Enjoyed the Amalia Olympia
We stayed in the Amalia Olympia hotel on the 2nd leg of a week long trip through the Peloponnese/mainland of Greece. We stayed exclusively in Amalia hotels ( a greek chain of hotels). We enjoed this hotel, but I honestly cannot remember the rooms. We had standard rooms -- two rooms right next to each other. They were standard rooms with twin beds. The layout of the Amalia hotels is almost always the same. The decor of this room was brighter than our first hotel in Nauplion, but unremarkable. Again, although many of the rooms seemed to... more
Avoid the Amalia Olympia Hotel
Stay any place else but avoid this hotel. While the entrance and lobby look very nice the rooms are terrible. We were part of a group and we all had very much the same experience with our rooms. They look like dorm rooms. The shower did not work. The tv did not work. Their is no way to lock the door from the inside. Their is no window to open, only a balcony door which must remain open if you want any air at all. While I love hard beds these were like sleeping on the floor. In the morning people had aches and pains from the beds. The... more
Typical Amalia - Good Hotel
Olympia's Hotel Amalia compares well with the other hotels in the chain. The room was clean and spacious. The meals were good, but the wait-staff were not attentive enough. The only drwback is that this hotel is a 15-20 minute walk from town.
