Porto Mykonos Hotel Reviews

Sep 2008, Mrs C Reeves

We had a super time at Porto Mykonos. The before service emails to and from Roula were great and all aspects of our requests were met. We know staying in a boutique style hotel was not going to be easy with a 2yr old boy and 8mth old girl but they helped out and made us... more

Perfect Honey Moon
We stayed in Porto Mykonos Hotel for our Honey Moon. It was perfect. Porto Mykonos is a excellent hotel, with good infrastructure, nice pool... GREAT. It gets better with their hostess Roula Kormpou.. Always prompt to attend any issue, fast, competent, and very kind and sweet. tks for the goof time. YOU MUST GO THERE!!!!
Wonderful . . . . . . . UNTIL you check out
We had a wonderful time. The hotel is in a perfect location and has exceptional views. Ignore the comments that people have made stating "the view was blocked by a car park" - yes there is a car park way across the road, but it did not interfere with the the amazing view from the rooms or the hotel lobby. The breakfast was far more superior than I had expected. And the two staff working the breakfast room worked their butt's off! They were constantly thinking of your needs in advance. Adrian and the young lady that works with him were exceptional. The rooms are very basic, however, they were clean and had exceptional views. My only gripe is that of the three rooms we had, the TV reception was crap in all three - but we didn't go to Mykonos to watch TV! We spent about $6000 in total at the hotel. On the last day, I noticed my flight was scheduled a day later to the rest of our party, so I stay another night in Mykonos (but not at Porto Mykonos). I tried getting a taxi to the airport but after an hour of no success, I asked the young man at the reception desk if he could call a taxi for me (remember, we have just spent about $6000). I was greeted with "you have already checked out". In my view I wasnt asking for much, however, I learnt the quick way that once you have checked out, their hands are washed of you. I had an exceptional holiday at Porto Mykonos, however, this last encounter did put a bitter taste in my mouth. If you get a chance, go to the BEST restaurant on the island, it is at Agios Stostious beach and it is the only restaurant their. They have no electricity so the food has to be the freshest of the freshest and I can honestly say it was the best of the best meal I had in Mykonos. The restaurant closes at 6.30 pm!
Perfect!
Porto Mykonos was spectacular. They even called us a day before our arrival to arrange our airport transfer as Mykonos has few taxis. Other people waited over an hour at the airport. that was just the beginning of a fabulous stay. They require you to relax with endless champagne before rushing to your room. The rooms are cool, large, quiet, comfy, all with sweeping views. We had booked the least expensive rooms as we had 4 children and didn't care about their accomodations, but Porto Mykonos still gave us a huge 2-room suite just because we were paying for 3 rooms - though the kids' basic rooms were also wonderful. It is a PERFECT location just 4 minutes to town and NOT uphill too much. It was so perfect at the pool deck that we cancelled our private car for touring the beaches. The sun drops between 2 islands right in front of you. Do not stay at the crazy expensive beach resort hotels and struggle to get to town. The wonderful manager, Roula, gave us the best restaurant and touring advice. She also arranged to keep our bags and bring them to the ferry dock so we would have no worries on our last day after checking out. The Porto Mykonos is where you want to stay - the reason you go to the island.
Porto Mykonos Hotel - Absolutely Fabulous!!!
This year's holiday in Mykonos (26 Aug - 1 Sep) was absolutely fabulous!!! Upon our arrival at the hotel, my boyfriend and I were informed by Roula, the manager, that due to the fire in Athens, a number of the guests have had to extend and that there was no room available. However, she infromed us that she has made the necessary arrangements for an alternative accommodation for one night at a nearby (walking distance) guest house/hotel (of also splendid quality). She has given us the option to choose from three luxury rooms/suites when we return the next morning. Our luggages were taken care of and we could check in anytime after enjoying our complementary champagne. Fabulous!!! Soon after breakfast the following morning, Roula showed us the three rooms. We chose room 241 - the room was not only immacualetely clean, it had the largest terrace and the best view of the town, the sea, the pool and the beautiful sunset. What more can you ask? Nothing really. :-)) During our entire stay, the Porto Mykonos Hotel team, from Roula, Christos, Hanan (to name a few) did nothing but to ensure our stay was the most pleasant and most memorable. All the staff were friendly and were more than willing to go that extra mile to ensure the guests felt at home and looked after. And everyone seemed to enjoy what they were doing. We certainly did! The experience was certainly fantastic and will certainly go a long, long way.We will not hesitate to recommend Porto Mykonos Hotel to all our friends who would like to visit Mykonos.
Nice Boutique hotel close to town
This is a nice, clean boutique hotel that is within walking distance of Mykonos. The rooms are on the small side but comfortable. The views of the sea are gorgeous, however the hotel overlooks the main port parking lot, which isnt much to behold. The cars, traffic, etc. can be noisy. Sunsets are beautiful to watch from the reception area. Service is very good - they really make an effort to make you feel welcome. Pool is nice.
Good, but expensive for what it is
It is a good hotel: nice location, great staff and nice pool. However, the bathroom was really small and we found the price very high for the room standard.
Great Hotel
I stayed together with 3 other friends for 4 nights in July in this hotel. After last year's terrible and expensive experience at the Contiki resort at Kalafatis Beach, we were very happy for the pleasant surprise this time. Great location - you can walk to the center of Mykonos Town in 5 minutes but have a much more relaxed environment; the view from the reception and the swimming pool is fantastic, and the staff is very nice, efficient and helpful. The rooms are beautifully decorated, and the beds are sooooo comfortable! and absolutely no noises at night! We took a bed & breakfast board and the breakfast buffet (contrary to most hotels in Greece) was very good (except for coffee & orange juice, sorry to say). Only cons - the price of all extras was way too high, really. Beware if you order a cappuccino or café latte during breakfast (since coffee from buffet was not the best). That's 4 euros guys! Same goes for drinks and food at the bar by the swimming pool (salads 18 - 20 euro...). But, all in all, I would highly recommend this hotel to all fellow travellers!
A solid 2 star performance for a 3 star hotel with a 5 star price.
Family of 5, we had 2 rooms at Porto Mykonos Hotel, booked through Venere.com. Rooms 231, and 207, a triple and double respectively. Both rooms were ok on size, larger than some other rooms we stayed in on our trip, but smaller than others. The bathrooms in both were on the small side, a touch old and on a shade primitive with a tiled open shower stall for bathing which tended to let water out all over the place - and in 207 the drain was slow and nearly flooded the bathroom - but in either case the bathrooms were serviceable. 207 had small colorful leaves on the floor when we first came in which my wife thought was an intentional artistic touch since the hotel seems to try hard to be as upscale as possible, but it turned out that the leaves just blew in under the door and got tracked around everywhere in the room. The rooms were otherwise clean, no complaints there. 207 had more of a view since it was down the hill from check in, located in a lower bank of rooms. You could see the old port out the window to the left from our room, and straight out was a quay that constantly had ferries coming and going from which was interesting. There is a busy road between the dock and the hotel, and there was traffic noise constantly. It wasn't exactly "restful" as in you'd expect in a seaside hotel in the old part of town - which is what I was expecting. Also - the hotel - as is most of the island, I gather, in the flight path of the airport, so there were planes flying over several times a day. I mentioned the old port. The hotel says it's right by the port and a 5 minute walk. This is true if a) you know where you're going, and b) you docked at the old port. Our ferry docked at the "new" port a few kilometers away, and required a car service or taxi. The problem is, we docked at 11:00 at night with another ferry coming in right after ours, and a) taxis won't take 5 people together unless you get really lucky or bribe them, but more importantly - b) you won't even see a taxi at the new port unless you're the first person off the boat and the taxis have returned since the last bunch of people came in. We weren't impressed that a hotel which set itself up as being as nice as they are did not have a car or van service they could get to pick us up. When we did finally arrive at the hotel, they offered us a champagne welcoming reception, which, at 11:45 at night after being on a six hour ferry and after trying to tackle taxis (along with a couple hundred other people) - I wasn't really in the mood for and it seemed a little erudite and "put-on". The desk was helpful, however, in booking us a shuttle for an early flight when we left, so that was something. The hotel did not have internet - wirelss or cat5 available in-room. The hotel is near the old town, and not a difficult walk, but the online stuff I read made it sound like it was right in-town at the old port, and it's not. This doesn't make it bad, but it wasn't what I expected. The pool was small but clear and clean with very few people, so that was nice. The food that we had was good but I don't remember anything exceptional. We had the hotel do laundry for us, and for what it cost, well, it cost ALOT even by hoidy-toidy hotel standards! The common areas were clean, and in most cases the outside areas in the hotel boundary verged on beautiful. But, that and embroidered sheets were not enough to sway me. The rate was very high for what we got (and for a 3 star hotel): a 2 star performance at a 5 star price. Would we recommend it? Well, IF you get a real good price, yeah, sure.
Terrible Hotel
We stayed at Porto Mykonos from 17 to 24 of July 2007. We arrived at the hotel at about 11.30 p.m and after a very tiring check in procidure, we were finally given the key of our room. Despite the fact that when we made the reservation we requested a room with a double bed at the upper floor, we were given a room with two beds at the ground floor instead. Not even one of our requests was satisfied. Furthermore, the room was not clean enough and especially the bathroom which by the way must have been built at least 20 years ago. Of course when we made the reservation we had been told that all the rooms were fully renovated in 2007. Our bathroom was definently not!!!! The only good thing about that room was the view. we asked to be moved to another room at the same night. The Manager of the Hotel , Roulla, told us that there was not availability at that time but she promised to give us a better room on 20th July. On 20th of July we went to Roulla to get a new room as she promised. We were really suprised when she told us that she did not promise anything like that. She was very very rude!!!!! Actually the first rude manager we have ever met. Actually she was the only rude person from all the staff. The girls at the breakfast (do not expect much for the breakfast despite the promises) and Yiannis at the swimming pool were very polite and helpul. Anyway, after a heated discussion we were given on 21st of July a "superior room" with a double bed on the first floor. Don't expect much for their superior rooms. Again the room was not clean enough. Actually it was full of hair. Another requeat that we made from the beggining was a late check out. The last day of our stay, Roulla told us that we could not stay in the same room because she expected new arrivals. She told us though that we can use the room of the owner which as she said was vey beautiful. We said ok and the receptionist came with us to show us the room. She opened the door and left immediatly as someone was chasing her. Now we understand why. You can not beleive that!!!!!!!! She gave us a very very bad room which was being used by the staff and of course not by the owner!!! There shoes were still there!!!! No light in the bathroom to make a shower before our flight. A terrible experience!!! When we asked for some explanation from Roulla, for once more she was so rude. Me and my husband we will never go back.
Great location, Helpful staff, Great Scenery
Porto Mykonos is located in a very nice location, about 5 to 10 minutes walk to the city centre. We have no trouble checking in to the hotel and were welcomed by the female receptionist. We check in within 10 minutes after arrival at the hotel. The hotel got a great size pool, overlooking the sea :) and there is a bar by the pool as well. BTW, the view of Mykonos town centre at the hotel lobby is just marvellous, especially during night time :) We like hanging at the lobby, enjoying the fantastic views on a really comfie sofas with a very relaxing background music the hotels played at the reception. The breakfast is great too, got a good selection of hot and cold food and the kitchen staffs are very nice and helpful too. The room is not great but we got a balcony overlooking the sea and part of mykonos town centre. BTW, there is internet facility available (free of charge for the 1st 15 mintue) in the hotel lobby and through WIFI, which is a big plus for us as most of the hotels on the Greek Island don't have internet facility. I will recommend Porto Mykonow to everyone :)
