Great place to stay in Coimbra
We thought this hotel was wonderful. Having visited Portugal many times over the years Coimbra had never been on our itinery before. Quinta das Lagrimas is great as it is far enough out of the city to be very peaceful but near enough to walk into the centre (c. 20 mins walk). We found the hotel to be very clean, staff exceptionally helpful, the gardens were beautiful (especially the tree with amazing roots!), swimming pool was great, again surrounded by nice garden. Breakfast was very good - we did not eat in either of the... more
Exclusive Lagrimas
We spent 3 days in this fantastic hotel and everything was great, a big room in the old palace, the staff very friendly and nice, breakfast very good, and the dinner in the restaurante "A Capela" was fabulous. We definitely recommend Quinta das Lagrimas.
Good Place, if you can get a Discount
We enjoyed our stay at this quinta, although the advertising about the whole Pedro-Ines romantic tragedy made this place to be more than it really is. The rooms felt more modern than old, even though we were in the ‘old’ wing. Food at the restaurant was great, as was the morning breakfast buffet. The spa had an interestingly-designed black pool and nice steam rooms. The service was good, and all in all, we would recommend the place, especially if you can get a discount during the off season.
Beautiful historical hotel
This is a beautiful hotel in the university city of Portugal. The location is slightly outside the centre of the city and a fair walk if you do not have your own transport. We stayed in a room in the historical part of the building which was spacious and comfortable, although the air conditioning system was rather noisy if that type of thing disturbs you. The more modern parts of the hotel appeared to have less character so you may want to ask for a room in the older part if you like character in your hotel room. There are two... more
A bit pricey but worth it!
My parents stayed at the Palacio wing (beautiful period furniture) and we opted the contemporary Spa room. We loved the minimalist style of the new expansion, and unlike some of the previous reviewers, did not encounter the noise problem albeit saw the construction of some housing project nearby to the south of the property. Breakfast was served in the airy dining hall in the new wing, wonderful setting! The corridor connecting the 2 wings were filled with artefacts from the celebrated love story between Pedro and Ines. We enjoyed... more
Great contrast between Old and New
Had a room in the palace for one night. The room was very spacious and well equiped, however was very dark even though our window looked out over the garden.I think if we stayed here again would opt for a room in the very modern minimilistic part of the hotel. The hotel has a heated indoor pool, outdoor pool, gym and spa as well as saunas and a turkish bath. Breakfast was very good (you could even have a glass of sparkling wine) We liked the fact that the hotel was a setting for a love story ( tragic as it was) and had lovely... more
Exceptional dining, comfortable surroundings
This is a lovely hotel on the outskirts of Coimbra. An easy 15 minute walk takes you across the Mondego River to the heart of Coimbra. The hotel has exceptionally good food in two restaurants; one more relaxed and one more formal. This is a Relais et Chareaux property and the class with which it is operated shows it. So do the prices. Rooms in the main buiding have old world charm while those in two newer buildings are very comfortale if somewhat less charming. The hotel has a beautiful pool which was very much appreciated after a hot... more
A big disappointment
The description on the website --- made this hotel look fantastic, an historical building in a large park within walking distance of the sights of Coimbra. When we arrived, we drove into the tree lined avenue that leads to the hotel and our expectations were high. A member of the staff rushed down the stairs to take our bags and park our car, and we were checked in quickly and efficiently. But then...we were led to our room through the beautiful old public rooms and suddenly into modern corridors painted in garish shades of red and... more
Great hotel
Stayed at the Quinta Das Lagrimas for a couple of nights last Bank Holiday weekend. Situated a 10min drive from the centre of Coimbra, the hotel provided a good and comfortable base for exploring both Coimbra and the surrounding area. The original part of the hotel has been customised from its time as a stately home and provides quality facilities and fittings. There is a new extension featuring a restaurant, spa, outdoor pool and further rooms. The pool is beautiful. A slight word of caution is the construction work going on next door.... more
wonderful hotel
we recently returned from a weekend in Coimbra an Quinta das Lagrimas made our stay special...At the beginning we were dissapointed with the property because we were under the impression that the Quinta is isolated and surrounded by gardens. In fact, we could see ongoing construction all around the quinta and the pool area overlooked ugly old apartment buildings. But after a while, after walking through the gardens and enjoying the spa (fabulous place!) we completely changed our minds. The location (amidst construction) was the only "minus"... more
