The rooms are comfortable, clean and tidy, reasonably spacious. Breakfasts offered a wide range of choice, and to a high standard. Nice that the front door is staffed 24hrs. The staff were very helpful and friendly. The hotel is located close to two metro stations and... more

Nice stay
For my first trip to Paris I was looking for accomodations that were more modern than "French"/over the top. Being a New Yorker I am aware of the obnoxious prices hotels charge, so I did some homework and discovered Hotel Soft. They have a great website: www.hotelsoftparis.com. The neighborhood (near the Canal) is very charming, close to several Metro stations and the prices were not bad at all. I paid 110 euro each night for a full sized bed and combo shower/tub. The only flaw I would call out is that they really need to remodel the lobby/check in area. I honestly thought I was in the wrong hotel when I was checking in...but going up one flight, the room was just as it was pictured on the website. Clean, modern, no frills. Perfect. The staff was friendly. I skipped the breakfast served in the lobby every morning, but they do serve food? coffee, tea every morning. If you stay there, make sure you take a printout of your reservation. They have a bit of a mom-and-pop approach to checking you in, so any confirming paperwork will help them match you up to your room!
Pleasant stay with friendly staff (most of the time!)
Our 2 night stay here was very pleasant as rooms were tidy and clean, and breakfast was fairly generous including cereals, juice and plenty of breads and pastries. The only strange experience was at breakfast time trying to get our coffee. Whilst all the other guests were asked whether they wanted coffee or tea, we were ignored and had to ask specially. Then when I asked for coffee in my best French, I was confronted with a somewhat rude response. On the first day when this happened I thought that maybe she hadn't seen us. However, it happened again on the next day too. Whilst we were waiting patiently other (French) guests arriving for breakfast after us were getting served with their coffee. This was now getting a little annoying, so I had to ask for coffee like the previous morning and then got a really sharp response of "SIL VOUS PLAIT, SIL VOUS PLAIT....". Well this was what Paris used to be like years ago, and it was ok as it gave us something to laugh about. Without characters life would be a boring place! All other hotel staff were extremely friendly and nice to us and we would stay here again.
Perfect Hotel for a Great Holiday
I loved this place! I went there for five nights with my 13-year-old daughter, and it was perfect for us in every way - the location is ideal (12 mins relaxed walk from Gard Du Nord, and about 6 from Gare De L'Est - two other Metros are very near by - the hotel is within walking distance of Sacre Couer and Pompidou Centre, and the excellent restaurant 'Chartiers' is also easily walkable. Nearby restaurants and very good, and the supermarket nearby is handy too. Our room was bright and cheerful, comfortable, clean, and the toilet/shower-room was excellent too. Although the Hotel is near a main street (useful for buses) the little side-road where it is situated is very quiet - we had no difficulty getting to sleep - the hotel manager is superb, and has a genuine interest in making your stay as relaxed, comfortable, and as happy as possible - he speaks good English and is very welcoming - I can't wait to go back (and I will !!)
Good, friendly, clean, reasonable tourist hotel
I stay in Paris often, usually for business, and I am always looking for decent E100 to E125 hotels. They are pretty hard to find, but there are some. A few bits of advice I can offer is, first the star system is not that reliable - I've stayed in fairly nice 2 stars and complete crap 3 stars. Particularly in the 2-3 star range, you don't know what you are going to get and the pictures on the web don't always mean much. Secondly, hotels is Europe are much more expensive than US, if you are paying $200/night in Paris, don't expect what you will get for the same amount in the US. Lower your expectations, and get over it, you are in Paris, so enjoy Paris, and don't worry too much about the imperfections of your hotel room! If you want perfect luxury, you have to shell out $300+ a night. The other big complaint I have about hotels in Paris is the local hotels sometimes get together and "share bookings" - ie, when one fills up, they move new bookings to to a hotel around the corner that they have an agreement with. I have shown up more than once in Paris to be told, the hotel is full and we put you in another hotel around the corner - not often with good results. I hate this practice. What I do now is I tend to confirm directly with the hotel that I will be staying in their hotel and not moved to another, particularly if I book thru hotels.com and other middle-man booking services. If the hotel offers me the same deal, I will book directly with the hotel. The bottom line is, it is hard to get something nice for under 100-125 euros in Paris, not impossible, but not easy. Having said that, I have found 2 hotels near Gare du Nord (an area I like for various reasons) that are in the 100 euro range. The first is Soft Hotel ([-]), rooms range from 100-125 euros. I stayed in one of their 120 euro rooms (room number 502). But the hotel rooms varied a lot in size, the cheaper ones were small, the more expensive were larger. The hotel is clean, the room I stayed in was a reasonable size for Paris, and modern decoration. The hotel was friendly, a tourist hotel, normal continental breakfast. A good basic hotel, but not luxury. Room 502 was on the street side, so there was lots of light, but certainly some street noise. Paris is a busy, dense city, you cannot expect quiet if you are on the street side, particularly on the lower floors - by 7AM the city is humming (and is never quiet). Having said that, it actually was fairly quiet for Paris. My only complaint for this hotel was the WiFi Internet connection was unreliable, very important to me, but not important for many I'm sure. The second hotel is the one I prefer, and TripAdvisor travellers agree as well is Hotel Villa St-Martin ([-]). Basically I would repeat all the same as Soft Hotel, except just a little nicer, and the WiFi works. The hotel is also bigger, and busier - probably 2-3 times the size of Soft Hotel above.
great hotel
Stayed with my friend for 3 nights and was not disappointed. The rooms are clean and well decorated (although a mini bar would have been great!!!) It was in a good location that allowed for access to all the main sightseeing that Paris offers. The Moroccan gentleman on the front desk was very helpful, suggesting a great place to eat and generally offering every assistance we could want. Would definitely go again.
Little Polished Gem
A lovely little hotel about 3-5 min walk from Gare l'Est. Recently renovated, it presents nice clean rooms, comfortable bed and large bathroom with good hot shower (a rarity in hotel near major train station) for a very reasonable price. The hotel staff are very friendly and kind. The gentleman at the reception took pity on my husband and offered him chocolate crossaint and a drink while he waited for me to arrive (from Australia) in the hotel lobby. There is a self-service bicycle stand (Velo Paris) offering bicycle rental for as low as 1-2 euro. Canal St Martin is just a stone throw away, and is a good spot for enjoyable Sunday riding (no traffic). A good bakery nearby makes excellent ham, tomato and lettuce baguette. The area round Paris's major train station are always a little on the dodgy side, but we felt safe staying in this hotel especially since the sun doesn't go down till late in summer and there are lots of people around. If you are planning to catch the train from Gare d'Nord or Gare l'Est after checking out, the hotel offers free luggage storage in a locked room. Will definitely come back again.
Terrific hotel
This is a terrific little hotel near the Gare de L'est and Gare du Nord. Very simple, lovely, comfortable and clean rooms. Firm beds, nice bathrooms. The staff is incredible. The host when I was here accommodated my every request and was extremely nice and helpful. Nice tapas bar next door, Place de la Republic just around the corner, easy walk to the Marais. Yes, the stairs are dark (as another reviewer said) but you can turn the lights on at each landing.
top hotel highly recommended
we booked this hotel through hotelopia on the good review on there. be aware that teher is also a hotel Eden and a hotel Magenta, both of which have velow average reviews. Eden Magenta, soon to be renamed hotel soft Paris as the property has been taken over and the new owners have nearly completed a major refurb and modernisation operation. when we were there only the scaffolding at the front remained to be completed. the rooms are clean and fresh, flat screen tv and free wifi internet throughout. the staff are polite and friendly and breakfast (included) is standard, breadbasket coffee & juice This hotel is perfect for a short visit to paris. only 10 min walk from Gare du Nord where Eurostar arrives and shorter from Gare de l'Est. Metro stations are within 5 mins either up or down the main road and a bus stop is there as well The new owners are aiming to get the property awared its 3rd star very soon and it does rightfully deserve it
Great hotel
We stayed 4 nights in Eden Magenta hotel in Paris. The room was always clean, and the staff were always very friendly and helpful. The location is also great, as it is close to good transport links, but is also off the main boulevard, so not too noisy. Great for budget travellers.
