Location! Location! Location!
After a harrowing experience in another hotel in Paris (read my review on the Hotel Hibiscus), I had pretty much given up hope on finding a decent not-too-expensive room in the City of Lights. I had initially planned on staying at the neighbouring Hotel Monge but due to a lack of availability there, I decided to opt for the Hotel des Arenes instead. We had a very spacious triple room (Room 59 I believe) which overlooked the arena. It was clean and comfortable and tha bathroom was acceptable. What I really liked about the hotel was its... more
Not Bad, Not Great
My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Des Arenes over New Years. We've visited Paris several times and the hotel was nothing special, though it was a good value for the money. We paid 110E per night, which included breakfast. The manager let us check out several rooms before we decided on one. All were clean, and some were quite small. The decor is a bit tired, but I'll trade that for good water pressure, hot water and a comfortable bed. The manager tried to sell us on some Moulin Rouge packages and tried to sell us on the restaurant next door.... more
Nice little Hotel
We stayed there for a long weekend. We got the best room at the top floor towards the arena. Close to every thing.
has pluses and minuses
We stayed here April 2005, the location is great, right around the corner from the subway and close to many shops and restaurants as well as a good starting point for walking tours. That said, our room was very small and the breakfast was not great. We enjoyed looking out the window toward the back watching the Boule players in the Arena in the evening. I would consider staying again but only in a larger room and in a room facing the back, and I'd eat breakfast somewhere else.
Great location, good price
I booked two rooms at the Hotel des Arenes in january 2005 for five people. The reception answered quickly and were friendly, and offered rates of 80/110 for a double/triple room. The rooms were small, but clean, and the view of the arena was very charming. The staff were helpful and friendly also during our stay. Concidering the price and location I would rate des Arenes as a good choice - and recommend it for travellers that aren't going to spend all their time in the hotel room anyway.
Good Recommendation
This hotel was recommended to me by my parents who have stayed there twice in the last 3 years. It is a very nice, but small hotel in an ideal location. wWe paid 93euros/night and it was worth it. The hotel is located directly between two metro stations, and is a 10-15 minute walk to Notre Dame and other popular attractions. The hotel staff is friendly and speaks excellent English. The double room was a bit small, but it had a lovely view of the Roman arena behind the hotel. The beds were comfortable, but the shower was what i didn't... more
Yuck, yuck, yuck
Due to scheduling problems, my fiance and I had to stay at Hotel des Arenes for our last night. They didn't have our room ready when they said they would. The room was generally dirty. The guy at the front desk (Mr. Sallah) was just sleazy-cheesy. We expected more out of a three-star hotel. For comparison, we stayed at Hotel Residence Monge, which was right next door to Hotel des Arenes, during the beginning of the week (a two-star rated hotel). For several euros more, it was a world of difference.
You can do better
Just returned from our trip to Europe and we stayed at Hotel Arenes for 2 nights (april 1st-3rd, 2005). The hotel was okay but I wouldn't recommend it unless you get it for a steal. Fortunately I was prepared for a small room and it really was tiny - especially for three people (we stayed in room 59, overlooking the arena). In the end it served our purpose b/c we wanted inexpensive, decent location and we didn't plan to spend any time in the room except for sleeping and showering. I was not expecting a luxurious hotel but it was... more
Decent, cheap for Paris hotel
We've stayed here on two occasions, this February (2005) and last year in February, just because of the price and the location. We paid 79 euros for a double with bathroom and breakfast included and I would not have paid more. Although this hotel has three stars, it is not deserving of them. I am still unsure what sets it apart from being a 2 star. The double beds are mushy and we found ourselves stuggling to keep from ending up bundled together in the middle. I know that there are other rooms with two twin beds, which could be more... more
