" The transfer time from Faro to Praia... "
Submitted By: debbie hughes
The transfer time from Faro to Praia de Rocha was 2 hours! The actual distance should take just 45mins but when the coach has to drop off at 5 resorts it adds time to the journey.
Rather basic and tired 2* accommodation in this part-residential block of apartments. We booked and paid for a studio for two, but ended up with a two bed roomed apartment that could sleep 8! So we had space to spread out! No kettle or toaster. Very firm beds. Clean sheets and towels.
Cleaners only came in 3 times in 7 days (we were there over a bank holiday).
No real facilities on site, except a small shop, and a bar in the pool area with pool tables and seating outside, that also sold fast food and soft drinks and ice creams, and a second bar that opened in the evenings.
Polite and friendly English speaking reception staff who would book taxis if you asked. Very helpful also explained bus time tables, and directions to town.
The town was up a hill and across a busy road so think twice if you have children or are elderly and cant walk up hills. Rather a trek to go to the restaurants twice a day would liked to have been nearer to the seafront. Medium size swimming pool at the side of the block looked clean. We saw the pool being cleaned whilst we were there, and sun loungers were hosed every day.
Nice clean grass area around pool that was never too crowded, always managed to get a sun lounger and also managed to find some shade.
This town has a bit of everything, beautiful golden beaches, palm trees, rocks caves and cliffs, gift shops, little super markets, bars, Irish bars, restaurants, casino, marina, boat rides and cafes.
Excellent restaurants in the town, such as the veranda restaurant- 3 course tourist menu 5.90Euros, casa de Praia de Rocha- stroganoff 7.50Euros- sit outside with a sea view, Cafe Blanca 3 courses 6.00euros - sit outside upstairs on the veranda, The Concorde- also a special 2 course, croke park, Dave and Chris and many more. Good breakfast at Kathys cafe on the seafront for 5Euros. Plenty of cafes selling cakes crepes and pastries. Most cafes and bars have large screen TV's to show the world cup at the moment if you want to see the games we went to the Red Lion
Did not like the meal at the Garraafiera Restaurant - appetizers are brought to the table- bread olives tuna and chickpeas and charged for even if you have not ordered them - this can put your bill up by 6euros so beware, their jacket potatoes are cold and under cooked, the steaks can be a bit on the tough side and the sangria is weak, add to this a rude waiter and you have a place to avoid!
very attractive beaches and cliffs, plenty of new work being undertaken on the seafront to improve the access to the beach, new steps and a large board walk across the sand to help with pushchairs.
If you want to go somewhere for lunch and like fish visit the little fishing village of Alvor, many fish restaurants that bbq sardines eat on the harbour river front overlooking the water. There is also a very old and beautiful church at the top of the village, Alvor is very hilly so wear flat shoes.
We had a lovely week in Praia de Rocha with plenty to see and do.
