We stayed here for two weeks and thought it was fabulous in March 2003. The rooms were great except for the "friends" geckos. The staff were great and entertaining. There were fun events daily and lots of interaction with staff if thats what you're looking for. The day trips were a little expensive. You had to put up with some ignorant Americans but thats normal. There were a few unfortunate incidences. Friends rooms were broken into while on the beach. There is not enough security. There were always locals mulling around opened fire...

This place is a dump!! I would never recommend it!

My husband and I just returned from a weeks vacation at the Sierra, we booked through RCI and were expecting a 5 star hotel (as it was listed) From the outside the hotel looks beautiful. The first thing that hits you when you walk into the lobby is the smell, everything in the hotel smells like musty, mildew, they said it was the chemicals they put in the airconditioner to clean it but I have a hard time believing that. The lobby itself is very pretty, the front desk staff were friendly enough, but there always seemed to be a long line and...

Kids & The Sierra Manzanillo
from A TripAdvisor Member
The Sierra is in a beautiful spot, the scenery terrific. Staff very good. Anyone who goes should be fully aware that it is a family resort and there were thousands of kids. If you are looking for a family vacation with lots of kid activities, the Sierra will work. If your idea of a vacation is some peace and quiet away from the madding crowd, go some where else. It is a very crowded spot.Even though it has a 5 star rating, it is NOT a true 5 star hotel. Facility is an average 3 star in my book. Lots of nice marble work though.
Bad vacations

After long time waiting for our vacations, we went to Manzanillo, and the travel agent made our reservations in The Sierra Hotel. We was there last year over April... that's why we went there for second time. Well, this time It wasn't good like the first time we ask for a suite, cause if you have small kids Suite is better, so the travel agent told us that we can not request that until we got there and see what is avalible, anyways we was traveling all day for get there, and they don't wanted to give us a Suite and put us in a small room in...

Just got back from a week at the SM and here's my take. There was only one other couple that spoke English in the hotel. I guess the regular tourist season is about over, so it was mostly local families staying there. It was summy everyday and about 85* and 70% humidity, so it gets pretty steamy there. Only about half on the staff speaks English, so a book of handy Spanish phrases would have been helpful. The hotel staff was great. Be careful though if you ask a question and they don't understand many times they say yes and smile, but it is...

Mostly good, some bad
from A TripAdvisor Member
Just got back from Manzanillo yesterday after a week's vacation there. Found the Sierra Manzanillo to be a very beautiful hotel with great views of the ocean and Santiago Bay. The food was what we expected, but the buffet does get to you after a few days and we found that sometimes things that were served at the buffet for supper would appear at breakfast, sometimes in the eggs! haha The a la carte meals were pretty good, great ribs, not Tony Roma's but great ribs. The English spoken by the staff was a bit rough but I guess we should be...

Good's and bad's...mostly good though

We travel to Mexico frequently, and have never really been disappointed in any of our location choices, and we were not this time either. The hotel was very clean, lots of beautiful marble. Hotel lobby could be a little more open with the lobby bar not even having a breeze felt really claustrophobic. Largest bathroom we've ever had! Comfortable bed, too. Mini bar stocked daily with beer, bottled water, and sodas. Just be careful on room location. The first room they "gave" us was so far placed that we didn't even feel like we were part...

Vacationers Beware
from A TripAdvisor Member
We just arrived home after a one week visit to the Sierra Manzanillo. The morning after arriving our credit card was removed from the supposedly secured front desk safety deposit box, the card was copied and purchases were made the next morning in Manzanillo while we slept. We discovered this after returning and checking our on-line Visa statement. The matter is being investigated by the appropriate authorities. Need I say more?
Great Staff
from A TripAdvisor Member
Sierra Manzanillo has a beautiful location. I went with my two best friends for our graduation trip and just got back. We are only 17 years old, however, we felt very safe in this resort, and had a blast! It is a small resort, yet comfy and beautiful. The food was not very good, however, and some of the accomodations were weak. However, the activity staff were amazing, providing us with non-stop activities all day long, and then doing a show at night. They work very hard and really made our vacation special. I would recommend this...

Company Trip

Trip Feb. 4-11, 1999. WE LOVED IT. Hotel was beautiful. We ventured into town by foot - felt safe all the time. Service was excellent Saw maid dropped off at hotel in convertible. Weather was perfect. Food was great. Loved the 2 male servers at indoor restaurant - very comical. Entertainment was wonderful. Beach was pebbly, but bearable. Unionized market stayed on one side of beach. Water was DEEP! Snorkelling was amazing - heard whales. We definately will go back!
