We booked the Clarion Suites for our first holiday abroad with our 12 month old son in October 2006. We wanted to be able to have a meal and enjoy our evening after he had gone to bed, so the one bedroom apartment with a kitchenette was ideal. We found the accommodation... more

ok
good hotel for a fair price !!! Although a little bit outdated it is clean with a superb kitchen in it. Also in walking distance of places of intrest to see in Lisbon
better than a room in a hotel
The Clarion suites 'room' booked by us was a suite that had a bedroom, a lounge and a kitchenette (with fitted kitchen, microwave, electric hob, but no oven) and bathroom (with bath and bidet). The floor space of the accomodation was more than my 1 bedroom flat in london so it was a welcomed space. The lounge even had a dining table. There was also two tvs: one in bedroom and 1 in lounge. The location is easy to find, near the marques de pombal roundabout (just below eduado iv park). don't be put off by the fact that it is a few hundred yards from a small macdonalds restaurant: it is in fact a quiet cobbled street on a hill in the financial district, made up mainly of offices. It is extremely good-value and the suites are cleaned daily. Ideal for a family or friends travelling together who would welcome a bit more space than just a room in a hotel. Tip: at the top of eduardo park is a 6-floor cortes ingles department store. In the basement of it is a large supermarket where you can buy practically anything that you can buy in uk supermarkets. However eating out is a great experience as the food is good and generally much cheaper than the uk. I recommend any dish with prawns as they were so fresh and the cake speciality, pateis de belem, which is basically a creme brulee pastry tart, is really quite addictive!
Spotless but generic style Hotel
An extremely clean and spacious hotel a little removed from the heart of Lisbon. We booked a double suite for 2 people and had a huge suite with one bedroom, a living room, kitchenette and bathroom (and 2 televisions!!! one in each room). The suite, typical american style, was spotless and immaculately cleaned every day. The staff at the hotel were, for the most part, extraordinarily gracious and helpful. The hotel is a good 20-25 min walk from the centre of Lisbon. And though it sounds like a reasonable distance, day after day, it adds up. Especially because the area between the hotel and the centre of town, though safe, is not commercially or touristically interesting. Makes for a boring walk. Luckily taxis are quite cheap in lisbon and it won`t cost you more than 4 euros to get to the center of town. If you are looking for a hotel filled with local european charm a stone`s throw from local shops and cafes- look else where. But if you want a spotless, generic, american style hotel a little removed from the action - this is the hotel for you.
Excellent Excellent Excellent !
This is a fabulous place to stay - the staff are very friendly, our room was huge, clean, comfortable and nicely decorated. Well located - only about 4-6 euros taxi ride home from the centre. Hair dryer not great, no useful toiletries (shampoo, conditioner) but other things like sewing kit and shoe horn! Would definitely stay here again.
Couldn't have asked for any more
Just returned from a weeks stay at the Clarion Suites in Lisbon and couldn't have asked for any more. The room (a suite) was large, very clean and well equipped. Although not in the city centre, the hotel is only a 5 or so minute walk from a tube station (Marques de Pombal). The tube takes about 15 minutes to get you right into the centre, with the journey costing about 50 pence. It’s also a pleasant walk from the centre to the hotel and we walked on a number of occasions. Took the TimeOut guide and found that the restaurants and bars recommended were very good. For a special, although a bit more pricey meal - would also recommend Lisboa Nights in Barrio Alto (not in the guide) and Via Graca (fantastic view of the city). There is so much to see and do in the city but would highly recommend a day trip to Sintra (train journey cost £4 return!!).
Loved the Hotel & Location!!!!!
Stayed at the Clarion Suites at the end of sept and had a brill time, the hotel was fab where by the suites were really spacious and good value for money. The location of the hotel was really good as it was right near the Marques de Pombal square and was close by to all the shopping and some eateries. The bairro alto area was recommeded but didnt find it living up to any expectation as its only little streets with small tiny restaurants, the docas area was much more entertaining with luxury restaurants and bars/clubs. Travelling around lisbon is really cheap where cabs from our hotel to any where around the city was no more that €5.00, didnt get a chance to use any public transport as the cabs were convienient but the buses seemed to be really frequent and the trams loooked good too. A taxi from from the airport to the hotel should cost no more that €10.00 so watch out for cabbies that charge more. The weather was really nice apart from the odd shower on one day so we got the chance to use the pool and garden in the hotel which was nice as we came back with a good tan!!! The tourism there is small compared to other european cities so we went on a hop on/off tour bus and saw the cities sites in half a day but then it leaves extra time to concentrate on specific areas one may want to see. All in all the trip was fantastic as we made the trip enjoyable but its a city thats need visiting just the once!!!!
Fantastic hotel
We were in Clarion Suites for one night just before Holy Week (48 euros per night/suite) and when we went into the bedroom, we couldn't believe it what we were seeing: a wonderful suite with kitchen, very big bathroom, two TVs... all very clean and in a very good location, near Marques de Pombal square, only ten minutes walking to Alfama (downtoen) & the port. We used the parking too. Very good staff.
Loved the balcony
I stayed here for two separate nights in August during a recent trip to Lisbon. The second night I had a balcony, just under the penthouse and it was fantastic! Great view of the city and tons of space. The hotel itself is great, with large clean rooms, bathrooms and great amenities. It has internet access and is a good location overall.
Nice place to stay
We booked a 6 night stay from June 4 to 10. The appartment was very spacious and clean. Well equipped and nice size bathroom with enough counter space to put bathroom accessories. We chose this hotel because of the kitchenette facilities: only a cattle was missing. The location 3 blocks away from 2 metro stations (on different lines) is good but wherever you're going, you need to take the metro. The street doesn't have much circulation and is quite calm especially on weekends. We have only positive things to say about the installations. Upon reservation, I mentionned an early arrival around 10am. After spending the night on a plane and suffering from jet lag, we were quite pleased to access our room right away. This was the only time this gentleman working on the day shift at the reception went out of his way for us. Only twice did I dare asking a question and I felt not welcome to renew the experience. The key to our safe was not spontaneously offered to us; I had to request it. I also asked for a map of the city which seemed to bother him. That same person never said "good morning", "have a nice day", or wished a good night nor did he thanked us for our stay when we checked out after spending 468 Euros. He should learn from the night employee and the maids who always smiled at us and said "bom dia" and "boa noitte”.
Excellent value for money
We stayed at Clarion for 8 nights late April / early May and loved it. The size of the suite was more than adequate with a spacious living area, good size bedroom, kitchenette and dining area, as well as a huge bathroom. The staff was extremely helpful, especialy the lady called Fatima at the reception desk! The room was clean and, even though facing the street, very quiet. Swimming pool area was well maintained, and we enjoyed it on a couple of afternoons, in conjunction with light snacks and drinks from the hotel's bar. Although we were warned that it was not quite centrally located, it is only 20 minutes of pleasant walk from Bairro Alto, and 5 minutes from Marques Pombal Sq metro station. The only downfall we found was breakfast. Though it is meant to be served until 11 AM, if you come down at 10:30, most of the food would be gone and no replenishment made. On the other hand, if you come earlier, you'd always have to wait for either bread, or eggs, or fruit, or coffee - there just seems to be a general lack of organization in the kitchen. Thankfully, Lisbon has many interesting choices for breakfast, so this didn't bother us much. As for Clarion, we definitely recommend it.
